Another energy thread I'm afraid!

Anyone who is with Octopus, have you had an email confirming what your new prices/standing charges etc will be yet?

Nope, not yet. I'm already trying to cut my usage though.

TooManyPJs · 09/03/2022 12:59

Just received it but they had the info on their website when I looked yesterday. I'll find the link...

roses2 · 09/03/2022 13:00

I got my email this morning. A 50% increase on unit rates effective 2nd April.

I'm an ex-Avro customer.

Ohbuggeritsme · 09/03/2022 13:01

@TooManyPJs thank you!
I keep checking emails but nothing yet - didn't think to actually check their website! X

Yes, around £520 per month.

Ohbuggeritsme · 09/03/2022 13:01

@ExtraCreamy same!

Have to admit I got it and didn't read it. Trying to make teens use less wattage is like sweeping snow while it is still snowing.
Have noticed dh has removed a few light bulbs though!!

Is this for all customers or just those on a variable tariff?

dementedpixie · 09/03/2022 13:07

Just affects those on the variable tariff. Fixed tariffs continue until their end date

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2022 13:08

Nope,not yet.

thegcatsmother · 09/03/2022 13:12

I suppose the electricity standing charge has almost doubled as everyone has electricity, but not everyone has mains gas.

lunar1 · 09/03/2022 13:13

I've got another 18 months on my fixed rate with them. Terrified to think what it will be when I come out of that deal!

Singlebutmarried · 09/03/2022 13:15

Got mine opted for a 12m fix at 23% above the cap for elec and 28% above for gas.

If the rates go up as much as expected in October I’ll make the money back Oct 22-Apr 23

TooManyPJs · 09/03/2022 13:16

No monthly costs in email but I've calculated that our energy cost will be about £250 per month 😩 We we're paying about £120 about a year ago! In October if predicted further 50% rise happens this will be about £370!

TooManyPJs · 09/03/2022 13:17

The actual unit cost and standing charge depends on what area you live in.
Singlebutmarried · 09/03/2022 13:18

Forgot to say there’s also no exit fee so if the prices all come tumbling down I can switch with no charges.

TiddleTaddleTat · 09/03/2022 13:19

I got the email but nothing specific on what my increase will be. Worried, tbh.

dementedpixie · 09/03/2022 13:20

There's a link on the email to click on with your particular prices

OneGoodTurn · 09/03/2022 13:20

We got moved to Octopus last year when our firm went bust.

We’re currently paying £80 a month and they’ve advised that they’re increasing that to £105. Less of an increase than I was expecting.

disneylover367 · 09/03/2022 13:21

Im on a variable tariff and dont have a direct debit. If I look at the bottom of my account page it has my new rates per kwh and standing charge. Also the yearly amount if I decide to set up DD.

reqding · 09/03/2022 13:21

@roses2

I'm the same type of customer as you.

I don't know what they rates were or what they now are or will be. Do we have any control over this anyway? I am variable rate so presume I can either fix with Octopus or move elsewhere or stick with Octopus on the current variable.

any views?

@TooManyPJs do you mind explaining this? I thought the whole point was the unit rate and standing charge was capped at a rate set by Ofgem. Clearly I'm wrong (!) but how do you find the cap for your area?
