Neighbours walking on our drive and lawn

Lochnessgiraffe · 28/03/2022 13:08

Our neighbours keep walking over our lawn and drive. Our neighbours to the left have stopped doing this once we spoke to them but currently our neighbours to the right keep doing this. We've been having problems with them as they are having building work done and have had to stop their builders parking on our drive.
We don't have a car so they've previously asked to park on our drive but we've said no. They are now constantly walking over our lawn. Our living room over looks the lawn so we see it constantly it's driving us nuts.
We've asked them to stop. What can we do about this? We're actually trying to move due to the neighbours.

You need an elephant trap.

Elodie9 · 28/03/2022 19:15

Haven't read through the full thread but what about criss crossing your lawn with thread tied around plant sticks or similar. Tell them it is to keep the birds off while the new grass seed takes. You had to put new grass seed down as some cheeky people have been walking across your lawn!

ComDummings · 28/03/2022 19:24

Get loads of large fake spiders and absolutely cover your lawn in them

DdraigGoch · 28/03/2022 19:26

Is there anything in the covenants that says that you can't build a moat pond?

JakeyRolling · 29/03/2022 06:57

Get an army of gnomes and line them up Chinese Terracotta Army-style for the entirety of the lawn and have them all facing down the annoying neighbour.

MRex · 29/03/2022 08:18

I had another idea; I got DS some biodegradable fake snow that was both quite slippy and invisible for about a week. Cheap and possibly effective. If nothing else they'll be confused and weirded out by the globs.

ExtraOnion · 29/03/2022 08:19

If this is only going to be a temporary problem, as they are parking next door due to building work, why not just let it go.
Then again, I would have let them temporarily park on my drive, whilst the work was done (if I didn’t have a car)

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/03/2022 11:55

Play the long game by taking a lesson from Mr Twitt. Dig a very deep channel (at night) and put 6-foot fence panels in, with only the top 18 inches above ground, in the full knowledge that they'll just skip over it. Every week, go out at night again and fill in an inch of the channel, so that the above-ground fence appears 19 inches tall, then 20 etc.

Eventually, there will be there - clear as day - a very much unvaultable 6-foot fence, but they will have it firmly fixed in their minds that 'it's just that little thing we ignore and hop over'. It will make their heads explode, as they're blue-lighted to the hospital with 'suspected testicle injuries' and/or bonked knees and noses.

Once they're discharged, they'll assume you're a malevolent witch using some kind of terrifying black magic to have your vengeance on them and they won't come anywhere near your property ever again.

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

And then you would also have a handy six foot deep hole. Just for reasons.

@RandomBasic

I can see that I am but an amateur plotter here!!

All the worms, ants, moles etc will always need good quality organic soil-enhancers to enrich their habitat, though....!

For some reason I held off the giggles until "bonked knees and noses". I'm in a quiet theatre cafe. People are discussing important theatre stuff. I'm Muttley laughing and failing to disguise the fact behind a flat white.

My Mother in Law made that mistake.

Building work carried on for ages and the neighbours wouldn't move their cars for family or other visitors. Then it got to the point where they felt entitled to use her drive for ever after as overflow parking. And, as they were a 5 car household, they felt permanently entitled to that overflow parking.

Give some people an inch, especially when they've already demonstrated that your consent is just a social fiction, and you've concreted in their entitlement.

Lochnessgiraffe · 29/03/2022 16:17

They are building a 2 story extension and are just doing the foundations. This will be going on for months

Surely the only answer is lots and lots of multi coloured glitter - with some Vaseline fir good measure. Your lawn will look super colourful and sparkly - and they will be getting it out of their carpets and clothes for months.( won’t work unless you can avoid the grass of course).

Crystalgirl90 · 29/03/2022 18:05

Put up a little sign that says "KEEP OFF THE GRASS!!!!" 🤣

cherish123 · 29/03/2022 18:27

YANBU
Options: fence, bush, pots, speak to them, move.

Lochnessgiraffe · 29/03/2022 18:32

We have spoken to them and are planning on moving

Bottle of wine e & large water pistols so you soak them every time. Cheeky feckers

AlwaysLatte · 29/03/2022 18:50

Good grief, what on earth did you say to them?

Islandgirl68 · 29/03/2022 18:50

We live in a similar layout and we all have fenses/walls or hedges. Don't see why you can't?

Ddot · 29/03/2022 19:00

Manure the lawn

Ddot · 29/03/2022 19:05

Tickle machine

NannaKaren · 29/03/2022 19:05

Gosh they would wind me up too - hate people parking across my drive, etc (“won’t be long” - I want to vandalise their cars)…anyway difficult to understand why people do this - why should you get a sprinkler?! I’d ask them again - s p e a k. V e r y s l o w l y!!!!

Jeannie88 · 29/03/2022 19:07

'Please do walk on the lawn' sign then if it continues...
Sprinklers and 'you were warned arsehole' sign? X

Ddot · 29/03/2022 19:08

Sorry that wasn't meant for this thread
