To burn down my house?

ChristmasAtHogwarts · 26/04/2022 08:34

I have been getting insect bites for over a month now. I had a patch of about five then a break for 3 weeks and now over the last few days I have got about 15.
they are intensely itchy for about 3/4 days. Swell up huge. Mostly on my feet and legs. So last night I sprayed myself with bug spray on my legs and feet. Woke up this morning to six bites across my back where the fucker has clearly walked across snacking on me.
joking aside the itching and burning is driving me to feel really beside myself. I haven’t slept properly for about 4 nights now because of the itching.
we have checked for bed bugs - DEFINITELY no sign of these
can’t see any sign of fleas!
we live near farmland so insects are common. Weirdly I’m the only one bitten - or reacting enough to be irritated by it
weve just Amazon primed a smoke bomb. If this doesn’t work I have to burn the whole house down right?

The constant urge to scratch, I remember it from when I came back from holiday, one year. Something had bitten me and I had a big lump around the bite..quite worrying for a while. At least you've retained your sense of humour. Your ppst sounds like something out of a horror movie 😁

gamerchick · 26/04/2022 09:15

Just bug bomb the house and if that doesn't work get a dude in.

mooreover · 26/04/2022 09:22

Yep. Burn that motherfucker to the ground.

I am still traumatised from the time my husband and I got home from 5 days in Glastonbury (he talked me into it) and I was so desperate for my bed, and a hot shower, and we unlocked the door to our then flat and I thought I was tripping. Everything was moving. Queue the biggest ant infestation I have ever seen in my life. They were even in my bed.

Sad

I mean I do quite like my house, so if anyone has any suggestions of what I can do prior to committing arson that would be super helpful!!

if I can’t see any marks or anything on the mattress is there anything else I can do? Just ordered bug repellent bracelets too!!

Obviously YANBU. But first, is there any chance it is mosquitos? I have been getting them in the house for a few weeks, and I woke up this morning at dawn to the annoying whine of 2 mosquitos trying to get out a closed window.

They don't bite everyone, and not everyone reacts to their bites.

Apologies for the double post

It could be mosquitos I think, how would I know?

Are you definitely sure it's not bed bugs? They are pretty sneaky bastards!
Do you have tiny black dots on your bed sheets?
Take a look in the mattress seams and behind the head board if you have one....

Looking at mosquito bites YES I think it may be a mosquito!!! I have been left with dark purplish patches from the old bites that have healed and stopped itching which seems to fit. How do I get rid? Apart from burning the house down obviously. I wish I could catch the fucker and make him die a horrible slow death.

There aren't always lots of signs of bed bugs if it's quite early on in an infestation so I wouldn't rule them out - their bites don't affect everyone so you could be lying next to your partner in the same bed and have lots of bites where they might be unaffected. They are intensely itchy and tend to bite in lines or clusters.

SilverHairedCat · 26/04/2022 09:49

I have a plug in mozzie killer - UV lamp thing.

I also wear DEET to bed sometimes when it's prime mozzie season as I scar with every bite....

No need to burn the house down if it's mosquitos - they don't infest the house, they just fly in the windows. So check your room before going to bed (ceiling especially), try a repellent spray etc and see if that resolves the problem.

ChristmasAtHogwarts · 26/04/2022 09:55

Have taken off the mattress, headboard and sheets, there aren’t any marks black or red, not a single one. I have checked and checked again!
forgot to say if it helps these bites leave dark purple marks on me when they’ve healed if that helps anyone figure out?!

OP posts:

Have checked and checked again for bed bugs I can’t see a single red or black mark on the mattress

If it helps the bites that have healed have left dark purple scars?

Use germolene on the bites, it has a local anaesthetic which stops the itch. You can only get the cream these days which does work but the ointment was so much better.

Icebear99 · 26/04/2022 10:57

I react really badly to mosquito bites, they swell and then leave purple scars - also they fly past other people to bite me 🙄Anti histamines and ice packs help, also look in the travel bit in boots or somewhere for the plug-in bug killer, close the door and windows of the room and leave it running for a couple of hours.
