To think I could lose ten lbs in a week

And what is the best method to do this please?
I have a special occasion and a special dress. I've just seen horrendous photos of me.
I look matronly in my outfit. I'm normally a 14 , well proportioned but am verging on a size 16 apple.
Hrt had done a number on me and I'm feeling so down and anxious about it.
I want to lose the weight long term and am determined but as a boost to start with, what do you recommend please ?

If you do a water fast for a week you could probably lose a lot of weight, not sure about 10lbs though and it will be difficult to do, esp if you haven't fasted before. Maybe try only eating one meal a day and see how it goes? You'll lose something. If you're generally healthy, short-term fasting is fine/good for you.

@Hibye23289

Catch covid, I've lost 6lbs in 5 days due to being so ill from it. Obviously that is not good advice, maybe get some shaping underwear
Covid made me absolutely starving hungry. It was so weird - almost like being pregnant again. I looked it up online, and it seems that it does happen that way occasionally, so maybe not the best plan! (I do know you weren't being serious.)
Cherrysoup · 05/04/2022 10:20

I did it, wasn’t well during my first week of Slimming World, was very strict following the diet, but I’d assume it was mostly water. Bit pointless, really, although I went on to continue the weight loss.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 05/04/2022 10:22

and we wonder why eating disorders exist...

Just buy a new dress, cut the booze, drink water, look after yourself.

Em308 · 05/04/2022 10:22

Buy a different dress.

SummerySumner · 05/04/2022 10:23

Fast800.

okayigetit · 05/04/2022 10:24

The healthy amount to lose is around 2 pounds a week I believe. 10 pounds is not far off a stone, you should not lose almost a stone in 1 week!

irishfarmer · 05/04/2022 10:25

No alcohol for the week at all should hopefully help with face bloating if you had been drinking heavily over the weekend.

10 lbs in a week isn't really possible. I've never tried them but the shake diets/ cabbage soup any of those will only be a very short term solution and I'm not sure how energetic you will feel at the end but you'd prob lose a lot of weigh.

I'd drink tonnes of water and keep carbs to a bare min for the week. Maybe take some vitamin B for your skin.

BlackAndPinkNose · 05/04/2022 10:26

I read something about Epsom Salt baths being used by slebs to shift weight for red carpet events, maybe combine that with low carbing and shapewear?

HomeHomeInTheRange · 05/04/2022 10:26

OP, go shopping, buy something that you love and makes you feel great. For your height you are hardly huge!

Then adopt a healthy eating plan, cut out snacks, reduce your portions a bit, avoid obviously high calorie stuff like slabs of cake, up your exercise a bit (brisk walking is great) and aim to lose 1lb a week.

I am the same height as you snd had the same starting weight: it didn’t take long to make a difference, I felt great and it has been easy to stay at my new weight on a normal but healthier diet.

I also started because I saw a horrible photo of myself. But I bet people around you are not thinking the same.

Good luck!

skippy67 · 05/04/2022 10:27

I'd buy a new dress/outfit. Much more fun and will last longer than any weight loss through extreme dieting.

broccolibush · 05/04/2022 10:29

Buy, or rent, a new dress for the occasion. Even if you do lose enough to fit into the dress you have you’ll feel wretched and not enjoy the evening because you’ve been so mean to your body. Doesn’t sound worth it to me.

Crash diets/losing weight quickly can be a fast track into disordered eating or a full blown ED. Having recovered from one in my mid 30s (and now a decade on having to be forever vigilant to bad eating behaviours sneaking back in) I can’t recommend it.

ColdSeptember · 05/04/2022 10:29

@BoredZelda

Wouldn’t it be easier and healthier just to get another outfit?
This, all day long. Just get a new outfit! None of the measures above will do you any good.
Flippanty · 05/04/2022 10:30

Just buy a different outfit OP and start trying to work on your self-esteem and your mental health first and the fitness/nutrition will follow. This is basically a form of self-harm that will actually only result in more weight gain.

Popopopo · 05/04/2022 10:34

No, this isn't possible. I had an eating disorder in my early 20s and would never have managed 10lbs in a week. Get a new outfit and some spanx.

WildfirePonie · 05/04/2022 10:35

Yes, if you catch a really bad stomach bug and have to throw up the entire week/lie in bed not eating because you will throw up. It has to last at least 6 days and you will lose 10lb.

TonyBlairsLover · 05/04/2022 10:36

YABU. Maybe in a month if you really try, plus no cheat days… the work of the devil

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 05/04/2022 10:40

Don't look at the scales. Just have a really clean eating week. Drink lots of water. Try not to eat after 7pm. And buy some Spanx. Also, don't sweat it, people will just be happy to see you.

riotlady · 05/04/2022 10:45

Honestly I would just get a facial, buy a new outfit and put some magic knickers on, you’ll feel much better for it!

Hope90x · 05/04/2022 10:47

@bloodymasks

I would be happy even to reduce the awful bloating especially on my face. Having said that I've had a booze and carb filled weekend and feel and look desperate.
Hi OP, I feel the desperation in your posts. I know how it feels to be utterly replused with yourself ahead of a big event where you feel people will be judging you (even though that is rarely true).

I lost 7lbs in just over 1 week - as other posters have said it was definitely water weight although this helped to massively reduce the bloating around my face, neck, shoulders and tummy.
Granted I wasn't feeling well at the time and didn't have much of an appetite but my diet consisted of fruit for breakfast and lunch (mainly melon or berry bowls from Tesco) and a very small portion of rice with one of: chicken breast/turkey burger/steak/cod fillet with greens for tea.

This is absolutely not sustainable in the long term and for me was only because I had absolutely no appetite. It may help to reduce your bloating for the purpose you have described though.

Boxerbinky · 05/04/2022 10:48

Ironically I'm at an event on Friday and could do with the being 10lbs lighter,, I have been 'blessed' with norovirus the last couple of days so not eaten a thing. 😂 maybe I'll have lost my bloat without trying

cherrypiepie · 05/04/2022 10:49

Try the "James Duncan" diet and calorie count using nutracheck (paid for but free for 7 days)

Stick to it 100% and you should get somewhere near. I did this for ivf weight loss was a similar weight aged 39.

10lb is 10lb whether it's fat or water Grin

Also ate a lot of dried figs when not doing the "James Duncan" diet try both but they are sugary but have an ahem cleansing effect.

Similar to fast 800 also works

nomistake · 05/04/2022 10:49

Meal replacement shakes would be the easiest way to do it

TonyBlairsLover · 05/04/2022 10:55

@nomistake easiest but not the healthiest or recommended

maddening · 05/04/2022 10:55

Slimfast keto? (Not normal slimfast and it is minging) - literally 3 shakes a day and 2.5 litres of water nothing else.
