To wonder if Putin is serious.

It was on channel 4 news that Putin has ordered his nuclear deterrent on high alert. But tomorrow there's supposed to be peace talks. What the hell is up with the man. I must admit to feeling even more worried now.

It's really pointless to worry about something so out of your control because there's absolutely nothing you can do. Maybe have a break from the news. Who knows what he'll do, but I'm sure everyone who can do anything about it is doing what they can.

ConfusedNUpset · 27/02/2022 19:55

I think he’s mentally ill and I’m hoping to god the Russian military see sense and go against him.

forcedfun · 27/02/2022 19:57

It's brinkmanship. Upping the ante to put pressure on for the talks.

GirlInACountrySong · 27/02/2022 20:12

mentally ill, rumoured to be dying and to have parkinson's.....a man who has not really done much with his presidency apart from this!

he's on the edge and needs taking out

Gilead · 27/02/2022 20:18

It’s unlikely he’ll do anything .
Putting the deterrent on high alert does not mean he’s going to nuke anywhere. Why, because what good will it do him or his crnies to rule over countries that are essentially a totally useless landmass?

Ohmnomnom · 27/02/2022 20:23

I think it's the despot version of "do you know who I am?" just to remind us all that he has his precious nukes.

A poster on another thread pointed out the power of propaganda in war. He needs his country behind him. What better way to turn his people against the west than claim they are under threat from a nuclear attack from NATO.

MillenialInDenial · 27/02/2022 20:28

Apparently being solo during the pandemic made him become increasingly paranoid and only listens to a few in his 'inner circle' imo he's gone absolutely crackers and is behaving in an extremely dangerous manor.

Ciaram55 · 27/02/2022 20:32

But going on high alert risks the US and the rest of NATO on high alert also, risking misunderstandings and potential for possible use. He's really raising the stakes now.

Putin is reknowned for making quiet threatening commnents to the world, he likes to play the big important dictator, who can decimate all the countries that he hates.. He seems to be devoid of any emotions and feelings at all. Watching him speaking, you cannot ever tell what is going on in his mind at all. I am sure that he thinks, that he can rule the world so to speak. But he also lies quite a lot, so never to be trusted.

I think Nato has more power with nuclear stuff, more than Putin, so Putin will have to back down with his stuff, or there will be trouble all over in countries everywhere.

BFCfairy · 27/02/2022 20:34

My DH is now convinced that he will nuclear bomb Europe and we are "4mins away"

I wasn't worried previously, thinking that at some level Russians in power would.stop it before he enhililated millions... but usually my DH is pretty level headed!

I'll find that sand now for my head!

This.
SouperNoodle · 27/02/2022 20:36

This whole situation is utterly terrifying. I've been on the verge of a panic attack all day.
Those poor Ukrainians are living in hell right now. Someone needs to stop Putin before there's worldwide destruction.

biggreenhouse · 27/02/2022 20:36

he has very little to lose now at this point.. which is a worrying position to be in.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 27/02/2022 20:39

He is having a mine is bigger than yours moment.
His bully boy tactics haven't worked so he's gone to full force Armageddon fear tactics.
Hopefully someone close to him will have shot him in the head at some point soon and we can all have a cup of tea in peace.

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 27/02/2022 20:41

It's giving me fear like never before
However there is literally nothing we can do therefore worrying is futile

I think it's gone beyond bluffing.
Poetrypatty · 27/02/2022 20:42

Ordinary Russians and people high up in Russia won't want the retaliation. They are the ones best placed to stop him.

Oh we can dream. I mean something needs to be done. How hard can it be to overpower the little bastard and lock him in a cell.

Pretty scary we have had/do have so many scary men in charge of countries in recent decades.

Fairisleflora · 27/02/2022 20:57

You are Sergei Lavrov (smrusdian forign minister) or the head of the Russian army and Putin tells you to nuke somewhere. You know that the immediate response would 100% be a nuke on Moscow. Do you comply knowing you and all of your family will definitely die, or do you just put a bullet in his head / mount a coup. The latter. I am not worried whatsoever. Chill people!

He’s not mentally ill. He’s a psychopath.
Liamgallaghersparka · 27/02/2022 21:06

There isn't going to be a nuclear war ffs, the amount of scaremongering threads I've read on this is beyond ridiculous.
On BBC news it reports that Putin has put nuclear weapons on special alert but the announcement doesn't mean Russia is going to use them.
He has done it in protest at the West voicing opinion against him. Hes trying to be a big man.
If he were even to try, he knows that NATO also has enough weapons to destroy Russia if they were even used.
People are right to be concerned but most of these threads are pure hysteria.
A new post partum mum was on here the other night absolutely beside herself, ( most likely after reading the threads on here) seeking some kind of reassurance and one of the answers was more or less saying if they dropped a nuclear bomb she and her kids wouldn't know anything about it anyway. I mean, what the fuck??
I suggest you get your news from reliable sources who know what they're talking about, don't rely on the newspapers or Twitter, they're full of sensationalist shit.
And think yourself lucky that we still have the luxury to go about our daily lives, unlike those poor sods in Ukraine who are being bombed to shit out of their homes.
