DH routinely reuses stamps. His excitement when an envelope arrives and the stamp isn't marked is a wonder to behold.

Franking is the enemy.

What cheeky things do you do to save the pennies?

@monroeagogo

I've also been known to add extra rolls or cakes at the self checkout scale. Quite often, actually.

I'm like a big time thief. Grin

You are a thief.

😳 I can't get worked up over reusing the odd stamp, especially as it used to be the done thing.

But stealing pastries is another level. It's just theft. Nothing "cheeky" about it. It's just unethical and speaks volumes about your moral compass.

Are you selfish in other ways too?

You DH is going to have a tough time with this in the coming weeks - new stamps will have a bar/QR code and will be validated with this rather than a frank - Royal Mail entering the modern world.

I think about as wild as I've got is I buy 2 coffees every day and take 4 sugars instead of three, I'm stockpiling sugar 1 teaspoon at a time

Kite22 · 05/03/2022 21:12

Imagine being not only dishonest enough to do this, but then bragging about it with a big smile like it's all such a joke. The cost of this is passed on in the base price of the items you contemptible disgrace. Meaning we all pay more.

Not sure why I'm bothering to explain this, there's literally no point arguing with dickheads like the OP.

I can't believe you are confusing stealing with "cheeky ways to save money"

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/03/2022 21:12

@TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY i water down washing up liquid and fabric conditioner. they are so thick to start with so i make 1 in to 2 why go to that hassle when they are both mixed with water? You just use half as much.

ParalysisByAnalysis · 05/03/2022 21:13

I once saw someone caught for that. They do use CCTV. Can you imagine the embarrassment? The woman I saw tried to argue that she’d miscounted but she was still taken into the back. Not worth it

This is my absolute fear with the self scanner. I would never intentionally not scan anything but I’m always worried when I have to have a “quality check” that they’ll find something I’ve forgotten to scan.

Exacerbated when my four year old insists on doing all the scanning for me 😥😥

ParalysisByAnalysis · 05/03/2022 21:13

I mean the handheld scanner that you take round the shop. Not the self service tills.

I use the water collected in my condenser dryer to water my houseplants. I mix dryer fluff and the dregs of candles/tealights into fire lighters.

I don't nick out and call it cheeky.

Bitofachinwag · 05/03/2022 21:15

@Kite22

When I was young I used to check the ‘change’ flap on public telephones in case someone has left a few coins in there. That was quite lucrative.

Oh yes. The thrill of finding a 50p in the door of a locker at the swimming baths Grin

Thank you for calling it "the swimming baths" Grin
ImFree2doasiwant · 05/03/2022 21:16

@Georgyporky I had my heating switched off today, it was hideous, even with the fire lit. We did go to the library this afternoon though, the car was warm on the way and so was the library!

ParalysisByAnalysis · 05/03/2022 21:16

Finding a wee pound in the trolley is quite nice. The trolley boys must make a few pounds from that

ZoBo123 · 05/03/2022 21:17

Used to work in a supermarket and we had customers steal loads from self scan tills. We called the police on one person who weighed expensive items as cheap ones, joints of meat as tomatoes. I think it was about £100 worth of stuff for £3 or £4. The police didn't charge for shoplifting, they charged for fraud.

CurryLover56 · 05/03/2022 21:18

I always pick up a load of black pepper sachets in McDonald’s. We were at the services once & DH came back with about 70 of them!

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/03/2022 21:19

@Bitofachinwag Thank you for calling it "the swimming baths" confused as to what else you would say instead?

Sparklingbrook · 05/03/2022 21:19

@SickAndTiredAgain

Why don't you add the water with the coffee? It's a thermos, it keeps things hot.

To save the money on boiling the water at home I presume. She’s not just not buying coffee (apart from the instant coffee), she’s not heating the water either.

Blimey. That's quite extreme. How much is the actual saving there? Confused

That is theft not being cheeky
LadyPropane · 05/03/2022 21:25

Well, yeah, obviously stealing stuff is cheaper than paying for it. That's not exactly a revelation

Susu49 · 05/03/2022 21:26

I don't know about 'cheeky' tricks but a big one for me is not saving my card details to Amazon.

I found I was spending a small fortune monthly as there was such a disassociation between clicking the buy button and spending money.

I use my library much more and also have far less stuff.

ShaneTwane · 05/03/2022 21:26

Not cheeky but I use reusable sanitary pads which over the last 5 or 6 years have saved me a ton. I also add a bit of water at the end of liquid soap to get the last little bit out.

Satsumaeater · 05/03/2022 21:26

Even better don't use fabric conditioner at all. Full of nasty chemicals, bad for you, and bad for the environment!

Not sure how you can nick pastries at the self-service tills anyway, the whole point of the scales is that you have to have the right weight items. Unless you use different tills where they don't weigh them.

Bibbitybobbityboo86 · 05/03/2022 21:26

I use the work printer- was using a lot of ink back in the home schooling days

I also sometimes regift unwanted gifts

Zingy123 · 05/03/2022 21:27

If you reuse stamps then the recipient will have to pay the surcharge. The machines pick up the phosphorus in the stamps. They can tell if they have already been used.

EveningOverRooftops · 05/03/2022 21:27

@TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY

i water down washing up liquid and fabric conditioner. they are so thick to start with so i make 1 in to 2

i use a eco egg for laundry but with the above i keep a empty container and pour half from he new one then add boiling water and shake, ive been doing this for years and it doesn't make a difference

for both babies(in 2004.2010) i used washable nappies and made my own baby wipes, they were washable cloths that got thrown in with the nappies.
i only use solid shampoos, conditioners and bubble bars and organic natural soap on my face and a solid moisturizer bar.

they last so much longer and there is no plastic to get rid of.

if i had periods(severe PCOS)i would be using reusable washable pads

i do reuse candle wax in to melts.
when they cant be burnt no longer and there is loads left on the side or bottom i dig it out to put in my electric melt.

i always cook from fresh and homemade so no takeaways containers to throw away.
I dont drink coffee, tea or alcohol either ,so no throwaway cups ,teabags or those little pods
no alcohol cans or bottles but i kind of counter act that as i do like coke or pepsi in a can

can soups(we only eat tomato) i make go further by adding a tin of milk so it makes up to 2 or 3 cans.no ones ever complained

The spent wax can be used to make firefighters too.

My friend gets my spent wax melts and she turns them into firefighters for her fire

I get eggs, some firefighters and other stuff back
