DH routinely reuses stamps. His excitement when an envelope arrives and the stamp isn't marked is a wonder to behold.

Franking is the enemy.

What cheeky things do you do to save the pennies?

@monroeagogo

I've also been known to add extra rolls or cakes at the self checkout scale. Quite often, actually.

I'm like a big time thief. Grin

If you’re at a supermarket that films you at the self service tolls, the security guards at the front are watching live. It’s only a matter of time before you caught. I found this out after forgetting to pay for my carrier bag in Asda Blush he marched me back to pay for it!

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches

When your cut tulips do that dramatic thing where they keel over as though in extreme distress, pop some coppers in the vase and within 24 hrs your tulips will be fully upright again and will last another week.

Or just put coppers in the vase on the first day.

This tip never works for me.
**@Bitofachinwag* Thank you for calling it "the swimming baths"* confused as to what else you would say instead?
Most people these days say "the swimming pool" or "the leisure centre". I like " the swimming baths" :)

Proudboomer · 05/03/2022 21:39

After Christmas when the shops are selling off the Christmas design napkins for 10p a pack I buy a couple of boxes full. This year I managed to get enough from Wilko that the should last the year and cost less than £3.
I also buy the reduced snowmen kitchen roll and loo roll. I don’t care if I am wiping my arse on snowmen at Easter as if their is a saving to be had then I want it.

As an aside, some of these are actually really good tips on waste reduction!

balzamico · 05/03/2022 21:42

I have a slow puncture that means I need to put air in my tyre every 6 weeks or so.
Several times when I've had to wait for the previous person to finish and drive away I've used the end of their time rather than have to put my one £1 in - so satisfying!!

I have a single hole punch and every year I cut out the front of the Christmas cards that we've received and make into what then becomes next year's gift tags.

Bigbiggles · 05/03/2022 21:44

When I was an impoverished student I used to make my own tampons - a loop of thread sewn through a cotton wool ball... Not great!

ShaneTwane · 05/03/2022 21:45

This thread reminds me of that old film look who's talking, where John Travolta's character scams long distance calls from companies pretending to be a messenger who's got lost. Grin

1p and 2p are not made of copper anymore and haven’t been since 1992. They are made of plated steel. I have a few old copper pennies I keep to put around my hostas to keep the slugs off. But the slugs will crawl right over the plated coins.
StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 05/03/2022 21:46

I'm sorry, @BridgesofMadisonfan. I have to say that it always works for me. Maybe it's one of those 'unless you believe in it, it won't come true' things Wink

yoyobaby · 05/03/2022 21:47

@Fivemoreminutes1

When I’m going out shopping or with the fam on a day trip, I take an empty thermos mug with a pre-measured amount of instant coffee. When I need that caffeine hit, I just ask a nearby cafe to fill it with hot water, which they normally do obligingly. I also take a tea bag and do the same later on in the day.
I used to do this too😂 tbf I don't drink coffee but on the way to work I'd either go to Pret or Cafe Nero (whichever I fancied) and would ask for boiling hot water. They'd always give it in a normal cup and I'd take my teabag out of my pocket and pop it in to enjoy a nice peppermint tea:)

Why pay £2 something everyday for peppermint tea when I have the teabags at home lol

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 05/03/2022 21:47

Well whatever's on the current 'coppers' does the trick, @Proudboomer. I tested it only last week.

ButtercupOfFlorin · 05/03/2022 21:47

@LadyPropane I meant attractive personality wise. And it’s an ugly personal who is mean and reuses stamps or gets a cafe to fill their hot water to save 0.4p on boiling the kettle a few times a year

MarianosOnHisWay · 05/03/2022 21:47

I buy my kids Christmas, Easter and Halloween themed clothes (not loads, just a few T-shirts/a costume) in the next size up after the relevant celebration when the stuff is heavily reduced then put it away for the following year.

GeneLovesJezebel · 05/03/2022 21:47

I also use unfranked stamps again.

VelvetChairGirl · 05/03/2022 21:47

I reuse tea bags, you can get 2 cups out of one bag.

checking the ticket machines, phone booths etc for spare change.

I wash the face masks in the bath with me once a week.

my door mat is free newspapers, change em every week or two.

One of the most Blue Peter things that I've ever read that is simultaneously one of the least likely creations to ever turn up on Blue Peter.
yoyobaby · 05/03/2022 21:48

I found this out after forgetting to pay for my carrier bag in Asda he marched me back to pay for it!

The day this happens to me I'd genuinely laugh. I never pay for a 15p/20p bag and really can't imagine someone taking me back to a self checkout just to scan it and pay for it

Walkingalot · 05/03/2022 21:48

@Proudboomer - I don’t care if I am wiping my arse on snowmen at Easter - you've just earned an 'I spat out my wine' comment.

earsup · 05/03/2022 21:48

we do lots of camping so collect sugar, salt, pepper and ketchup from mc donalds etc...not huge handfulls but enough to last all summer !!
