If you have a mantlepiece what do you have on it?

I'm looking for ideas here because I have no imagination whatsoever when it comes to decorating my home!

I have quite a minimalist lounge as I'm not over keen on ornaments/knick knacks really and I hate dusting but I have a plain, bare mantlepiece and I'm looking for ideas for what to put on it?

I'm thinking of a few candles but what do you all have on yours? Any ideas appreciated and photos would be a bonus Grin

Art on the wall above the mantel, then plants on it. At the moment it’s a peace lily and a pothos on one, and two different sorts of ZZ plant on the other.

In the front room - A few pieces of Moorcroft that I inherited and a B&W photo of DC in a vintage silver Art Nouveau frame.
In the dining room - lots of family photos and bits of junk that we've accumulated from holidays.

Old clock, pair of iron candlesticks, invitations, pair of cloisonné vases, stuffed woodpecker and plant on one;
Old clock, pair of brass candlesticks, pair of green glass vases, pair of brass bowls, small bust of Bach, stuffed kingfisher under dome, cat skull under dome, stuffed falcon, photographs, small green glass handkerchief vase, tiny painted pot, odd stones on another (large) one.

Pair of silver candlesticks
Three Victorian cut glass boxes with silver lids
Two Victorian glass perfume bottles

@Cocolapew

I change mine depending on the season BlushGrin At the moment I only have lights because I have a 10 week puppy who likes to pull them and I didn't want anything breaking.
@Cocolapew I love this. Can I ask where you got the lights from?

@Imherenowandthen

Plants and fairy lights
Same! 😆

Mine is like this, though not this one - this is Pinterest.

We have a lovely 1920's clock that was my mums; some back and white photos that mean something and four candles (hahha).
Fairly minimal but still annoying to move things and dust!

Oh, I occasionally drape little lights around it too. We do use the fireplace for actual fires though so have to adapt as well!

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 11/03/2022 09:52

I’ve got a pair of vintage brass candle sticks (one on each side) and a vase of fresh flowers in the middle.

MrsBungle · 11/03/2022 09:52

Here’s mine. I usually have a mantle clock on it too but I smashed it Hmm

Perpetual calendar, weather display (wooden set), family picture and birthday cards at the moment. Often something seasonal too but the daffs were past it yesterday.

Victorian House, 1872, mantlepieces in nearly every room won't bore you with all eight but in the lounge a Victorian chiming clock, a photo of my beautiful boy RIP and a small comic plaster figure of Bob Marley
Shock don't ask!

BobHadBitchTits · 11/03/2022 10:23

I change mine frequently. This is it currently. I can't decide so I've gone with nothing at all.

Firelighters, matches, the TV remote, a small stack of Christmas cards that have been overlooked as kindling, a Christmas bauble that has lost its hanging thread, a couple of pencils lightly chewed by the puppy, a tacky china ornament I'll probably bring to the charity shop when I eventually get my arse in gear to go to the charity shop and a couple of bits of kids' toys that were on the rug by the fire when I was last hoovering.

Look at Glass & Wick for wax melt burners, they have beautiful hand thrown ceramic burners, and these look lovely on a mantlepiece next to candles & Reed diffusers (they also have a beautiful range of these too). They have an offer code at the moment for £5 off your first order using this code: friend5
I have so many of their products and they are stunning, best wax melts I’ve ever tried and they have fab eco credentials as a business too! 🌳♻️💚

SexyLittleNosferatu · 11/03/2022 10:42

Fairylights, a bonsai tree, a mason jar with fairylights in it and the false lashes I ripped off on Saturday night and still haven't bothered to clean/put away.

JoeyB76 · 11/03/2022 10:50

Here’s the link to offer! 🥰

They are cluster lights from B&M @MerlinsButler

extractorfactor · 11/03/2022 11:09

Family Photos (mainly of dc and ddog) in an array of antique frames.

Thank you for this and the link!

I'll definitely have a look through.

Candles and a couple of photos plus usually a reed diffuser if I’ve got one.

longtompot · 11/03/2022 11:17

Mines quite full, thought not as full as usual. I have a pair of tall brass candlesticks, three plants, some tea light holders, a cat bronze ornament, a little blue soapstone elephant, dhs birthday cards, a felted cat a friend made of my ginger cat who passed away and a clock. Oh, and a huge mirror with a pair of wall candle holders either side, similar to attic24 Lucy's ones she has in her house. I usually have fairy lights on it as well and a slate with little treasures I've found when I'm out and about on it, little shells & interesting pebbles etc

Darbishire27 · 11/03/2022 11:26

A mantlepiece clock, a couple of old figurines, a small bronze of a horse’s head, cards and invitations. Just realised I’ve turned into my mother.
