Neighbours walking on our drive and lawn

Lochnessgiraffe · 28/03/2022 13:08

Our neighbours keep walking over our lawn and drive. Our neighbours to the left have stopped doing this once we spoke to them but currently our neighbours to the right keep doing this. We've been having problems with them as they are having building work done and have had to stop their builders parking on our drive.
We don't have a car so they've previously asked to park on our drive but we've said no. They are now constantly walking over our lawn. Our living room over looks the lawn so we see it constantly it's driving us nuts.
We've asked them to stop. What can we do about this? We're actually trying to move due to the neighbours.

We had this. Neighbours kids used to run right outside our living room windows to access the street. Put a fence up.

Why? It would be no skin off your nose. This is obviously pay back.

Confused

It is abnormal to ask to use other people's property in teh way the neighbour did.

spacehardware · 28/03/2022 17:52

I cannot believe 7% of respondents think it is unreasonable to object to people strolling across your lawn

UniversalAunt · 28/03/2022 17:55

You are between a rock & a hard place - you want to sell & will need to keep up the kerb appeal of your house.

Some people are just unreasonable gits up for a ready grievance. Are they still pissed that you will not grant them permission to ‘borrow’ your drive?

I’d find it annoying for the neighbours to walk across my lawn/drive passing my front window, they are crossing your boundaries & on all sorts of levels this is a wind up.

The cat deterrents are a good idea as they cannot be seen so do not affect the appearance of your house. Would it work better to move the pressure sensors & water jets around so that no predictable path can be made - mix it up to keep them guessing. If you placed some quality pot plants planted up with simple plants, then you are enhancing your property, not a direct challenge to them.

Failing that/ after the house has sold, get yourself an old jalopy & park it on your drive positioned so that they cannot cut across.

The thing is not to cut your nose off to spite your face. Keep whatever you do just on the right side of reasonable. If things escalate & any formal complaint is made, this may turn up in the solicitor searches to scupper the house sale.

Like the idea of motion activated sprinklers 😁😁

Jacopo · 28/03/2022 18:06

Dig up the grass and create a substantial rockery with plenty of big slippery boulders.

Jongy · 28/03/2022 18:07

Land mines filled with paint.

I like the glitter idea.

Is it? It’s perfectly normal round here. We’re neighbours, we accommodate one another.

Lunificent · 28/03/2022 18:11

A lorry load of green glitter spread liberally over the lawn. Also, invite the local cats in to poo all over it.

amusedbush · 28/03/2022 18:13

Dig a big hole and cover it with leaves. That always tricked Wile E. Coyote.

daisychain01 · 28/03/2022 18:27

Why do they even need to walk on your grass, where are they going from/to? It isn't clear from your diagram what's going on. Do you have a bigger triangle (aka Trivial Pursuits wedgy) of grass than them? The last question is probably irrelevant, but I'm curious nosy

cabbageking · 28/03/2022 18:28

A few pots, garden bench or obstacles to form a barrier?

You can also purchase cheap plastic fencing as you are reseeding the lawn.

FrenchBulldogsareFab · 28/03/2022 18:29

Those hanging lights with a coat of anti climb paint on the wires should work.

Giant motion activated Big Mouth Billy Bass.

Or one of those dancing puppet air things that car showrooms have.

Lollypop701 · 28/03/2022 18:41

Could you get a sprinkler system like the fountains of Versailles

Love this, or just stand in garden with water squirter . It’s how to deal with pests… or motion sensor gun shot sounds, or something that’s shouts intruder alert?

lightisnotwhite · 28/03/2022 18:42

How much of the garden are they walking over Op? A little bit by the road is a bit different to walking right past your window.

Not letting letting one-off builder park short term when you don’t even have a car sounds pretty unneighbourly.

Thatswhyimacat · 28/03/2022 18:45

Have you considered owning angry swans.

hennaoj · 28/03/2022 18:45

Throw a load of lego, UK 3 pin plugs and thorns all over the lawn. Put up a sign saying its an Art installation.

TheRealistBub · 28/03/2022 18:50

A few garden canes and some string should do the trick. Walking on a driveway would not bother me but lawn is a big no no

MuggleMadness · 28/03/2022 18:54

@Lochnessgiraffe

If we get motion sensored sprinkler they would get wet everytime they cross our lawn!
Yep!!

Perfect isn't it!!

stuntbubbles · 28/03/2022 18:54

Daily flashmob on their lawn until they stop. Are you allowed beehives?

toomanytwinkies · 28/03/2022 19:01

@Lochnessgiraffe

blossomtoes why did we say no? Just because we don't have a car doesn't give them the right to park on our drive! We have visitors and delivery drivers who do
I agree, take it from someone who knows, you don’t let people take an inch because then they take a mile, and then it’s really hard to get that mile down to the agreed inch. IYSWIM 🤣
Jux · 28/03/2022 19:05

@Thatswhyimacat

Have you considered owning angry swans.
This. If you don't have a pond for them they'll be even angrier. Even though you can't put up fences, I'm sure you could dig a pond so long as it was contained within the boundary. Leave a foot or so around it so the swans can get out, chase people, and hiss and peck and break people's legs.
