I recently found out a distant relative (who is now dead) got married when she was just 18 and her DH was also 18. This was a very long time ago and I know times were different but when I look at my DS who is 17 and although he’s a lovely lad the idea of him getting married next year seems beyond ridiculous. So I wondered does anyone know anyone who got married at a very young age (18/19/20) recently as in since 2010. How did it work out? Did they stay together? How did they manage finances ect?

I was 19 when I got married in 2014. 3 DCs in the next few years.
Separated in October of last year.

A cousin of mine did at 20 and 22. Divorced within two years. The bride just realised she wasn’t ready, wanted a more interesting life, and hadn’t been mature enough to know what she wanted at 20.

I got married at 18 in 1992, we had our son in 1995 and are still happily married, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary in September.
If anything our lives are happier, more loving now.
Astonishing to most of my family and all my friends, who all said it wouldn't last 5 minutes especially as my husband is 9 years olde4 than me Grin

I worked with a guy in Australia who got married at about 26, I think his wife was about 22 so not as young as you asked. But I was that age at the time and thought it was shocking! They are still together and from what I can see on FB seem happy, although and I'm sorry to say I don't think I'd be too shocked if he had cheated the odd time or two. Plenty of Aussies (in rural areas) seemed to get married between 18-23. This would have been around 2012.

Both my older DC got married 3 years ago at 19 (to partners of the same age), both couples are very happy and both recently became parents.

Hellocatshome · 02/03/2022 16:47

I was 24 when I got married in 2010 and everyone seemed to think that was too young. Still together.

Weird, isn't it? How is 24 'too young'? You're a fully grown adult who's been about in the world for over five years.

Married at 20 in 2007
He was 31
Divorced in 2020.
Ultimately we grew apart.

It’s the having kids not getting married that’s when it’s a big deal!

I knew someone who got married aged 18, divorced 18 months later (was high school boyfriend). Then grew up, redid a levels and went to uni. Then found and married someone else aged 29 and is getting divorced again aged 32. I’m buying her a drink this weekend!

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 02/03/2022 16:57

Married aged 21 in the 90s. Still happily together!

SnackSizeRaisin · 02/03/2022 16:57

I know a couple who got married at 21 in 2004. Still very happy, 4 children. They are fundamentalist Christians. I know others who got married early 20s and are also religious (no sex before marriage types). Some are now divorced. Many have professional careers, or at least the man does

melodypondisasuperhero · 02/03/2022 16:58

I was 19 when I got married, in 2008 so slightly outside of your time frame. We’d already been together for 4 years at that point though. Still together now.

Starcrossed2 · 02/03/2022 16:58

I married at 22 in 2012, still hanging in there.

AdoptedBumpkin · 02/03/2022 16:58

The youngest I can think of was a couple of 21 yr olds who were fresh from university. They are still together 12 years later.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 02/03/2022 16:58

Best friend married at 22 and divorced at 29

Felt too young at the time

Strawberriesinsummer · 02/03/2022 16:59

I knew a few Christians who married just after university, so 21/22. This was 2002.

PutinsMicropenis · 02/03/2022 16:59

Someone I went to school with got married at age 19 - could have been 18, early 2000s. They're still happily married with 2 gorgeous daughters.

I got married at 27 and people told us it was young (in 2011), DH was only 25. Still very happily married over 10 years on now, despite some MASSIVE ups and downs with our children.

tinyt137 · 02/03/2022 16:59

Met at 17/18 Married at 22/23 still happily married over a decade on.

AdoptedBumpkin · 02/03/2022 17:00

Also, come to think of it I knew of someone who got engaged when only just 18. Not sure when they married or if they are still together. I think the fiancee was a bit older.

dangerrabbit · 02/03/2022 17:02

My best friend from school married at 20, she is still married 20 years later.

DistrictCommissioner · 02/03/2022 17:04

Not your time frame, but I was pregnant at 23 & married the father at 26. Found that people often assumed we were religious when they learnt we had 3 kids & married under 30.

duvetdayforeveryone · 02/03/2022 17:08

I was 22 when I got married in 2010 and everyone seemed to think that was too young. Still together.

JennieTheZebra · 02/03/2022 17:09

I married at 20 in 2010, my DH was 19. He’s the love of my life and we’re very happy. We know lots of people who got married at similar ages who are all still together. Christians though, so not massively unusual in those circles.

UndertheCedartree · 02/03/2022 17:13

I married at 21 in 2001. We were together for about 18 years. I don't regret it atall. We separated due to life circumstances. We are still good friends.

Worriedmama32 · 02/03/2022 17:14

Me and DH got married at 21 and will have been together 12 years this summer (3 DCs). We got plenty of comments about being too young but we are still very happy together
