AIBU to think nearly everyone has stopped wearing them?

At the weekend we visited a local tourist attráction, went swimming, went to the pub, went for a meal out, and went shopping. During this I saw no more than a handful of people wearing a mask?

I've never worn a mask as I'm personally excempt from doing so, it's incredibly frustrating to see the lack of care around it now. I don't call others out as I don't know who's truly exempt or not but I'm sure it's not 95% of people!

No one needs to wear a mask in England, so no one needs calling out on anything.
courgettigreensadwater · 02/03/2022 16:55

Apart from no longer having to wear one probably a high percentage of those out and about have had Covid quite recently too and are triple jabbed.

Justleaveitblankthen · 02/03/2022 16:56

My local vets is still sending out text reminders to be wearing one when you arrive.
It's the only place I'm wearing one now - and only under duress ( Not risking them taking umbridge and refusing admission )😕

courgettigreensadwater · 02/03/2022 16:58

@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain

Other than the last week before they became mandatory again 🤦‍♀️ I've worn one every time I go out. Today I didn't. No one else was. I expect we'll be back to wearing them again in about 7 days if last time is anything to go by. Shock

I don't mind wearing them, but I don't want to be the only one.

Why back to wearing in seven days?! Herd immunity, triple jabbed, almost everyone I know has had it now. We need to live with it as we do with flu. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Billandben444 · 02/03/2022 17:07

I've grown quite fond of my mask. It covers my droopy jowls and my resting bitch face. I save on makeup apart from eyebrows and a bit of liner (don't want to frighten the horses) and I'm quite happy to continue wearing it until the weather warms up. I don't know why it should be of concern to anyone else though...a bit odd.

TheMagpie · 02/03/2022 17:28

@AllThingsServeTheBeam

I've noticed this for around six months, actually. Just because people are no longer legally required, doesn't mean it's not still a good idea to wear one.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/03/2022 17:30

I’ve stopped.

I'm triple jabbed and I have already had it. I rarely leave the house as it is. So it is a fine idea for me to not wear one. Carry on as you are though.

@BirdOnTheWire

Why does it bother the non- mask wearers that others choose to wear one? My wearing a mask doesn't hurt anyone so why does it upset so many people? I am extremely vulnerable to covid and choose to add the tiniest bit of protection when I am in a confined space.
I can only speak for myself. For me, seeing other people wearing masks is a constant reminder of the freedoms we lost during the pandemic, of lockdown, not being able to see friends & family etc. Now that it's coming to an end, I think we should be celebrating this fact, and throwing those uncomfortable, itchy, smelly things straight into the rubbish bin! I don't understand why some people enjoy wearing them so much, but they are free to do so if they choose.
Rummikub · 02/03/2022 18:23

Thrvknky thing then you cs. Control is your response to it
You’re right it’s their choice

Rummikub · 02/03/2022 18:23

Only thing you can control is your response to it.

That’s what that was meant to say above

Tzimi · 02/03/2022 18:36

@VladmirsPoutine

I'm never going to stop wearing them. I actually no longer even wear them because of covid. They just provide so many other benefits to me. Asia had it right when they conceived of mask-wearing!
What benefits??
JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 02/03/2022 18:50

I like wearing mine Blush I enjoy being 'invisible' when I'm out and about. Lots of people still wearing them in the supermarket at the weekend and it was mandatory at Drs appointment and pharmacy I went to today.

Winemeup · 02/03/2022 18:56

Masks aren’t to protect you, they are to protect others.

ilovesooty · 02/03/2022 19:31

If your mask is smelly there's something wrong with the way you're wearing it.

If people want to wear a mask in certain settings they have no obligation to consider the feelings of others who struggle to cope with their choice.

Tzimi · 02/03/2022 19:35

@Mermaid67 "So you want everyone to walk round looking like they’re in an apocalyptic world to protect people from illnesses that are natural and most people have effective immune systems for?"

You've really hit the nail on the head! This is what I also find most disturbing about seeing other people in masks. It just freaks me out! Now that they aren't compulsory, I wish people would stop wearing them & we could go back to seeing normal-looking people walking around!

Tzimi · 02/03/2022 19:37

@Figgygal

Im still wearing them as just because boris removed restrictions to save his own shameless arse doesnt mean covid has gone away. They dont bother me anyway
But many other countries have also lifted all restrictions, such as Denmark & Sweden. So it's not just to keep Boris happy!
mamabear715 · 02/03/2022 19:46

Figgygal spot on.

QuirkyTurtle · 02/03/2022 19:46

@Tzimi do you get offended when you see other peoe wearing raincoats when it's not raining? Does it upset you to be reminded of sad days spent indoors because of bad UK weather?

Mermaid67 · 02/03/2022 19:49

You mean as a prop for social anxiety? That's interesting, I never thought about masks in that way!

Oh, come on! How can you compare a global pandemic with a rainy day? That's just stupid. Many countries have dropped the restrictions now, and it would be nice to see things go back to normal.

Most people weren’t wearing them because they were compulsory, but because of the serious risk from Covid. Have a look at the figures. The risk is still high. What you are saying is that you want to forget about the risk, but us damn sensible types get in the way of you doing that!

cantdocando · 02/03/2022 20:36

In Northern Ireland this is the first our mask policy has lifted from the start of this . and I would say more people are wearing them now than they ever did. The looks and tuts I get for not wear one is extreme at times
