"Work stack" - FFS

CovidCanDoOne123 · 30/03/2022 19:57

So in addition to the likes of 'reach out', 'align'; 'ducks in a row', 'going forward' etc etc etc...we now have 'work stack' instead of workload.

Losing the will to live.

Ps no AIBU. The use of 'work stack' is unreasonable.

BTW I love the mug TheVolturi

ZenNudist · 30/03/2022 20:58

Deck is used a lot by m&a types, who are invariably male.

I have never used work stack, although my current stack is high and in danger of toppling.

I think mental load has become overused on mumsnet. It seems to be one of those things that people add to a list to justify what they actually do (along with "life admin")

TheMoth · 30/03/2022 20:59

Reading these with horror.

We tend to get this bollocks in teaching, after the business world tires of them.

I remember being cascaded over, about 20 years ago.

TeenTraumaTrials · 30/03/2022 20:59

@OzziePopPop

I have ducks (real ones, around 20 or so) living in my back garden. I’ve tried all sorts to get them ‘in a row’. Best I can do is in a line, following each other and that involved a handful of their favourite split peas. Off topic maybe but just how does one get their ducks in a row, are mine faulty?

Most of these make me want to bang my head on my desk. Perhaps it’s best I go to bed early and dream for an early retirement.

@wellitoldyouso

"I do not have the mental bandwidth to deal with this" said by my manager.
See my manager just cracks open an energy drink and announces he's going for a smoke That usually means "I cannot deal with you lot any more" Grin He walked in one day at 7.55am and had opened a red bull by 8.03am. I won the bet that day Blush
BitOutOfPractice · 30/03/2022 21:02

@somethingischasingme

My husband started making them up at work and seeing which ones took off. His favourite is 'it's a dinosaurs picnic' which is now used to describe when things are going wrong!
My version of “dinosaur’s picnic” (which I LOVE!) is “Dutch breakfast” to mean a mess. Eg “oo he’s made a complete Dutch breakfast” of that. A mess. A mistake. A wrong choice. So named after the Dutch nation’s mistaken idea that cheese is an acceptable breakfast choice. I have yet to be challenged in it! 😂

FIFO or LIFO?

v. important to know.....

MiladyBerserko · 30/03/2022 21:05

Yes, but now we also have to 'socialise' ideas/concepts.

Totally not using feminist concepts of grooming.

I am sitting here laughing at this thread!

Can I contribute ecosystem - for something which isn't "eco" or anything to do with nature at all.

That’s very old, I learned that about 25 years ago (showing my age) before the days of being a Scrum Master 😜
MiniPumpkin · 30/03/2022 21:09

LOL at this thread. Recently promoted to senior position I’ve been saying the likes of ‘going forward’ and if you can ‘ping me an email/invite’ oh lord 🤣 although I like ‘work stack’ as in my sector that really is a good description as the workloads really are stacked !

Yes rather than managementspeakbollox they are non-work-bollox

godmum56 · 30/03/2022 21:10

@Grilledaubergines

Oh how I want to go back 20 years to a time with none of this bollocks.
no the bollocks was just different
yellowsuninthesky · 30/03/2022 21:10

And I refuse to "ping" anyone an email. I bet I have said it though (mutters at self darkly)

chimichangaz · 30/03/2022 21:10

I saw a meme some years ago which describe FIFO as Fit In or Fuck Off.

Or did you all know that one anyway?.......

MasterBeth · 30/03/2022 21:11

@SpiderinaWingMirror

Deck. Isn't it just a PP presentation? When did it become a deck? And why? And why the fuck is everything super instead of very? "I've been super busy prepping the slide deck" Huh?
A “slide deck” is nothing new. My dad used to bore us with our holiday photos in a slide deck in the 1970s before PowerPoint, before PCs.
WindyKnickers · 30/03/2022 21:11

@ChicCroissant I used to looove DTDD. Was it really 30 years ago! Might try and find a few episodes to see how well it's aged.

Waawo · 30/03/2022 21:11

@QuinkWashable It’s been a while since I learned, but in my mind a stack is LIFO by definition - something FIFO is a queue surely?

Benjispruce5 · 30/03/2022 21:11

@Grilledaubergines 20 years ago there was plenty. DH called it wank word bingo. I remember ‘blue sky thinking’ Grin

yellowsuninthesky · 30/03/2022 21:11

And yes, there was nonsense 20 years ago. That was about when people started saying the "tech space" (or any space) when they meant sector.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/03/2022 21:11

“Thought experiment” comes from theoretical physics, and has been in use for decades. It basically means to think through a problem.

Shortpoet · 30/03/2022 21:12

A scrum isn’t a meeting, it’s a framework for project delivery. It might look like a meeting (or a series of meetings) though!

"Reach out" still gives me the rage, even though it's become so commonplace now. I will never not be irritated by it, no matter how many times I hear it. "Can you reach out to Helen from HR and..." No!!! Why?? I will happily call her, or I will email her, or I will walk across the corridor and have a chat with her, but unless she's dangling from a fucking window ledge or something why would I need to "reach out"?? Ugh.
