Porn star martini Pizza Express

Why are Pizza Express advertising 'Porn Star Martinis' on every table at their restaurants? AIBU to find this disgusting for a family restaurant? I don't really wish to explain to my 6 year old what it is.

@CaveMum

FFS some people are so desperate to be “cool” about everything. “It’s only sex, don’t be such a prude!” Biscuit

I have a 4yo who is learning to read. He loves to read words on signs/menus etc out loud to show off his skills. I do not want him attempting to sound out “Porn Star Martini” phonetically in the middle of a restaurant.

Actually in the context you put it - with them trying to read it out loud - I do get the issue.

I'm a massive prude around sex but not around words that can explained.

Soffit · 31/03/2022 17:37

Nothing surprises me about Pizza Express these days. It is heading in one direction. They were all about the family market before they were bought by new owners. Now it’s a load of overpriced crap and they are not even apologetic about it. I really don’t know if it was bought with the objective of offsetting large profits from elsewhere and eventually winding it down. I don’t think it will be around in ten years. I have so many precious memories of being really young and enjoying the live music at Saturday lunchtime along the Kings Road. The original Soho one used to give me the tingles because it was set up as the passion project of the founder and was a fabulous thing at a time when the next- best- alternative was Pizza Hut. Now, I almost cannot wait to see it go under.

Carriemac · 31/03/2022 17:37

I asked for a ' traffics and abused woman' martini once when DS insisted he wanted one . The kids ( in ther 20s) were mortified but no way would I say 'porn star ' Martini - I'm not a prude but I am a feminist

ssd · 31/03/2022 17:37

But i agree,its not a conversation you want over pizza

Jackiebrambles · 31/03/2022 17:38

@ssd

Am laughing at 'just tell your child its a drink'

Like kids haven't heard of porn or seen it on someone's big brothers phone

Wake up folks

Yeah mine haven't ffs. They are both under 10. And I just wanted them to have dough balls not to have to explain what porn is.
girlmom21 · 31/03/2022 17:38

Explains why Prince Andrew was there...

DockOTheBay · 31/03/2022 17:39

I agree, its not appropriate for a family restaurant. Why not just call it a passionfruit martini?

When I went on a cruise a few years ago, all the cocktails were given "family friendly" names, like Fun on the Beach instead of Sex on the Beach Grin

Blossomtoes · 31/03/2022 17:39

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

I think you might be over thinking this a little.

Would you say the same if it was a negative racially-loaded word? 'Oh, it's just a name' ?

It is true that cocktails are deliberately designed and promoted as glamorous, fashionable, fun-time drinks - their names do give credence to the terms they use for their names.

Hardly comparable but you have heard of Negronis?
the80sweregreat · 31/03/2022 17:39

I understand what you mean though op , it's not the right vibe for a family / chain restaurant to be promoting , but I doubt the marketing people think it's inappropriate to be honest. They just want people to buy overpriced alcoholic drinks.
Maybe they should just call it a ' star cocktail' or something similar instead ? It's not a adult nightclub venue , it's a pizza restaurant!
I know, I'm an old prude.

Men can be porn stars too
Popsicle33 · 31/03/2022 17:39

I think it's a horrible name

PriamFarrl · 31/03/2022 17:39

@IBelieveInBiology

I think you might be over thinking this a little

I think porn is an awful, exploitative industry that preys on vulnerable people and uses women as objects. It can be detrimental to its consumers, too. Why the fuck should the name of such an industry be used to advertise a drink
If that's overthinking, then great, I'm an overthinker.

It's better than being cool with the trafficking and abuse of women and girls.

I’m with you there. For every woman who is doing it willingly there are many who aren’t. If you don’t see the problem then I suggest you start looking at it harder.
Soffit · 31/03/2022 17:39

@girlmom21

Yup. That name checking was the icing on the bloody cake. Remember when royal endorsements were really coveted!
DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 31/03/2022 17:39

Best you not go to iceland soon as you past the freezer with spotted dick in you'll be keeling over

As I said earlier when a previous poster made this comparison, it would only be the same, if it was called 'spotted cock'

Pornstar has sexual connotations attached and it's a fucking disgusting, exploitative industry. Naming a drink a 'pornstar' is just fucking stupid.

Quite Grin
IBelieveInBiology · 31/03/2022 17:40

If you'd actually bothered to read my post properly I said the sex reference wasn't the problem, it was the glamorisation of a grim industry involving the exploitation and trafficking of vulnerable women and girls.
Try reading it again, this time slowly...

ThinWomansBrain · 31/03/2022 17:41

reminds me of a hotel I stayed at years ago - friend asked at the bar for a B52 cocktail, taking advantage of the rare treat of not having to drive home.
Response was "Oh no sir, we don't serve that sort of thing here, we're a family hotel"

Sounds a bit odd - but if you find it offensive just chuck them on the next (empty) table, or hand them back to the wait staff and say that you don't think they're appropriate for the table.

Magicpaintbrush · 31/03/2022 17:41

Like kids haven't heard of porn or seen it on someone's big brothers phone

And??? Even if they have that's okay is it? Just because it happens doesn't mean it should.

the80sweregreat · 31/03/2022 17:43

I loath pizza express and their overpriced food , plus these types of cocktails are just a small expensive drink of sugar !

NurseBernard · 31/03/2022 17:43

@Fupoffyagrasshole

What’s a pornstar Martini mum?

A drink love

End of conversation 😂😂😂

Well yeah, if you have an exceptionally dull-headed kid.
DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 31/03/2022 17:43

Men can be porn stars too

Yes they can, but they're not usually the ones getting choked or raped are they.

tommyhoundmum · 31/03/2022 17:43

They could put out that sort of thing in the evenings if they must.

PinkSyCo · 31/03/2022 17:43

It’s just words. It will wash over kids’ heads as long as the adults with them don’t make an issue of it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

beastlyslumber · 31/03/2022 17:44

YANBU and I'm surprised how many posters seem to think it's cool to normalise pornography to their kids. I do agree though, don't take your kids there. If they want to be a family restaurant they need to be family friendly.

Comedycook · 31/03/2022 17:44

Actually I agree with you op
