If you have a big baby, is it more likely to be born earlier ?

36 weeks.. I know measurements can be off. Baby is 80th centile at the moment with femur length off the charts...and bigger belly, but not off yeh charts.

Is there any way he might want to come earlier if he's big ? I think my bump is at term size now and I'm really really really really really struggling.

No talk of induction I guess, because I'm having an elective section at 39 weeks anyway. If I wasn't, would they induce soon ? I might try pushing him out at this rate, if it makes him come out sooner. Grin

At my wits end !

My bigger baby (8lb 10 ) was a week early but my sister was late and weighed 9 lb 10 so don’t think it means much.

Scarby9 · 05/04/2022 19:12

I was 8lb 10 and three weeks late, back in the days when they let you go three weeks late.

FML. I am so fed up. I can't move ! Constantly out of breath. Feel sick. It's hell !

I thought maybe if they re massive, they run out of space and just want to get out !

Not in my experience. 98th centile baby born 5 days late. Had extra scans so we were expecting a >90th centile. Baby was 10lb

whyrusoangry · 05/04/2022 19:18

12 days overdue and baby was 9lbs 9oz 😅

MrsMcKay1987 · 05/04/2022 19:18

9lbs 3 baby two weeks early!

Sundancerintherain · 05/04/2022 19:19

My just under 9lb er was 5days late.

MrsTimRiggins · 05/04/2022 19:19

I don’t think so really. My boy was 9lb 8oz and was born via caesarean at 39+5 but was showing no signs of exiting off his own back.

My friend had a 9lb 5oz baby who was a week late and a 9lb 1oz baby who was a few days late.

SantaMonicaPier · 05/04/2022 19:19

Mine were both 8lb 13 and were 6 days over. I feel for you, those final weeks can be so tough

mangoallergy · 05/04/2022 19:19

I was 4.1kg and 13 days late. My DD 3.8kg and I had c-section 6 days after due day

TwoBlueFish · 05/04/2022 19:20

I was induced at 38 weeks due to DS’s size. They could see on the scan that he had a big head and shoulders. I ended up with an episiotomy due to his shoulders getting stuck, he was 9.5lbs. This was not in the UK.

CantStandMeow · 05/04/2022 19:20

DD1 was 9lb 1.5 and was induced 2 days early due to complications

DD2 was 10lb 10 and was a 39 week C-section

Neither looked like they wanted to shift before their eviction. I had severe HG both times so was desperate for the end to come!

flower277 · 05/04/2022 19:22

Nope, 10lb 6oz 15 days late, 10lb 8oz 11 days late, 10lb 13.5oz 9 days late. Induced each time.

bigbigbabyboy2022 · 05/04/2022 19:23

Pregnancy is torture ! I think I have a haemorrhoid as well now ! BlushConfusedGrin

My 10lb 4oz DS’s head engaged nice and early. He still had to be induced at 12 days over.

ancientgran · 05/04/2022 19:25

My 10lb baby was 10 days later but it was a much faster labour than his 8 and 9lb siblings.

AntarcticTern · 05/04/2022 19:25

DC1 was relatively big (8lb 13oz) and a week late... sorry OP!

bigbigbabyboy2022 · 05/04/2022 19:26

Every step hurts when I walk ! And I have to take care of my toddler too.

Would it be bad to start doing stuff to move it along ?

Blossomandbee · 05/04/2022 19:27

No sorry, mine were all big and late. Biggest was 10lb, went 10 days overdue. She was measuring way ahead of dates from 28 weeks and was full term sized at a 35 week growth scan.
I struggled too and could hardly walk by the end so I sympathise.

Quail15 · 05/04/2022 19:28

9lbs 12 and 9lbs 3 - both had to be induced a couple of days before due date due to their size but there was no sign that they were on their way naturally.

Boswellocks · 05/04/2022 19:28

DC1 was 10lb, and a week late. DC2 was 10lb and ELCS two weeks early (thank God - I hated being pregnant and unable to move/breathe).

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/04/2022 19:29

My 2 dds were both under 7lbs and were born at 38 weeks so I don't think so

This depends what you have in mind, some things won't be safe at 36 weeks. Nothing wrong in trying some of the old wives tales but nothing worked for me personally.
bigbigbabyboy2022 · 05/04/2022 19:37

@Blossomandbee I was just thinking about trying to walk a bit more.. maybe make my husband happy by finally putting out. Spicy food. Raspberry leaf tea. Bouncing on a ball. Some yoga to move it along. Trying to express some colostrum. That kind of thing.
