Waitrose

Just tried the 'new offers' on Waitrose. You have download the offers at home but then scan to scan a QR code at the til point and click into a coupon for every offer. Surely they could put the offers directly into your Waitrose Card like M&S Sparks Card does?
Given John Lewis is on a downward track - surely making shopping difficult at Waitrose won't help keep customers. Anybody else found this as unnecessarily complicated?

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought it all sounded a faff!

TBH I rarely use Waitrose now. They stock one or two items I can't get elsewhere, but that just means I bulk buy them every three months or so. After I worked out I'd have to use a smartphone to operate this system, I rolled my eyes and binned it.

I am sick to the back teeth of every business I interact with pushing their bloody app on me, and I am making the conscious choice to direct my money towards the companies who don't do this. The adage “If you're not paying for the product, then you are the product” springs to mind, so I am choosing to not give my personal data to any of these fuckers any more.

I'm still struggling to get my head round this...is it really the case that I have to go to the WEBSITE to choose the offers and the app to use them?? What numpty thought of that?

Omg yes that’s my experience but I’m convinced I’m doing it wrong - but it always directs me out to the browser to view my offers and then ADD them in. It seems so silly by design to st I had to conclude it was me being a dope!

@saraclara

I'm on my mid sixties and very quick too call it ageism. But it's not ageist to point or that their older costumers will be disproportionately disadvantaged. My peers are pretty tech savvy, but a few years older makes quite a difference. By 70 I reckon that the percentage of those with a smartphone and able to navigate the maze that is the route to the coupons will decrease significantly.
I doubt that very much. It’s likely to be the opposite. Those people who are tech savvy in their mid 60s are highly likely to remain so throughout their 70s and beyond. The proportion of tech savvy mid 60s will grow as time goes on.

Of course, they will @Blossomtoes and of course, the proportion will grow. But we're talking about offers that are available NOW. And at this point in time, many (not all) people in their 70s missed out on digital technology, didn't really become comfortable with it, and see no point in a smartphone. So they will be disproportionately disadvantaged by a voucher scheme that relies on the use of a smartphone in store.

StScholastica · 05/03/2022 19:06

I'm a tech savvy professional but Waitrose have lost me over this. I can't stand to miss out on an offer but I work FT and haven't got time for this shit.

merrymouse · 05/03/2022 19:16

Let’s face it, if you have to log onto a website to download vouchers onto an app, they aren’t going to attract tech savvy young people either because it’s all too clunky.

ajandjjmum · 07/03/2022 17:47

@Hairbrush123 Yes - sadly where Waitrose is concerned! Can't be bothered to go to Stourbridge, so just get the odd delivery.

We did have an email yesterday saying that Waitrose have delivery slots available this week in our area. Funny that!

I thought I was going mad - but it does appear to be the case. Won't be using the app or website or Waitrose (we only went there for the free paper anyway).

The more people who complain the better and direct them to the comments on here

So I've got a combined John Lewis / My Waitrose card on the JL app and haven't a clue how to get the Waitrose offers.

Noisyprat · 08/03/2022 15:53

I had a reply to my email, not answering my complaint of course but someone has spent 3 seconds selecting some paragraphs and thrown them together, the one at the end, imo, is very patronising:

We do understand change is difficult, especially when our loyalty program has stayed the same for so long, but we are listening to everyone's feedback and we are working on ways we can reach out to more people.

They don't need to 'reach out' they need to make it work properly!

jamandmarmaladeoncrumpets · 08/03/2022 16:04

i am so pleased i no longer shop in that place.

you could email Sharon White directly but I would vote with my feet.

I had this too. I went to the trouble of loading up the Waitrose app, expecting to find the offers preloaded. Nope
eunace · 08/03/2022 16:23

😱😱😱. That really is patronising @Noisyprat Not the bloody menopause, is it?

dgirluk · 08/03/2022 16:32

Interesting thread - I’ve shopped at Waitrose as my local supermarket for years since it opened. I have a loyalty card but havent any comms at all about vouchers, discounts, or anything else ! So I had no idea.

Just found my vouchers in the account section of the website and if I pick 2, it’s about £1 off my shopping. Big whoop.

Have no given up with Waitrose and travelling further to Sainsburys, just because Waitrose shelves are usually half empty, and they’ve stopped stocking a lot of the stuff we buy.

Sainsburys are equally confusing though - I now seem to have 3-4 logins (despite them moving to a single account allegedly) and disappearing vouchers. But at least the food is on the shelves!

pepsirolla · 08/03/2022 16:41

Absolute pain. There is no WiFi or data available in store, thanks O2, so unless I remember to load the coupon and screen shot it at home. I have to stand in the carpark desperately waving my phone around for a signal whilst leaving an already overworked shop assistant to mind my shopping at the till! Head office really need to sort this, otherwise I'm voting with my feetHmm

fussychica · 08/03/2022 17:17

Just to let you know there are hundreds of comments on FB Overheard in Waitrose page, My Waitrose page and Waitrose.com page. A quick scan was enough to tell me we pretty much all think it's totally rubbish so they should have got the message. Whether they choose to do anything about it is another thing.

BooseysMom · 08/03/2022 17:43

After I worked out I'd have to use a smartphone to operate this system, I rolled my eyes and binned it.

Exactly the same here. I have had a smartphone for well over 10 years but hate the way that all my loyalty cards (eg. Costa) are being replaced with apps. The signal is so poor in our local waitrose that I can't be arsed with all the faff of downloading 2 vouchers for 50p each. They obviously got rid of the postal vouchers to save them money but they are risking losing many loyal customers. The postal vouchers were actually very useful as it would save you about £6 on a weekly shop.

When Covid struck our local store closed the brilliant cafe and instead used the space for click and collect orders. The same time they stopped the free coffees and I still remained loyal. I have shopped in Waitrose for years because I like the quality of the food and their ethics and am willing to pay more for this but this latest con might send me elsewhere.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/03/2022 17:49

I was a big fan of Waitrose until straight after the EU referendum when some bald headed 60 something arse on the tills commented on my purchase of the New European and said ‘what are you buying that shit for’ — I reported him to their head office and went right off the shop!! Much prefer a combo of M&S , a bit of Lidl plus some Sainsbury’s bits and bobs.

fussychica · 09/03/2022 17:37

Didn't think the new improved offering could get any more crap but this week I haven't qualified for any vouchers as apparently I haven't used my card enough. That's because I haven't done my weekly shop yet!
Think they've totally lost the plot. I'm off and took my business to M&S and Aldi today instead.

Merrymouse · 09/03/2022 17:46

So they want to track purchases through a reward card, but a new casual shopper who doesn’t do a big shop gets no benefit from using the reward card?

It’s not clear why they have bothered with this new scheme.

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/03/2022 17:56

Couldn't get mine to work so gave up.

BooseysMom · 11/03/2022 08:20

Same here. Downloaded the app and the vouchers don't appear! Will have to complain I suppose
