If you have a big baby, is it more likely to be born earlier ?

36 weeks.. I know measurements can be off. Baby is 80th centile at the moment with femur length off the charts...and bigger belly, but not off yeh charts.

Is there any way he might want to come earlier if he's big ? I think my bump is at term size now and I'm really really really really really struggling.

No talk of induction I guess, because I'm having an elective section at 39 weeks anyway. If I wasn't, would they induce soon ? I might try pushing him out at this rate, if it makes him come out sooner. Grin

At my wits end !

@Maneandfeathers LOL first was average and late, then 3 long and late.

Stomach skin is knackered 😭

Honestly we deserve a medal for going through this

Don’t forget that big doesn’t mean mature. At 36 weeks he will be preterm.

ocd6 · 05/04/2022 21:00

My big baby was a week late!! Really easy labour though thankfully.

MamaNeedsTea · 05/04/2022 21:01

9.1LB 5 days late. 👶🏻

Boswellocks · 05/04/2022 21:02

@Sceptre86

I'm also 5ft 3 so debunk the theory that smaller women have their babies earlier.
Yep. I'm 5 foot 1 and 7 stone (10.5 stone when pregnant, despite not eating much) and had massive babies, late.
NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/04/2022 21:14

Some of the big buggers get themselves wedged in so firmly that they can't get out. DD2 did that.

MotherOfDragon20 · 05/04/2022 21:16

9lbs 6oz went into labour exactly on due date. Born 3 days later (yip labour for 3 days) 😵‍💫

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/04/2022 21:23

My 10lb 8oz baby only arrived at 41+5 after I was induced.

TheNinny · 05/04/2022 21:28

DD was massive at 9lb 2 and I was induced on due date because of her size (99%ile I think) and the risk of complications if she got bigger still :o I would’ve probably gone over by a week or so, she was not for moving at all 🤷‍♀️

Chely · 05/04/2022 21:32

Sometimes.

I've had lots of big babies.
Our 2nd was 10lb 12oz born 40+5, 6 days labour. 3rd was 9lb 10oz born 40+2, 2 days labour. 4/5 twins were evicted via elcs at 38, 8lb 5oz & 8lb 11oz (had shown no signs of coming on their own, docs wouldn't let me go longer). 6th was 10lb 15oz born 38+6, cs after over 20hrs labour and got scar rupture due to the size of her. Our 1st was a very average 7lb 7oz at 39+6, induced because of my blood pressure.

balloonsandmoreballoons · 05/04/2022 21:41

9lb5 baby, 6 days late.

Blossomandbee · 05/04/2022 21:42
@Blossomandbee I was just thinking about trying to walk a bit more.. maybe make my husband happy by finally putting out. Spicy food. Raspberry leaf tea. Bouncing on a ball. Some yoga to move it along. Trying to express some colostrum. That kind of thing.
I don't think raspberry leaf tea is recommended before full term but best to check with your midwife.
No harm in gentle exercise or some early nights Wink although nothing shifted my babies!

Pollyforever · 05/04/2022 21:43

My biggest 2 were both 10 days late. Both over 9lbs. I felt like you do now. 1st of those was engaged from 36 weeks - not pleasant!

SecondhandTable · 05/04/2022 21:44

My DC2 was 8 lb 6 so not absolutely massive but decent size. But no, he was quite overdue, about 10 days if I remember correctly. I had an induction booked in for a couple days later.

BookHermitBlack · 05/04/2022 21:46

With Dc1 I was 40 weeks and baby was 9lb8oz, induction was scheduled for 41 weeks due to size but came spontaneously.
When I was pregnant with Dt I was size of full term at 20 weeks, was induced at 37 +4 who had a combined wait of 12lb 6oz. It's amazing what your body can tollerate.

BiscoffAnythingIsTheWayForward · 05/04/2022 21:48

Baby 1 went in to labour 2 days past due date 8lb 5oz/Baby 2 induced at 42 weeks 10lb 7.5oz 😳 he didn’t want to come out 😆 /Baby 3 induced at 42 weeks 9lb 6oz.

So many factors involved aren’t there from mother to baby.

RegardingMary · 05/04/2022 21:49

'Big baby' isn't a valid reason for induction despite the recent push to induce anyone suspected of having one due to the 'big baby trial' where lots of women have been induced for this with very few actually given full informed consent about the fact its a medical trial. The trial has shown that inducing someone for having a big baby is pointless, it changes birthweight by a few ounces ag best and also increases risk of a medicalised birth with a cascade of interventions and poorer maternal outcomes.

Tigger85 · 05/04/2022 21:50

My baby ds is a larger baby, he was born by elective c section at exactly 39 weeks weighing 8lb 15oz, I think he wouldn't have come until atleast his due date if I was going for a natural birth, his older brother was 8lb 6oz and came on his due date.

MuMmaOf3littles · 05/04/2022 21:52

Three children for me weighing 8lb12oz, 9lb2oz and 9lb5oz. They were all late at +10, +9 and +13.

RegardingMary · 05/04/2022 21:55

Posted too soon.

It's bloody torture and these next 3 weeks will feel like they take months to pass. But just relax, be lazy, get comfy on the sofa, watch that boxset you said you would.

You'll be more likely to go into labour naturally (if that's what you want) if you're relaxed.

Although that's easier said than done and at your point I was counting down the hours until eviction date.

I've birthed 4 at home, all over 9lb. The last one over 10lb and 10 days late (the longest 10 days of my life).

89redballoons · 05/04/2022 21:56

I went into spontaneous labour at 39 weeks with DS1. He was only 6lb 4oz at birth (10th centile). My bump was always 2 weeks behind my dates.

My due date with DS2 is tomorrow. Bump has been measuring 2 weeks ahead throughout my pregnancy. Growth scans show DS2 is 67th centile with a 90th centile head. He's sitting pretty Hmm barely even a twinge so far and I'm trying all of the walking/dates/pineapple/ball bouncing stuff. Argh

Chocolatelabradors · 05/04/2022 21:57

Mine were 8lb 2 weeks late and 8lb 6 2 days late so not really sorry.

They are 6ft tall now

Superhanz · 05/04/2022 22:00

@bigbigbabyboy2022

Every step hurts when I walk ! And I have to take care of my toddler too.

Would it be bad to start doing stuff to move it along ?

Being born at 36 weeks is too early, I know its technically the 'safe zone' but this is why they only induce from 39 weeks unless you or the baby are at risk.

I'm only saying this because I was sick with anxiety towards the end of my pregnancy, I just wanted the baby out and begged for an induction at 37 weeks and was told absolutely not, and a long list of reasons why. One was a much higher chance of baby needed assistance with their breathing or spending time in neo natal intensive care.

I know how hard these final weeks are. I don't really think any of the old wives tales work anyway. It won't be long before you have a lovely bundle in your arms!

N0va · 05/04/2022 22:03

DS was 10lb 8 and born at 42 weeks
