AIBU to think about moving to Liverpool

Hello wise Mumsnetters.
I live in London and am thinking of moving to Liverpool. I can work from anywhere and feel like I need a change. I have a cousin and a uni friend who live up there. The only thing I'm not sure about is the areas. I've been looking at Toxteth, Old Swan, Waverly and Sefton Park. Are there any other nice or up-and-coming area that I should consider?
Thanks in advance all!

Sefton Park is nice. What's your budget?

SauceGirl · 07/03/2022 15:13

150 (thousand 😂). Quite happy to get a doer upper.

Sefton Park is nice. I love Lark Lane too.

SauceGirl · 07/03/2022 15:15

Ooh Lark Lane (jumps on to RightMove)

South Liverpool is nicer than north ( though there are good and bad areas in each).

BrioNotBiro · 07/03/2022 15:19

Does it have to be Liverpool itself? There are lots of nice places 'over the water' on the Wirral.

Yea I had a look at Bootle but discarded it. I was pretty hot on Toxteth until I hear about the terrible shooting of that young girl...

I’ve just moved out of Old Swan, not far.

I live in what is deemed the shittier part of Liverpool, but I love it here.

Buzzer3555 · 07/03/2022 15:29

Crosby is lovely

Ponoka7 · 07/03/2022 15:30

Absolutely not Bootle or Litherland. No to Norris Green, Dovecote, Page Moss, Wavertree, Belle Vale. I'd go to Prescot with your budget, it's just up the road. Are you looking for a house? What interests you?
Areas that are nice, Aigburth and Childwall, then there's areas that are ok. Do you need parking?

SauceGirl · 07/03/2022 15:31

@Buzzer3555 it's also pretty pricey 😂
@ChiefWiggumsBoy you mean Old Swan is a bit shitty? As in dangerous?

OP posts:
SauceGirl · 07/03/2022 15:33

@Ponoka7 How come you don't like Waverley?

OP posts:
Ponoka7 · 07/03/2022 15:34

Old swan isn't dangerous. You get some anti social behaviour, but any violence, stabbings, shootings (there hasn't been any for a long time) are targeted. It's central to a lot of stuff and has good shopping.

Flexitarian · 07/03/2022 15:36

Have a look at the L17 postcode

SauceGirl · 07/03/2022 15:38

Wow guys thanks for all the responses, really appreciate it.

Wavertree is rough. There's been times recently when the police has had to be on the buses to stop the school gang fights. There's low level criminal behaviour, cars being broken into, damaged etc. How many bedrooms do you need?

Ponoka7 · 07/03/2022 15:39

What's your cousin saying?

SauceGirl · 07/03/2022 15:40

@Ponoka7 two or three ideally

OP posts:
SausageFox · 07/03/2022 15:41

South Liverpool is nicest. I'm from Allerton and that's great. Parts of Wavertree are good, I'd avoid Lark Lane area these days tbh - it's okay but on the border of not so okay.

That said, I'm selling up and leaving Liverpool. Lived here all my life but I don't think it's the great city everyone makes it out to be. Town is horrendous as soon as it gets dark.

SauceGirl · 07/03/2022 15:43

@Ponoka7 she thinks I am inthe right areas to but she's only been there a year or so. She's a southerner like me 😂

Dancingwithtearsinmyeyes · 07/03/2022 15:44

Not all of Wavertree is rough. The nearer town you go, the rougher it is. The bits by Penny Lane/Church Rd and Wavertree Garden suburb are OK.

RedKite96 · 07/03/2022 15:46

No such place as 'Waverley'. Try Stockbridge Village.

Evoll671 · 07/03/2022 15:47

I live v near Sefton Park/Lark lane and love it but I think you might struggle to get a house for your budget, might be a flat more likely.
I grew up in North Liverpool and much prefer this end of the city, but as a po said there are nice and rough parts in both north and south Liverpol.
Happy hunting!

Canny Farm? Oh come now. OP wouldn't last a minute!
TerribleZebra · 07/03/2022 15:49

Waterloo and Crosby are lovely but might be out of your price range. I have family in Litherland and the bit they are in is fine.
