To update about The Family Sex Show

There are active two threads on this in Feminism but I feel I just have to update here for traffic. Although protests appear to have, for now, stopped the theatre production going ahead, new and highly disturbing material has today appeared on their webpage, clearly aimed at children. It (cheerily and breezily) suggests, among other things, that children search for images of masturbating animals on the internet and then draw what they see. I am not going to Google that term, I really don't want that in my history, but first, can you imagine what children will be exposed to if they search that, and second, this is pure and simple grooming of children into being abused. Masturbating animals? What larks! Lets have an arts and crafts session about it! Next steps: Masturbating with Uncle Jim? Why not? Masturbating Uncle Jim? Of course!

I have now made a complaint to CEOP. Others may wish to as well.

Because masturbation is a natural thing which all children should be engaging in. There’s nothing wrong with it. Animals do it too. You are supposed to understand your own body. This fear of sexuality is why so many women can’t reach orgasm. They are trying to change this for the next generation. Relax.

It’s not lowering children’s boundaries. It’s educating them about their sexuality. Countries with the least sexual education have the most teen pregnancies. Ignorance isn’t always the best option.

This is wrong and was proved wrong some time ago. In the UK the rates of pregnant teens has been declining for some years, but it boils down to birth control not sex education.

@Seamar you have not got the full picture and do not, with respect, understand what we are actually talking about. I will be willing to bet that your experience of working with or talking to survivors of childhood sexual abuse is non-existent.

Queer ideology is being injected at an ever faster rate into all areas of life, the Police, Church of England (there are various queer vicars in random places in the UK as per Twitter), nurseries, schools, universities, HR departments, breastfeeding support groups, children's extra curricular clubs, politics, it's everywhere now. Funny isn't it that it's trans and queer that have been pushed like this, no other protected group has this level of publicity or capital, not even LGB. LGB is kind of being phased out with the T and the Q.
The group that is planning this inappropriate show probably guessed that everyone's boundaries had been sufficiently subverted and we are all ready for the family sex show .

This is worse than teenage pregnancy, to subject children to inappropriate sexual themes - and conversely leads to more sexualisation and legitimises abuse.

It probably sounds hyperbolic. I do not even want to make excuses for this nonsense. At the same time nudist children's shows and end teaching them about masturbation is happening, people are advocating for 'MAPs' (and their right to watch CSA). This is already happening.

And resisting childhood sexual abuse and grooming for such abuse is most emphatically not a "fear of sexuality". That is a serious category error.

What they should do now is reflect.

Admit that 40,000 concerned people perhaps have a point and aren't creating moral panic.

I suspect a long lockdown and a lot of time in the worst corners of the internet had a lot to do with the 'creativity' on display here.

Doesn't excuse it at all but they do need to seek help. And find new jobs where they have nothing to do with children.

I am going to guess you're not a parent, nor have the slightest familiarity with the curriculum, sex ed, what the term 'age appropriate' means, or basic safeguarding principles.

I didn’t say ‘shoulda’. I said should. I won’t be so immature as to call you weird or say anything mean. I will point out that if you read any book about sexuality you will be informed that masturbation is accepted as a normal part of self-exploration and all children, unless asexual, which is fine, should likely be masturbating throughout childhood.

It’s not just a problem for 5 year olds, I doubt this shit is suitable for any person under 16. It's obscene, manipulative and batshit. Sadly there are many people with some level of authority in academia, especially in the public health sector who have extremely wrapped ideas about children and sex positivity.

If you spent a large part of your working week hearing from people how their childhood sexual abuse, which in a significant number of cases included, or started with, conversations with adults around masturbation, wrecked their lives and their mental health you might not be quite so "relaxed".
