Wibu? Grating cheese and other unimportant things

Today was a particularly hard day with the kids and dinner sort of got away from us so Dh and I settled on having beans on toast with grated cheese on top.

The beans on toast part is fine and both parties are in agreement - toast, butter, beans(cooked in a pot for at least 5 minutes so most of the bean juice has absorbed).

Person A cuts a piece of cheese from the block and grates this cheese into a bowl and then takes from this bowl and places cheese on top of said beans/toast combo.

Person B grates cheese directly from the block over the top of the plated beans on toast. This makes a mess of cheese round the plate. Some of which is picked up and put on the toast and the rest cleaned up properly as part of later on washing up.

Who is being U? Which cheese grating camp are you in? Are there any silly things like this that your and your partner do differently and both thing yours is the right way?

Why are you both grating your own cheese? Why did the person grating cheese into a bowl not grate enough for two while the other prepared another part of the meal?

Yes I'm missing the point, back to it, person B is messy and unreasonable.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 08/04/2022 21:12

So long as any mess gets cleared up at the end I really don’t care.

QueenofBrickdon · 08/04/2022 21:14

Straight from block with this then sprinkle.

What are Hendoes?

DigitusImpudicus · 08/04/2022 21:21

@Aworldofmyown

What are Hendoes?
A party you have before you get married?
Octomore · 08/04/2022 21:21

@JazzTheDog

You are both being unreasonable for putting butter on the toast...

Perfect order is toast, grated cheese, beans! Wink

This.

Butter is superfluous, and the cheese melts best if it's below the beans.

RainbowMum11 · 08/04/2022 21:21

Person cutting cheese off and then grating into a bowl is being ridiculous - talk about creating extra washing up!
Also, completely agree with others - def cheese first then beans, and definitely to Henderson's relish too.

AbleCable · 08/04/2022 21:22

I have never put cheese on beans on toast. I was going to say you are both unreasonable for putting cheese on beans on toast, but clearly I know nothing.

Faffandahalf · 08/04/2022 21:23

Nooo if the cheese is underneath the beans can fall off. Cheese on top means it’s all glued together nicely.

What are hendos?????

SomethingVexesThee · 08/04/2022 21:23

Person B is correct. If perhaps a little messy.

RainbowMum11 · 08/04/2022 21:23

I've already had tea, and had a cheese & beans toastie last night for tea but I want another one now!!!

RainbowMum11 · 08/04/2022 21:24

Hendos must mean Henderson's Relish - it's awesome stuff, miles better than Lea & overruns rubbish.

marjayy · 08/04/2022 21:24

B is clearly the husband.

ODFOx · 08/04/2022 21:26

If you grate cheese over hot things it gets a bit steamed and goes off more quickly.

Get one of those graters attached to a bowl /tub that you can seal. I never knew how much we needed one until we had one: perfect for grated cheese for beans, pasta, whatever, and f you grate a bit much you can seal it up for another day.

@MangoM

We do it differently and just grate the whole block into an airtight tub for the fridge. Avoids having to grate little bits here and there every time you need a small amount.
Me too. It makes such a mess, and DD virtually lives on it, so the grater is always in the dishwasher!
chubbachub · 08/04/2022 21:28

I don't know what Hendos is but I am person B! And ofc the thread is lighthearted, goes without saying. No one is actually being unreasonable and yes, everyone does things differently.

Dh did do enough for two normal people I guess but then he wanted more and then I took what was left from the bowl and just grated from the block over my plate.

I agree with the washing up logic - his way is just another bowl to clean. He thinks the opposite and that I am just a messy cheese fiend.

This is a grate idea Grin

Jokes aside, I genuinely may start doing this. Thanks for the idea!

Person A should have grated enough cheese for 2 straight into the saucepan of hot beans.

Noisyprat · 08/04/2022 21:31

I don't why I came to this thread but had to find out what Hendos is so I googled it. I take it that it isn't:

Hendo: an event that involves using your right hand to knock a person the f-out, and then drop an elbow onto their limp body.

but rather Hendersons Table sauce? which looks rather yum and I want to try it now

Anyway back to the op, person B is correct because you grate less fingers doing it that way and can just grate copious amounts of cheese.

Clutterbugsmum · 08/04/2022 21:32

I just grate a whole block in the food processor at a time, so we almost have grated cheese in a box in the fridge.

LndnGrl · 08/04/2022 21:33

Both unreasonable.

Grate the cheese onto the beans but clear up straight away.

Pixiedust1234 · 08/04/2022 21:34

Good grief!! It should be cheese on toast with added beans, NOT beans on toast with a dribbling of cheese shudders

Do a proper Welsh rarebit, then beans. You can thank me later.

onemorerose · 08/04/2022 21:37

Will now be trying cheese before beans. But will probably be putting more cheese on top of beans as well. To answer the original, first person is creating more dishes to clean so they abu.

tempester28 · 08/04/2022 21:37

Neither of you should be grating cheese in this day and age

Notagardener · 08/04/2022 21:41

But why would there be more spillage on the table when grating over a plate than over a bowl?? But yes it shows that if you cut of a piece first you never know how much you need
