AIBU to think nearly everyone has stopped wearing them?

At the weekend we visited a local tourist attráction, went swimming, went to the pub, went for a meal out, and went shopping. During this I saw no more than a handful of people wearing a mask?

Before covid people used to laugh at Chinese/Japanese tourists who wore masks when they were feeling under the weather, I think it was very nice of them to try and protect their fellow humans

mamabear715 · 02/03/2022 12:11

@MarvellousMonsters, totally agree. :-(

Tzimi · 02/03/2022 13:01

You still see a few sad people round here, walking in the empty street by themselves with masks on. They don't seem to want the pandemic to end...

Now we laugh at local people wearing masks when they don't have to! Smile

I still wear one in supermarkets. I havent caught a single cold in the past two years and attribute this to mask wearing in public spaces, so I'll continue for as long as possible! The positives definitely outweigh the negatives for me.

I also work in a private medical facility where masks aren't legally required, but I need to get very close to patients faces. We have on a sign on the door kindly asking that patients wear a mask for our protection and theirs. The amount of sneering twats who have refused to put one on for a ten minute appointment because "I don't have to any more" is, quite frankly, embarassing. We refuse to deal with them.

Fluffmum · 02/03/2022 13:36

Wales most people are still wearing them

mamabear715 · 02/03/2022 13:38

There are some dim folk.. 'I don't HAVE to wear a mask..' people used to say that about seatbelts in cars, too..
Obviously because the Govt say we don't have to wear them any more, the pandemic's gone away, hasn't it?
Unless you google the up to date figures..

Not saying the Govt announced 'no masks any more' to cover up their parties, not at all..

What makes you think people who don't wear masks think it's gone away? I don't think it's gone away. I just don't want to wear a mask.
Stirling2701 · 02/03/2022 13:53

Well, I for one will be wearing them for the foreseeable future. My DH is clinically extremely vulnerable and I cannot afford to take any risks. Besides which they hide the lines around my mouth.

JangolinaPitt · 02/03/2022 13:55

Thank god it’s all over with the masks.

This Pathetic clinging on and desperately trying to keep the panic going

Sheep! Smile
GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 02/03/2022 14:04

I'd rather be a sheep than get COVID.

I also don't want a cold or flu and I haven't had either since wearing mask. That's my choice. You go and catch whatever you want.

ChiselandBits · 02/03/2022 14:09

I find it odd that so many of the responses seem to centre around people wanting to wear masks because THEY don't want covid, or colds or whatever ot to catch and transmit it to CEV people at home, but unless they are FFP2/3 masks, they won't achieve that. PP saying they haven't had a cold for two years - that will be because the people with colds were either staying home pending PCR tests or wearing masks as we all had to most of the time, not because your piece of cotton protected you, so wearing one when 99% of others aren't, won't really achieve your aim.
If you are continuing to wear it out of a sense of civic duty in case you DO have something, then fine, no harm if you want to, but is that it now? Will you always do so? Forever?

Yep.. I WILL carry on wearing a mask.
I feel personally that it's the right thing to do, to protect as many people as possible. Several people have already posted that they, or family members, are vulnerable.

Eh?

What mask do you wear because if it is just a fabric one or surgical that isn't going to stop you getting covid.

Do you get flu every year or something?

It's not the mask that has stopped you from getting a cold it probably is the 2m and the fact people learnt how to actually wash their hands.

Also, if you're not socialising or actually going out then of course you're not going to get a common cold.

The sheep thing was a joke about Wales! Have you never heard any Welsh sheep jokes?

Same. I live in a relatively quiet area where it's very easy to avoid people in the streets and it baffles me to see people walking around with them on when there is barely anyone around. I think for a lot of people they have become a comfort blanket of sorts.
ilovesooty · 02/03/2022 14:44

I have to wear one to give blood later this week.

VladmirsPoutine · 02/03/2022 14:49

What I don't want to happen and absolutely see this beginning to happen is those who aren't wearing masks somehow feel affronted by those of us who still wear them as though we're making some sort of statement. I absolutely the invisible gaze of others when I'm outside - the mask has been a revelation!

Lacedwithgrace · 02/03/2022 14:52

More people wearing them now than at Christmas time here. Only people who don't bother are supermarket staff and elderly people. I'll be wearing mine for some time yet

@Tzimi why on earth should people who want to continue to wear a mask in certain settings have any effect on your feelings, or be in any way responsible for them?

mamabear715 · 02/03/2022 15:31

@ilovesooty
Same! Confused..
