Wibu? Grating cheese and other unimportant things

chubbachub · 08/04/2022 20:57

Today was a particularly hard day with the kids and dinner sort of got away from us so Dh and I settled on having beans on toast with grated cheese on top.

The beans on toast part is fine and both parties are in agreement - toast, butter, beans(cooked in a pot for at least 5 minutes so most of the bean juice has absorbed).

Person A cuts a piece of cheese from the block and grates this cheese into a bowl and then takes from this bowl and places cheese on top of said beans/toast combo.

Person B grates cheese directly from the block over the top of the plated beans on toast. This makes a mess of cheese round the plate. Some of which is picked up and put on the toast and the rest cleaned up properly as part of later on washing up.

Who is being U? Which cheese grating camp are you in? Are there any silly things like this that your and your partner do differently and both thing yours is the right way?

Oh always grate straight off the block! Then my daughter comes along and grates from the other side of the block. I need to teach her not to be unreasonable don’t I!

VeryMuchFlaggingMinty · 08/04/2022 22:35

Ya both UR...cheese goes under the beans so it melts from the heat of them on top.

LittleSnakes · 08/04/2022 22:37

You missed out Marmite after the butter. Then beans. Then grated straight from block. Doesn’t matter about cheese spillage, that’s what dishcloths are for.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 08/04/2022 22:39

I'm glad you're person B, you need to LTB, he's clearly a mad head

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 08/04/2022 22:41

You’re both freaking wrong ‘ uns! Full marks for cooking long enough to make what my kids call ‘thick’ beans. But no, just no cheese on beans 🤮

Ijustreallywantacat · 08/04/2022 22:41

MAYO?! I’ve heard it all now. I do -way too much- a fair amount of cheese in a bowl, half goes in the pot with the beans, half goes on top of the beans, grilled if I’m feeling fancy.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2022 22:41

If you grate cheese over hot things it gets a bit steamed and goes off more quickly.

What sort of deviant household do you live in that cheese has any opportunity to go off??

Let me know and I can send the 2 cheese hating Dragon offspring over. I disowned them long ago.

StocksSmellGood · 08/04/2022 22:42

@discodannie

Cheese is disgusting Envy

Toast bread, add butter, top with beans then microwave to warm the beans - so the toast goes soggy with bean juice, add Mayo, done.

Mayo?!

Fucking hell

Mayo?! Surely not!

I've never had cheese go off in this house either. It doesn't get the chance Blush

What are Hendoes?

A party you have before you get married?

Brilliant!

Diplidocus4 · 08/04/2022 22:45

Why has no one mentioned pepper ?
Loads of pepper is essential,
Hendos/ Worcs
And PEPPER !
Cheese , beans and butter - real stuff , no yellow chemicals pretending to melt and be butter .

Pepper can be either black - fresh ground or white !

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 08/04/2022 22:45

Who on earth cooks beans until the sauce almost goes!?

And the best thing about working back in the office means I can go for lunch to the deli in town where I have a jacket with cheese and beans. They take it very seriously and ask what order I would like my cheese and beans on the potato. It’s easy - butter, small bit of cheese, then beans, then serious amount of cheese

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 08/04/2022 22:47

Definitely butter the toast!
TwoSpaniels eggs & beans together is wrong!

Oh toasties are a whole other issue!

Dh thinks a toastie is only a "toastie" if its from a toastie maker, like the Breville you mention.

Myself and the kids, however, are perfectly happy with a toastie made in the frying pan. Dh calls this a "grilled cheese sandwich" and says it is categorically not a toastie. Every time he says it I ask him which part of the USA he is from again and he replies "New Glasgow"

I microwave beans, had no idea i should put in a pan!

Lonecatwithkitten · 08/04/2022 22:53

You are both bu fir allowing beans into your home the vile work of the devil that they are.
Cheese on toast with lee and Petrine is the true way in this situation,

Fizbosshoes · 08/04/2022 22:54

I microwave beans, had no idea i should put in a pan!

So do we, in a mug (one particular mug)

And my ideal method would be toast - butter - marmite - beans - cheese (grated straight from the block)

Synchrony · 08/04/2022 23:00

Assuming using a box grater....

B is clearly unreasonable. It's slow and awkward to use the grater without having the base in contact with a surface and also too messy.

A is also unreasonable. Why would you cut a piece from the block pre-grating? This results in having a sliver of ungratable cheese at the end and unnecessary knife washing.

Correct decision is to grate straight from the block on to a plate so the box grater can stand up properly. Then add cheese from there to the toast!

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 08/04/2022 23:01

Toast, then ketchup, then scrambled eggs, then beans, then cheese. No butter (the way it mixes with bean juice Envy) Grate cheese on to chopping board, then sprinkle = no extra dishes either.

Toast from the toaster straight onto the plate, butter, beans, grate cheese on the top.

No chopping board to wash

@QueenofBrickdon

Straight from block with this then sprinkle.
Yes! This Grin
Sunnytwobridges · 08/04/2022 23:12

I don’t eat beans and toast but I would say person B is BU. However this is something I might do if I was being lazyGrin

RedHelenB · 08/04/2022 23:13

@TerrifiedandWorried

How can you miss the plate? Just grate it more carefully and job's a goodun
This. And definitely need to butter the toast.
Pansypotter123 · 08/04/2022 23:15

Wrong about the butter - toast (tiger loaf), beans and THEN a knob of butter on top (large) with freshly ground black pepper. No cheese 🧀
