Wibu? Grating cheese and other unimportant things

Today was a particularly hard day with the kids and dinner sort of got away from us so Dh and I settled on having beans on toast with grated cheese on top.

The beans on toast part is fine and both parties are in agreement - toast, butter, beans(cooked in a pot for at least 5 minutes so most of the bean juice has absorbed).

Person A cuts a piece of cheese from the block and grates this cheese into a bowl and then takes from this bowl and places cheese on top of said beans/toast combo.

Person B grates cheese directly from the block over the top of the plated beans on toast. This makes a mess of cheese round the plate. Some of which is picked up and put on the toast and the rest cleaned up properly as part of later on washing up.

Who is being U? Which cheese grating camp are you in? Are there any silly things like this that your and your partner do differently and both thing yours is the right way?

I do sliced not grated cheese on top. Preferably the cheese slices from the supermarkets. They're the perfect shape and size.

JazzTheDog · 08/04/2022 20:59

You are both being unreasonable for putting butter on the toast...

Perfect order is toast, grated cheese, beans! Wink

Aimee1987 · 08/04/2022 21:00

I am in the put it in a bowl to share but DP grates over the top. I think it's a faffy way of doing it.

Ohwelljusttoday · 08/04/2022 21:01

Neither is wrong.

FuckYouDebbie · 08/04/2022 21:01

You need some Hendos.

Fucking animals.

Floralnomad · 08/04/2022 21:01

I just buy grated cheese as well as a blocks of cheese , life’s too short to grate your own cheese .

StanleyTheCrane · 08/04/2022 21:01

Also, person B is being extremely unreasonable.

FuckYouDebbie · 08/04/2022 21:02

What is this. First no Hendos and now pre grated cheese. Stop getting beans wrong.

TheCanyon · 08/04/2022 21:03

@JazzTheDog no you are absolutely bu, no butter? That's the worst thing I've heard in ages. And @StanleyTheCrane I hope you mean proper sliced cheese not plastic cheese?

@chubbachub person B is a messy shite, person A wins. Well done you Grin

TerrifiedandWorried · 08/04/2022 21:04

How can you miss the plate? Just grate it more carefully and job's a goodun

TheCanyon · 08/04/2022 21:04

But pre grated cheese has an awful coating...

Want a cheese and beans toasty now.

DigitusImpudicus · 08/04/2022 21:04

My DH puts fresh bread in the oven to dry it out warm it up.

Heathen.

Svara · 08/04/2022 21:04

Well you either have to wash cheese from bowl or from plate. Plate is already being used so a bowl is additional washing up.

MangoM · 08/04/2022 21:04

We do it differently and just grate the whole block into an airtight tub for the fridge. Avoids having to grate little bits here and there every time you need a small amount.

hmc39 · 08/04/2022 21:05

This is a grate post.

Ohwelljusttoday · 08/04/2022 21:05

However, I prefer marmite spread first , then melt the cheese. A close second is melted cheese with Worcestershire sauce on top…

BlueSpottedGiraffe · 08/04/2022 21:06

Grate straight on top, cba having something extra to wash up

bluebaul · 08/04/2022 21:06

I am a bit confused as to why either person is BU? Surely you just do things differently Confused

OhRiRi · 08/04/2022 21:07

I couldn't care less if person B grated their cheese with it clenched between their arse cheeks as long I didn't have to clean up after them

StopFeckingFaffing · 08/04/2022 21:08

I would just grate from the block straight on to my dinner.... unless we had guests and I was making a pretence of being more civilised in which case I would grate the cheese into a bowl but probably wouldn't be having beans on toast for dinner in those circumstances Grin

JemimaTiggywinkle · 08/04/2022 21:08

You need to hold the grater closer to the toast so the cheese falls directly onto it, not scattered from a great height (no pun intended).

Twospaniels · 08/04/2022 21:10

And where was the scrambled egg?

Buttered toast, scrambled egg on top, then grated cheese and then baked beans on top of everything.

Food of the Gods

And as for the grating issue, grate straight onto your own meal regardless of mess made

MissStarry · 08/04/2022 21:10

As long as the cheese meets the beans no-one is BU.

pictish · 08/04/2022 21:11

I do both depending what frame of mind I’m in…on top of my shit or slap dash fuck it.
Both methods have their merits.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 08/04/2022 21:11

Most importantly why is this cheese not being melted. The correct approach is thick white toast, butter, beans, cheese grated then under the grill until it bubbles. In terms of grating that depends surely how many people are eating, just me on my own directly on to the bread. Multiple people into a bowl or similar recepticle so can be shared
