Porn star martini Pizza Express

Why are Pizza Express advertising 'Porn Star Martinis' on every table at their restaurants? AIBU to find this disgusting for a family restaurant? I don't really wish to explain to my 6 year old what it is.

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 31/03/2022 17:05

Just tell your kid a porn star is someone who's good at chess.
Easy.

Blossomtoes · 31/03/2022 17:06

Better than a Long Slow Comfortable Screw Againt the Wall, OP. Just tell your child it’s a drink, ffs.

Until they join the school chess club...
girlmom21 · 31/03/2022 17:08

@SoupDragon tbf that's more likely than them even caring what a porn star is

ovenchips · 31/03/2022 17:09

I would raise an eyebrow too and don't think it's appropriate in a Pizza Express. Hate the slow (or not) creep of use of sexualised language around children. I've noticed in Turkey that hotels serve Pop Star Martinis, which seems a good solution to what is a very nice drink with a shitty name.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 31/03/2022 17:09

@ramabanana

I'd have thought it would be called a passionfruit martini as well, I see it called that often

Great drink though, might need to visit pizza express again soon

I'll bet its from a carton though.
Gonnagetgoing · 31/03/2022 17:09

@superplumb

Most restaurants I've been to call it a passion fruit martini. Weird to call it a porn star martini in a family restaurant. I'm no prude btw
@superplumb - just seen in at least 5 local restaurants (2 different areas) which are definitely family friendly - all of them state Pornstar Martini on their menus! The only one which doesn't have it is the Italian restaurant.

Guess I should write and be 'disgusted of Acacia Avenue' to the others and get the name taken off! Shock

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 31/03/2022 17:10

Tesco has it in canned and boxed form and calls it Passionfruit Martini but I suppose they just don't fancy complaints. It's not great from the can or box but will do in a pinch!

I'd assume that was the equivalent of a virgin mojito

Op do 'Virgin' cocktails offend you?

BlancheB · 31/03/2022 17:11

I know what you mean OP they could call it a passion fruit martini like some places do. It's not appropriate for a family restaurant.

Normalisation of porn/pontification of society is everywhere. I'm sick of it.

IBelieveInBiology · 31/03/2022 17:12

Urgh, how horrible.
It's not just that it's inappropriate in a family setting and may provoke awkward questions from children (not all of whom are 6 Hmm), and it's not just that it's related to sex - sex is great.
It's the whole vibe of the term "porn star", as if it were something glamorous and aspirational, involving sipping cocktails and a luxury life... rather than a sordid, disgusting exploitation of women; many of whom may have been trafficked or have got into a situation they don't want to be in.

Gonnagetgoing · 31/03/2022 17:13

Actually in Ask and Zizzi they both call it a Passionfruit Martini so all you pearl-clutchers just go there to avoid poisoning your little ones eyes by reading the name of the Pornstar one.

PegasusReturns · 31/03/2022 17:13

I loathe this - it’s unnecessary sexualisation and normalising a grim industry.

I complain in every bar/restaurant that sells them.

PuppyMonkey · 31/03/2022 17:14

I do find it a bit off - I mean is it the ONLY cocktail that’s getting a little advert? Or is it amongst a number of different cocktails being pushed?
Confused

silversequin · 31/03/2022 17:14

@girlmom21

Unless your child has heard the term 'porn star' separately to seeing the advertisement they wouldn't question it.

Do you want it taken off the menu too?

Are they allowed to serve spotted dick?

Confused

My young DC can read and yes they would question what the words meant.

YANBU, it is unacceptable to have advertisements for these on tables in a family restaurant.

Jackiebrambles · 31/03/2022 17:15

@Mushypeasandchipstogo

YANBU. I’m not clutching my pearls but do think that it isn’t appropriate for a family restaurant.
I agree and we go there a lot, I'd definitely have to explain the name to my kids if they saw it advertised on the table.

You are right, they are a family restaurant s could easily call it a Passion Fruit Martini.

I think you might be over thinking this a little.
canary1 · 31/03/2022 17:16

Agree with you completely. Horrible for a family restaurant

RozHuntleysStump · 31/03/2022 17:17

You’re right. It’s inappropriate.

canary1 · 31/03/2022 17:19

Thanks to the poster explaining that Ask / Zizzi advertise passion fruit martini.
And it’s not ‘pearl clutching’ to want to avoid your 6 year old asking what does ‘porn star’ mean.

ramabanana · 31/03/2022 17:19

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

True but I might still taste test to make sure, any excuse for a cocktail and pizza

Benjispruce5 · 31/03/2022 17:20

I hate it too and prefer to call it a passion fruit martini. Especially pizza express is a family restaurant!

Yep, absolutely this.
Fupoffyagrasshole · 31/03/2022 17:23

What’s a pornstar Martini mum?

A drink love

End of conversation 😂😂😂
