Face Masks

AIBU to think nearly everyone has stopped wearing them?

At the weekend we visited a local tourist attráction, went swimming, went to the pub, went for a meal out, and went shopping. During this I saw no more than a handful of people wearing a mask?

Quite a few have said they've noticed it's the older ones not wearing the masks anymore. I find the opposite. Every day on the bus it's the older ones who always wear the mask, the younger ones not so much at all.

I wouldn't want to wear mask if it was uncomfortable, itchy and smelly either, but they shouldn't be any of those things. Did you not experiment a bit to try and find one that did work for you?
No, I've got better things to do than mess about and spend money on face masks. We don't need to wear them now anyway.

Anonymous48 · 03/03/2022 16:28

@Juno22

I think it's also important that those who choose to wear masks should not judge those who don't. If there is no requirement to do so then people don't have to wear them if they don't want to. Calling people thick isn't helpful.

We've reached a time when it's about personal choice. It's none of my business what others do and I don't care whether people wear masks or not. I'll wear mine when I have to or when I think I should, or not at all.

Oh I'll absolutely judge people who don't wear masks in a situation where it would be advised to do so. Whether it's a legal requirement or not is irrelevant.

"I've got better things to do than mess about and spend money on face masks."

As I suspected, you're a selfish person who doesn't care about others in their community.

Wow are we still throwing selfish about!

I was just quoting back to the other posters who was quoting how many people she knew who had nearly died from it. You know give it some perspective. Not everyone has the same experience. It was not crass or insensitive. It's the truth. But carry on being offended.

Look.
We can argue about the legality all day long.
Cases over the last 7 days, UK, are averaging almost 60,000. It's simple - wear a mask and protect people less well than you, or shout that it's legal to go without now, & sod everyone else.

Ok. But there was literally no one but the security guard (who I went no where near) wearing a mask in Morrisons just. Not one single other person or staff member. When I go the pub, not a single person. So I think I'll just carry on as I am. I wear one if I go to hospital or Dr appointments but other than that? When no one else bothers? No

No I'm not, I just don't see the point of buying dozens of different types of mask to carry out an experiment to find out which is the most comfortable one. And why should I now that it's not compulsory to wear them? If you have the time & resources, why don't you do a comparison of different mask types?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 03/03/2022 16:50

@AllThingsServeTheBeam

Three of my friends died and one is now registered as disabled. So iI'll be offended as long as I want to, thanks.

Not everyone has the same experience.

Obviously not.

You're absolutely right!

I'm not going to stop wearing a mask in places like supermarkets when public health authorities still advise their use, because A) it's no skin off my back and makes no difference to me if I wear one, and B) it might help protect someone else and I do care about the wellbeing of strangers, unlike some people on this thread.

Ok but I still stand by the fact that I don't know anyone who has even had it bad. Do you want me to lie? I am sorry for your loss and no where have I said that I didn't believe people had it badly or died. Just that I personally didn't know anyone. So carry on being offended. But I've said nothing offensive.

Dozens? Come on now. I tried two different kinds before I found one that is comfortable and that I can easily wear for hours with no issues. And that was back in April 2020. It's a bit late now!

Whether they are compulsory is a whole different issue. Where I live they haven't been compulsory since about June 2020, but people still wore them because it's the right thing to do.

In your opinion it's the right thing to do, but other people have different opinions. And since they are no longer compulsory, I won't be wearing one anymore.

Anonymous48 · 03/03/2022 17:39

@Tzimi

Not just my opinion. The WHO and the CDC in the US where I live.

Besides, I was talking about earlier in the pandemic.

HarrietteNightingale · 03/03/2022 17:47

We can argue about the legality all day long.

There's no need to. It is completely legal in England not to wear a mask. Even TFL have backed off on enforcing it as a condition of carriage. You can't control what judgements other people make now that this "we must be seen to do something" temporary emergency measure has been dropped, so I suggest you and others come to terms with that, and carry on doing what you feel is best.

So why discuss it now? That was then, this is now!

ilovesooty · 03/03/2022 19:05

Yes this is now. And if I want to wear a mask in certain settings I'm not going to worry about the sensitivities of non mask wearers who simply can't quietly exercise their own choice.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 03/03/2022 19:17

we had a twat at the tills this lunchtime refusing to remove her mask for i.d purposes....kicked off in front of her kid when we refused to serve her. Quite funny watching it all unfold. total paranoi. felt sorry for the girls with her though

#notallnonmaskwearers 😉
ilovesooty · 03/03/2022 19:26

Oh no. Not all non mask wearers. Just the ones who carry on about being upset at seeing masks.

Anonymous48 · 03/03/2022 20:06

Because I was wondering why, after all this time, you find your face mask to be uncomfortable and smelly!
@Tzimi

Well, presumably because I've worn it a lot? I also find that the fibres unravel and constantly irritate my nose, so it's no wonder I want to throw the bloody things away!

Parker231 · 04/03/2022 15:26

The fibres don’t unravel if you replace the mask regularly.
Why did the British have so many problems with wearing a mask? Many other countries who worn masks for longer and without exemptions had lower case numbers and deaths
