If you have a big baby, is it more likely to be born earlier ?

36 weeks.. I know measurements can be off. Baby is 80th centile at the moment with femur length off the charts...and bigger belly, but not off yeh charts.

Is there any way he might want to come earlier if he's big ? I think my bump is at term size now and I'm really really really really really struggling.

No talk of induction I guess, because I'm having an elective section at 39 weeks anyway. If I wasn't, would they induce soon ? I might try pushing him out at this rate, if it makes him come out sooner. Grin

At my wits end !

DC1 10lb 5oz a week early (pre-planned c section), DC2 10 lb 4oz a day late (came in own time with some possible assistance from fresh pineapple and window cleaning - both tips from midwife!)

Deelish75 · 05/04/2022 19:40

My big baby (10lbs) was born on time. My smaller baby (8lbs 9) was two weeks early.

Athena51 · 05/04/2022 19:44

Mine was 10 days late and just over 11lbs when he made an appearance...

Bornsloppy · 05/04/2022 19:44

Both me and my DSis have had all 9lb+ babies - 38 & 39 weeks for me (ELCS for second one but no sign of labour at all) and 41 & 42 weeks for her.

Georgeskitchen · 05/04/2022 19:52

9lb 4oz 3 days overdue.
Sometimes getting "romantic" with DH can get things going, even though it's probably the last thing on earth you want to do 🤣😍🤣😋🤣😋

AHungryCaterpillar · 05/04/2022 19:54

All mine were over due and all were big babies one was 10lbs 4 😣

BulletTrain · 05/04/2022 19:56

Mine ejected himself early at 38 weeks - he was 5lb8oz! They come when they're ready and then you're late or early for everything for at least 5 years.Grin

user1469123980 · 05/04/2022 19:57

Mine were 11lb3 and 10lb11. Both were 10 days late.

bigbigbabyboy2022 · 05/04/2022 19:58

I wonder what determines it then, I guess no one knows ? Seems so variable.

At least I have an actual end date with the planned section.

11lb 11oz baby born 9 days late!
8lb 15oz baby born 7 days late!

Sorry - no rhyme or reason unfortunately- Mother Nature is not THAT maternal….

Maneandfeathers · 05/04/2022 19:59

My 5lb one flew out at 37 weeks.

The 8lb 95th centile one sat there until almost 42 weeks.

I was gutted once I realised I wasn’t going to have another small early one Blush

DoloresOnTheDottedLine · 05/04/2022 20:01

Someone might have said this already but I think it more depends on the size of you. I’m tall (5ft 9inches),and broad and my 9lb 5oz baby was born a week late. Almost identical stats for my 5ft 10inches tall best friend and her 10lb monster babe. But my sister in law (5ft 5inches, petite build) had her 9lb baby 2 weeks early. Basically, if you’ve got a roomy uterus, they will stay the course!!!

This isn’t science by the way! Just very limited and anecdotal experience.

Hang in there champ.

RandomMess · 05/04/2022 20:03

Induced at 42+3 she was 10lb6oz 🙄

weegiemum · 05/04/2022 20:08

I had a 9lb12 baby 4 days early, a 9lb3 at 10 days early. In my 3 rd pregnancy they tested me several times for diabetes as I'd had bog babies. She was induced at 36+6 for other reasons and was already 7lb15.

That does make some sense you know. The women I know who's babies came 'earlier' tended to be smaller.

I'm not as tall as you, but around 5.6-5.7. So just average. My last babe came via section at 39 weeks ( also planned ) with no hint of any signs of labour.

9lb 8oz was one week late and came naturally. 10lb 12oz was an elective section at 39 weeks.

RandomMess · 05/04/2022 20:23

Erm I'm 5' and pre kids size 6 hips.

I just grow very tall babies and naturally have long pregnancies all were induced and all delivered unassisted 🤷🏽‍♀️

Maneandfeathers · 05/04/2022 20:24

@RandomMess I’m also 5ft and a size 6.

I grew a very long and late one Grin

bakewellbride · 05/04/2022 20:24

Both babies around 9 pounds and both born around 41 weeks.

TracyMosby · 05/04/2022 20:26

My 8lb baby was 3 days late.
My 10lb baby was 11 days late.

Sceptre86 · 05/04/2022 20:26

Don't think it means much and growth scans are notorious for being inaccurate. My two bigger babies 8lb 10oz and 9lb 4oz were both born via emergency section at 40 weeks No signs of labour so I would have gone over if left to my own devices.

Sceptre86 · 05/04/2022 20:27

I'm also 5ft 3 so debunk the theory that smaller women have their babies earlier.

MotherofPearl · 05/04/2022 20:29

Of my three DC the heaviest - 9lb4oz - was also the latest at 41 + 3. But I assumed he got big because he was late iykwim. Just staying in there and piling on the ounces until the last moment!

newyeardelurker · 05/04/2022 20:31

10lb 9 baby 14 days late. Late babies run in our family. Big ones don't that bit was a surprise.
