Why are Pizza Express advertising 'Porn Star Martinis' on every table at their restaurants? AIBU to find this disgusting for a family restaurant? I don't really wish to explain to my 6 year old what it is.

For what it's worth the staff also found it appalling and said they kept complaining to head office about it.

Surely you just say it's a silly name for a drink.

(I do think it's an odd thing to be pushing like that in a family restaurant though)

Lime37 · 31/03/2022 16:51

A pornstar martini is An alcoholic drink. I don’t see the issue

Mummy1608 · 31/03/2022 16:52

Yanbu

SamphiretheStickerist · 31/03/2022 16:52

Yeah Chrissy. Cos porn is so boring and passe, innit?!

FFS!

BrightOrangeOrange · 31/03/2022 16:53

Are they? How strange.

I'm no prude but it's not the conversation you want whilst tucking into your pizza with your young one.

Shakirasma · 31/03/2022 16:53

Well I suppose its not their fault it's called that and it is a pretty standard cocktail . But I dont think they need to advertise it so heavily, a mention on the drinks menu should suffice.

Their marketing department need to decide whether they want to be a cocktail bar or a family restaurant.

pinkprettyroses · 31/03/2022 16:53

It's really not that dramatic. There's probably songs with worse context played on the radio in the car on the way there.

MermaidEyes · 31/03/2022 16:54

It's a cocktail. Tell your 6 year old that. They won't think anything of the name of it at that age.

CupOfCake · 31/03/2022 16:54

Eh, why the biscuit?

It's pretty low, even for Pizza Hut. I'd complain.

''What's a porn star Mum?''

''It's a person who has sex on camera for other people to watch. Now come on eat your food before it gets cold".

EV117 · 31/03/2022 16:56

Yeah I think it’s a bit weird tbh as it’s a family restaurant in the day. I’ve heard them called ‘Passionfruit Martinis’ on holiday before. I don’t think many children would pick up on it or question it though.

girlmom21 · 31/03/2022 16:58

Unless your child has heard the term 'porn star' separately to seeing the advertisement they wouldn't question it.

Do you want it taken off the menu too?

Are they allowed to serve spotted dick?

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 31/03/2022 16:59

I hate the name of pornstar martini and couldn't even bring myselfbto ask for one. The connotations just disgust me to be honest.

I wouldn't want it heavily advertised in a family restaurant. Yanbu OP.

Couldn't care less if anyone thinks I'm a prude or whatever. The media is absolutely saturated with it and I'm sick of it tbh.

ChatterMonkey · 31/03/2022 16:59

Surely you answer the same as if they asked what a cosmopolitan, mojito or daiquiri was, you tell them its a cocktail? If they push further you tell them the ingredients of the cocktail.

A child doesnt have the same frame of reference when reading it so wont question that it has to be something else other than a cocktail.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 31/03/2022 17:00

They probably sell a Sex on the Beach too.

superplumb · 31/03/2022 17:00

Most restaurants I've been to call it a passion fruit martini. Weird to call it a porn star martini in a family restaurant. I'm no prude btw

Gonnagetgoing · 31/03/2022 17:01

Seeing as you can get them in most restaurants these days I can't see the big deal. I mean you can get 'Sex on the Beach' cocktails. Just titter quietly, agree that it's naughty and then move on.

Ha ha, you've never had an a child who asks A LOT of questions?

As I say I'm no prude but my child used to ask me what everything was. Obviously you can get around it and make something up.

Do you really not see the issue? I suggest you have a bit more of a think.

Well not really the same is it?

Dick is a name.

It would be more akin if they were to be serve 'spotted cock', and I wouldn't buy that either.

BrightOrangeOrange · 31/03/2022 17:03

spotted cock

Grin
Mushypeasandchipstogo · 31/03/2022 17:03

YANBU. I’m not clutching my pearls but do think that it isn’t appropriate for a family restaurant.

ramabanana · 31/03/2022 17:04

I'd have thought it would be called a passionfruit martini as well, I see it called that often

Great drink though, might need to visit pizza express again soon
