To update about The Family Sex Show

There are active two threads on this in Feminism but I feel I just have to update here for traffic. Although protests appear to have, for now, stopped the theatre production going ahead, new and highly disturbing material has today appeared on their webpage, clearly aimed at children. It (cheerily and breezily) suggests, among other things, that children search for images of masturbating animals on the internet and then draw what they see. I am not going to Google that term, I really don't want that in my history, but first, can you imagine what children will be exposed to if they search that, and second, this is pure and simple grooming of children into being abused. Masturbating animals? What larks! Lets have an arts and crafts session about it! Next steps: Masturbating with Uncle Jim? Why not? Masturbating Uncle Jim? Of course!

I have now made a complaint to CEOP. Others may wish to as well.

@VestofAbsurdity Nah. I've met loads of the type in the arts - they are really not critically thinking people - they simply parrot cultural libtardism. They genuinely think sex can be made harmless if we just keep talking about it and that this is progression. I think some of them genuinely feel like righteous evangelists vs right-wing bigots and dinosaurs.

There are predators who see those useful idiots and use them to their advantage, but the founder is the useful idiot I reckon, not the predator.

They don't know what is right and wrong - the boundaries are blurred for lots of people now, all the kink and bdsm crap. There is no idea of 'sexual morality', it just doesn't exist, neither do the general concepts of what is perverse or deviant, this language is just disappearing. This relentless idea of sexual progression, there are a lot of people in these equality industries having to think up new absurdities to justify keeping their jobs.

DomesticatedZombie · 19/04/2022 20:29

I would suggest that if you base a theatre show on queer theory, this is the inevitable result.

'breaking down boundaries' and 'queering heteronormativity' will produce exactly these results, because that is what those terms mean. The whole point of 'queer theory' is to 'queer' things. Is to shift, question, and subvert boundaries.

With the best will in the world and the best intentions, I don't know that it would be possible to make a sex ed event based on queer theory that would be suitable for children, because we have firm rules and boundaries about what is age appropriate, and that is an idea that goes fundamentally against the whole premise of 'queering'.

I work in the arts, and I agree with you. 'sexual progressiveness' has to keep on removing 'barriers' which were previously known as 'boundaries'.

VeneziaGiulia45 · 19/04/2022 20:33

Portentous words from Mary Whitehouse in 1973, seeing as she's getting so many mentions in this thread.

"Instead of helping the young to learn more mature ways of expressing sexual matters, what is happening now is that adults are putting a seal of respectability on a sort of four letter word syndrome which adolescent boys have always written on lavatory walls."

but if they are okay with doing this to children, something is intrinsically wrong. Unless they were all abused themselves, which seems unlikely.

It’s not lowering children’s boundaries. It’s educating them about their sexuality. Countries with the least sexual education have the most teen pregnancies. Ignorance isn’t always the best option.

How is googling masturbating animals educating about sexuality? Do you think sex ed should be age appropriate, or is hardcore porn suitable for 5 year olds, too?
theDudesmummy · 19/04/2022 20:35

I do feel really sorry for completely normal gay people who fought so long and so hard for their rights, made so many gains, and who have now been hijacked by the true deviants and wide-eyed apologists for deviants.

I think most people understand very well that this isn't anything to do with lesbians or gay men.
theDudesmummy · 19/04/2022 20:37

@Seamar as a professional in the precise field, I assure you that you are wrong. This is not about education.

They’ll be wanting to go into our childrens’ schools next to push their grubby little agenda.

The company that This Egg 'consulted' with to create The Family Sex Show already are in schools. Secondary schools, mind you.
theDudesmummy · 19/04/2022 20:39

@DomesticatedZombie one would hope so but one should not underestimate the continuing existence of homophobia and the ability of bigoted people to hop on a bandwagon.

@DomesticatedZombie

Use the internet to find some examples of other animals that masturbate.

I take that as a direct instruction to google 'animals that masturbate' and I can't see how else it can be taken.

I have searched this exact term.

With google and safe search, the results were many pictures of animals masturbating.

With duckduckgo and no filter, the results were many pictures of illegal acts.

Neither of these internet searches were suitable for five year olds.

For once, this is where the intrusiveness of Alexa and Siri might actually be helpful.

Given that they recognise voices, I'd rather like a 2001 style response.

I'm afraid I'm not going to search for that for you, Dave. I'd need you to be 18 before I'd comply with that instruction.

Companies already are. One of which , School of Sexuality , has a BBC producer as co founder and patron

@Seamar That's simply not true. There was a study on the relationship between sex ed and teenage pregnancies in 2017 by Nottingham University Business School and the University of Sheffield. It found that more sex education is linked to higher rates of teenage pregnancy and that teenage pregnancy rates declined in areas where the government cut spending on sex education and birth control.

Between 2009 and 2014, pregnancy rates fell by 42.6 per cent to their lowest levels since 1969.

Those conducting the study found that sex education likely encourages sexual activity amongst young people who otherwise may have abstained. In their words, "Put simply, birth control will reduce the risk of pregnancy for sex acts which would have occurred anyway, but may increase the risk among teenagers who are induced by easier access to birth control either to start having sex or to have sex more frequently."

theDudesmummy · 19/04/2022 20:43

@DomesticatedZombie thank you for doing that so we don't have to. The result is exactly what I knew it would be.

please can someone post a link to sign then petition?
I genuinely fear for our childrens futures. Its so so depressing.

Seamar · 19/04/2022 20:47

Because masturbation is a natural thing which all children should be engaging in. There’s nothing wrong with it. Animals do it too. You are supposed to understand your own body. This fear of sexuality is why so many women can’t reach orgasm. They are trying to change this for the next generation. Relax.

Catcrisis · 19/04/2022 20:48

The BBC news article on this is atrocious. Completely minimising what the problem is and making out the theatre company have been victimised

Tiddlesthecat · 19/04/2022 20:49

The BBC coverage is shocking! It is not journalism. Just a lazy article that quotes the company almost totally one sidedly. No question about who the School of Sexual Education or whatever is. No examination of their website. No seeking comment from the NSPCC or any other relevant safeguarding body. No challenging of the accusation that it was stopped because of a small amount of extremists...not 40,000 middle of the road parents with pretty average and sensible opinions or concerns.
