To update about The Family Sex Show

There are active two threads on this in Feminism but I feel I just have to update here for traffic. Although protests appear to have, for now, stopped the theatre production going ahead, new and highly disturbing material has today appeared on their webpage, clearly aimed at children. It (cheerily and breezily) suggests, among other things, that children search for images of masturbating animals on the internet and then draw what they see. I am not going to Google that term, I really don't want that in my history, but first, can you imagine what children will be exposed to if they search that, and second, this is pure and simple grooming of children into being abused. Masturbating animals? What larks! Lets have an arts and crafts session about it! Next steps: Masturbating with Uncle Jim? Why not? Masturbating Uncle Jim? Of course!

I have now made a complaint to CEOP. Others may wish to as well.

@YellowHpok

ThisEgg all seems to be run by a female with a legit theatre career rather than a Jimmy Saville esq character. So confusing. Why wreck your career with this?
The likely options are:

—the fairly offensive "useful idiot" explanation;
—a complete lack of due diligence;
—complete support for the underlying liberation ideology.

There may be more but none is a good outcome unless the person subscribes to the belief that there's no such thing as bad publicity and is hoping to make a name for promoting progressive theatre on the right side of history and in no way resembling every previous attempt to achieve the sexual liberation of children that did not result in their abuse and exploitation over the last 60 years.

agoodrabbit · 19/04/2022 19:32

They're so delusional about their intellect as well - convinced they're benevolent educators and 'freeing' your kids. They always make me want to vom.

This, absolutely. It's very clear how little time they've actually spent with kids they care about.

CarmenThePanda · 19/04/2022 19:33

Very lazy reporting by the BBC:
“ Its creators ThisEgg, who were advised by safeguarding and educational specialists, said they had received "violent and illegal threats" from "a small group of people with extremist views". NOWHERE have ThisEgg given actual evidence of safeguarding advice or who had provided it.

A page in the site that I read yesterday had a section about the vulva which said ‘remember, not all women have vulvas and not everyone who has a vulva is a woman’.

Then a section about the penis which was generally descriptive but had NO equivalent sentence or any reference to ‘not every man has a penis etc.

Shows the one sidedness of the trans issue up.

CarmenThePanda · 19/04/2022 19:34

Did anyone screen shot the glossary?

The website is down now.

I can still get the website, and not just pages I have been on before, it appears to still be up.

This is the first time I've had to say that something boils my piss (and I hate that saying but it's so accurate).

This is clear grooming. Very clear.
I don't think you need to have been groomed as a child to see it.
I've signed that petition.
Other societies manage to have sexual freedoms without grooming children. This is all levels of fucked up.

ScrollingLeaves · 19/04/2022 19:42

Please would you post a link to this website?
I looked earlier because of having read this on the other thread but couldn’t find this page you mention.

YellowHpok · 19/04/2022 19:43

@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus I think you may be right about the wholesale embracing of the ideology. They are very keen to highlight their pronouns, and spell women as womxn

WonderfulYou · 19/04/2022 19:43

It (cheerily and breezily) suggests, among other things, that children search for images of masturbating animals on the internet and then draw what they see.

This is a bit misleading of you OP.

They’ve not said to find pictures of animals masturbating.
They’ve said that it’s very normal as every animal does it (so it’s natural) and to google it.
Then to draw the animal - not draw the animal masturbating.

I think it’s very important to stick only to facts if you want to make a genuine complaint.

Do you have a link to the actual website?
I want to know what age range this is for.

I like how they’re normalising masturbation as for years it’s been something to be ashamed of especially for females.

However this should be aimed at teens and definitely not young children.

Jimmy Saville had a legit career too.
Don’t be blinded by the image.

(I’m not inclined to give anyone the benefit of the doubt anymore. )

This is horrifying, but why are people surprised? I remember sex education we had when I was 11,which involved watching a cartoon of two people having sex. When I was 14 they were handing out flavoured condoms in class and our teacher taught us about oral sex. The only thing that mattered was "consent". As long as we agreed, anything was permissable, whatever our age. The idea of actually abstaining from sex until you were an adult in a stable relationship was never even mentioned. This show is only following the trajectory that schools have been pushing for years. I'm only surprised we didn't reach this level of depravity sooner.

There is an archive link in this thread. The show is supposed to be for "5 and up"Sad Angry

I am sure the team behind this are nice people, I expect they think they're doing a good thing - we've all got critiques of the sex education we received (if any) so I wonder if this sprang from that. No doubt a lot of the content was totally fine and full of positive messages. However I suspect they are young, don't know many kids or parents of young kids, and have made some MASSIVE faux pas - as PP have said, they probably haven't even thought about the implications/possibilities for their material to be used in a negative way. They've then clearly stuck to their guns (i.e. not agreeing to remove the nudity content instead of just cancelling). A really tough lesson to learn for them, it seems like they just haven't thought about the very different implications for "artistic freedom" when it comes to productions specifically aimed at little kids.

BowerOfBramble · 19/04/2022 19:49

...that's not an excuse for the show (which I've not seen) or the website (not got enough eyerolls in the world for that) - just, it would be wrong to assume these people are paedophiles! going a bit far.

This is horrifying, but why are people surprised? I remember sex education when I was in primary school back in 2005 - we had to watch a cartoon of 2 people having sex. By the time I was 14 they were handing out flavoured condoms in class and teaching us about oral sex. The ONLY thing that mattered was consent. As long as we "consented" (which, in my opinion, isn't really possible as a child) anything was permissable.

The idea of actually abstaining from sex until you were an adult in a committed relationship was never even mentioned. This show is merely following the trajectory that schools, the media and the government have been pushing for years. I'm only surprised we didn't reach this level of depravity sooner.

theDudesmummy · 19/04/2022 19:53

It is extremely unlikely that the creator or any of the performers are paedophiles. They have been groomed themselves by those who are really benefitting from this societal grooming. But they have an obligation to think much much harder about what they are doing when child sexaul abuse is at issue.

I understand the point you are making is that it is important to stick to facts. But they are, by saying this, still magnifying and pushing an idea. And I should imagine some dreadful things would be found if this were googled.

A few brave people have googled that term to prove what comes up is sick (and illegal) links to hardcore animal porn videos.

I’m making a freedom of information request to find out exactly how this got funding from the Arts Council. Nobody should be able to wriggle off this hook.

I’ve also emailed:
Nadine Dorries, Sec of State for Digital/Culture/Media/Sport: [email protected]

My local MP who is on the Select Committee for the department of digital/culture/media/sport - not sure of their powers, but their webpage lists their function as ‘It is our responsibility to scrutinise the work of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and its associated public bodies, including the BBC’. A list of committee members can be found here:
committees.parliament.uk/committee/378/digital-culture-media-and-sport-committee/

I will also be adding my own report to CEOP.

@plumrade the group are called the School of Sexuality. They provide rse to secondary schools.
