What do you love and hate about your bathroom

What would you change

OP posts:
AnneLovesGilbert · 17/02/2022 19:12

It’s absolutely tiny but that’s not going to change.

We’ve made the most of every possible inch. Biggest bath we could fit in and it’s got taps on the side so it’s really comfy both ends. Massive waterfall shower head, it’s so good I miss it when we’re away. Big natural stone type tiles make it feel bigger and a bit spa-like.

Davros · 17/02/2022 19:13

I hate climbing into the bath to have a shower
I like (not love) the big cupboard

KohlaParasaurus · 17/02/2022 19:14

I love the shower controls being accessible without standing/putting my arm under the shower head. I would change the fixed position mixer tap on the washbasin for one that swivels.

StoneofDestiny · 17/02/2022 19:16

It's massive (like a small bedroom size) with 2 large sinks. I can't imagine brushing my teeth or washing side by side with my husband - so don't get the 2 sinks thing. If I was ever retiling I'd get rid of one sink and put in a cupboard or something.

Stillgoings · 17/02/2022 19:17

I don't like my shower screen. It's a bit leaky. If I could go back I'd go for a curtain.

LadyEloise1 · 17/02/2022 19:23

I love having an ensuite.
But I hate the travertine marble floor.
It has Devimat electric underfloor heating which, when it worked cost a bomb and now when it doesn't work , the floor is freezing.

I love that I have a curved bath and a shower ( over the bath ) with a curved glass screen. The curve gives extra space in the shower.

I love the "twirly cabinets" - think of a pole with shelving through it. So useful.

We didn't need such a fancy basin - too much fancy basin and not enough space at the sides of it. It has pull out drawers underneath that are brilliant.

The pull up blind is very handy as it lets light in and yet there is privacy.

TheNoodlesIncident · 17/02/2022 19:25

I really dislike the way the bath panel blows out when it's windy.

Previous owner discovered he didn't have enough gradient on the drain pipe from the bath, so - as you do - took out some floorboards under the bath to create more slope. Naturally there's a hell of a draught now there's a hole in the floor. And there still isn't really enough gradient, but at least it's not level.

On the plus side, we put in a fitted cabinet so there's lots of storage for facial hair removal cream, spot zapper and panic-buying quantities of loo roll.

sadmad · 17/02/2022 19:25

Love my wall tiles. Love the lino, it's just plain but we had tiles before and given the amount of falls my children have I'm glad we have something softer down! Also love the vanity unit, it hangs on the wall and has space under for the kids stool.

Dislike the bath, it's very square and not massively comfortable. Mid pandemic purchase so couldn't try it out in a showroom or anything just bought online. It's also a P shaped one, wish I'd just got the bigger one rather than trying to save a tiny bit of space.

TheMissingMango · 17/02/2022 19:26

I hate the exposed crinkly soil pipe thingy at the back of the toilet. So grim and difficult to keep clean.

TobyMory · 17/02/2022 19:27

I hate the bath. It’s way too long for me so I am literally laid flat in it. Perfect size for my husband though. Always try before you buy but hard if different heights. I love a bath so was very disappointed after it was fitted. Looks nice though.

cliffdiver · 17/02/2022 19:27

Love: it has a large airing cupboard, which is a godsend for drying clothes in the winter

Hate: it's OLD and in desperate need of replacing. The tiles have fish on them Shock

Thankfully we're getting it replaced later this year.

Elletine · 17/02/2022 19:32

I love my enormous freestanding bath! Honestly I spend ages in there marinating, it’s just delightful!

I hate that it gets so much condensation.

If I had my time again I’d do a different floor, like a gently tumbled natural stone rather than the boring (and slippery) tiles I have…

Furrybutts · 17/02/2022 19:33

I hate that it doesn't have a window. New build house.
Have always loved airing the bathroom every morning.

oldperson1 · 17/02/2022 19:38

All of at the moment was cleaning floor today (tiles) and somehow slipped on my a**e banging my head and elbow.
If I never go in there again I will be happy 😢

RoseMartha · 17/02/2022 19:41

The pressure of the water when running a bath is on the low side. I would change that if it were possible. Unfortunately it isnt.

Other than that its a fairly new bathroom put in by previous owners and I think its great.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2022 19:44

I love my deep marine blue tiles.

ItsSunnyOutside · 17/02/2022 19:51

Love our tiles and flooring, also the shelving that runs across the back wall. Love the big mirror.
Would like it to be bigger and would be happy to take the bath out and just have a big walk in shower, but dc loves her baths so would never get rid of it.

JustJam4Tea · 17/02/2022 19:51

Hate the shiny white floor tiles, impossible to keep clean.

Like the underfloor heating, electric.

Like the walk in shower in the en-suite.

Love the digital controls.

Twattergy · 17/02/2022 19:56

In the one I've done up - love underfloor heating, walk in shower, shower controls reachable without getting wet and chunky extra wide towel rad that fits wide towels on!
In one I haven't done up, dislike the curved creaky shower unit, no underfloor heating, old school pedestal sink and victorian style taps.

VerbenaGirl · 17/02/2022 19:56

I love the big window - so I can lie in the bath and bask on a sunny morning. I also love that we painted the room electric blue. I don’t like the white tiles, which are from when the house was built in the 90s, or that we haven’t had a side on the bath for several years now - just never makes it to the top of the to-do list.

Hohofortherobbers · 17/02/2022 19:58

I like my shower bath, bigger at shower end. Also like our high shower pressure.

DilemmaDelilah · 17/02/2022 20:03

Love my new(ish) bath - we have a very small bathroom and needed to fit in a bath, loo and basin but needed a wider bath (because I have a huge fat arse and couldn't get in and out of the old one) with space to stand under the shower comfortably. Got the perfect bath in the Homebase closing down sale. 800mms wide with a nice round bit to stand in when having a shower. And I love that I have acrylic panels on the walls, not tiles. Beautiful colour, no grout, no mould. Lovely!

Champagneforeveryone · 17/02/2022 20:05

We're currently in rented accommodation while our house purchase goes though so not technically my bathroom.

I am however rather fond of Barbara who is the most spectacular false widow spider who lives high up in the Velux window. I know it's not a popular view on MN but I find her absolutely fascinating and it's actually quite a privilege to be able to watch her in her scribbly web on a daily basis.

AnotherMansCause · 17/02/2022 20:06

It's an internal room with no window, so no natural light or ventilation. PITA as during a power cut it's virtually impossible to use without a torch, we have to turn the light on even during the day, & the fan turns off way too soon after a shower so I'm constantly worried it's going to develop mould in there.
I also hate the tiles. They are literally the most highly textured tiles I've ever seen in my life, & a total nightmare to clean. Literally need to spray every inch with cleaner, let it sit for a while, then scrub with an old fashioned scrubbing brush. Corners have to be done with a toothbrush. If I don't do the entire wall area around the bath/shower every week it looks absolutely awful, I don't know who designed them but they want sacking, they're the least practical things ever.
OTOH it's the only room in the house that's not freezing cold in winter. Sometimes I go in just to get warm.

FlamingoDust · 17/02/2022 20:07

Hate the tiles (always wanted real tiles) will go back to limo next time. Hate the glass shower screen, gap slightly bigger at one side at bottom so seals are constantly breaking and have to be replaced
