To think I could lose ten lbs in a week

And what is the best method to do this please?
I have a special occasion and a special dress. I've just seen horrendous photos of me.
I look matronly in my outfit. I'm normally a 14 , well proportioned but am verging on a size 16 apple.
Hrt had done a number on me and I'm feeling so down and anxious about it.
I want to lose the weight long term and am determined but as a boost to start with, what do you recommend please ?

The best way to lose 10lb in a week is to cut your arm off.

Seriously, there is no healthy, safe or legal way to lose not far off a stone in a week. You could just stop eating but I'd hardly recommend that.

Concentrate on losing weight in the long term in a healthy and sustainable way. Weight doesn't appear overnight, it doesn't disappear overnight either.

5lb of water weight by cutting out carbs, dairy, sugar etc probably easily. Will reduce any bloating.

Not sure on 10lb though

Cantdoitallperfectly · 05/04/2022 09:37

I think if you were to go on an extreme diet for the week most of the weight lost would be water. It might make you feel better for your event though. I am with you on the fluctuating hormones, it makes weight loss more difficult! How about also investing in some good underwear/body stocking thing to wear under your dress?

Chely · 05/04/2022 09:38

Water weight, yes.

Fat, no fucking way. Give your head a shake

Crunchymum · 05/04/2022 09:39

10lbs would only be possible if you were hugely overweight.

Aim for less (5lb may be doable but you'll need to be very strict) and buy some very good shapewear.

SilverHairedCat · 05/04/2022 09:40

Highly unlikely. I'm extremely overweight and the best I've ever managed was 5lbs in a week with Weight Watchers and running 5k every night plus an hour in the gym. I was also in a full time job where I was on my feet 10hrs a shift and spent the week seriously fucking hungry and weighing bloody bananas (although I gather they are less batshit about that these days).

Not going to happen.

bloodymasks · 05/04/2022 09:42

I would be happy even to reduce the awful bloating especially on my face.
Having said that I've had a booze and carb filled weekend and feel and look desperate.

Low carb works for me

Hibye23289 · 05/04/2022 09:42

Catch covid, I've lost 6lbs in 5 days due to being so ill from it. Obviously that is not good advice, maybe get some shaping underwear

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 05/04/2022 09:43

Of course you can't
I would suggest eat low carb and drink loads of water to reduce the bloat and get some good shape underwear

WeeOrcadian · 05/04/2022 09:43

Cut out ALL carbs, you might manage 5/6lb

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 05/04/2022 09:44

Nope. I am very overweight and have been low carving for a couple of months now mixed with intermittent fasting. I’d be surprised if you could shift more than 4-5lb even if you are super strict.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 05/04/2022 09:44

low carbing thanks autocorrect

bloodymasks · 05/04/2022 09:48

What could I expect to lose in nine days if I low carb Ed. I'm 13 10 and 5'7"

OP posts:
edwinbear · 05/04/2022 09:49

That's 35,000 calories. So you'd need to not eat AND use 5,000 calories a day in exercise/movement etc. To give you an idea, when I was training for a cross channel swim, as part of the training, I'd swim for 3hrs at a time. That burnt c. 2,000 calories. I appreciate you feel down on yourself, but it's not realistic.

Lubeyboobyalt · 05/04/2022 09:51

you probably could if very big to start with, go low carb etc - but it would mostly be glycogen from your liver, and won't make much difference to your measurements.

PermanentTemporary · 05/04/2022 09:53

Atkins. The full fat, old school, weigh your lettuce and use keto sticks version. It may well be water weight but I lost 10lb the first week I did it properly.

Read ALL the introduction and DON'T skimp on drinking water. I did it for 7 months at first but can't recommend that.

The other one is the cabbage soup diet they give to heart patients who need to lose shedloads for an operation.

JamesHetfieldspick · 05/04/2022 09:53

I lost 13lbs in one week..having food poisoning! I wouldn't recommend it though.
I am losing weight using Nutracheck. I've lost 15 lbs so far and checking back the 1st week I lost 7lbs. Maybe try that and drink plenty of water and try a bit of exercise.

I'm sorry you're feeling down about your weight at the moment OP, but if you go in with this attitude then you are setting yourself up to fail and you will struggle to maintain good long-term weight loss because you'll be disappointed when you don't meet your goals.

If you try to lose X in Y amount of time (especially if it's an unrealistic amount in an unrealistic timescale) then you will disappoint yourself. Weight loss is not a linear progression and it's not a fast process.

Think of today as your first step on that journey. You're not going to be 10lb lighter in a week but you might be in a month, and it will be just as worth it then as it is now.

MadKittenWoman · 05/04/2022 10:01

Jason Vale’s 7-day Juice Plan can lose you 7 lbs in a week. Or cut out all obvious carbs and drink lots of water.

Crimesean · 05/04/2022 10:04

1lb of fat = 3,500 kcal. Given that you probably use 1,800 per day just living, you would need to either eat nothing at all and do 3 hours of intense exercise, or eat around 600 kcal and do 4 hours of intense exercise.

It's not really do-able, and you would risk damaging your heart.

If you desperately need to lose inches, you could try an inch-loss body wrap the morning of the event?

SAB10 · 05/04/2022 10:14

I've lost over that amount on two separate occasions on the first week of a meal replacement VLCD (Slim n Save). Yeah, it's obviously mostly water weight, but I looked and felt less bloated around my face and stomach.

It's really not a great long term fix, as others have said - both times I ended up cracking after a few weeks and am now losing slowly/steadily/healthily with 'real' food. But for a quick fix it's worth a shot...

BoredZelda · 05/04/2022 10:15

Wouldn’t it be easier and healthier just to get another outfit?

tara66 · 05/04/2022 10:16

Shane Warne was on a special strict diet I think when he died??
