What would you change

OP posts:
Scuttlingherbert · 17/02/2022 20:13

I regret choosing dark blue tiles in the bath/shower as limescale shows up more easily

FreakinFrankNFurter · 17/02/2022 20:20

Our bathroom is small as we swapped round what was the enormous bathroom and turned it into a spare double bedroom.

I don't mind it being small as I love that I now have a proper spare room for guests.
I love the underfloor heating, the showers controls being at the opposite end to shower head so we don't get wet when turning it on. I love the all in one water/overflow/plug control, and the bathroom cabinet

I like the way the bath looks but don't enjoy having a bath in it as I can't relax in it - it's too long and I'm too short! I miss my corner bath

YouMuckyDuck · 17/02/2022 20:21

I love having side jets in the shower as well as a big shower head. They work independently so I don't have to get my hair wet everytime I shower
Bliss

everythingthelighttouches · 17/02/2022 20:22

Just done ours, so I love pretty much all of it!

massive Victorian radiator with heated drying rails; stone base tray of the walk in shower, marble-topped vanity unit with inset basin.

The toilet has got a weak flush which is really annoying. I don’t know why but older toilets have much more powerful flushes.

userxx · 17/02/2022 20:27

@AnotherMansCause It never occurred to me about having to put the bathroom light on!

MinglingFlamingo · 17/02/2022 20:27

The size of the bath. I am convinced that it could take a bigger bath. The room needs a to be massively reconfigured

Oldenoughtobedead · 17/02/2022 20:30

Love underfloor heating and electric toothbrush charging point.
Wouldn’t bother with a heated towel rail again.
Definitely prefer shower curtain to shower screen.
Love the waterfall shower but only because I’ve got great water pressure (pump).
Love my three wall mounted storage cabinets (large medicine cupboards). Hate big basins unless you have a huge bathroom - I have a tiny bathroom.

WombatChocolate · 17/02/2022 20:34

I like our huge airing cupboard. - so useful.
Like the basin which is both basin and worktops either side in one continuous lump of whatever it’s made of….no cracks or joins for dirt to get into and so easy to wipe down.
This also gives us 3 decent cupboards underneath - useful.
Like our shower cubicle - is 800mm square and built into alcove, so 3 walls and then a pivot door which swings into room. Controls and shower head are on a side wall in it and you don’t get a wet hand switching it on. Some say 800mm is too small, but I think as square not quadrant, it’s fine for most average sized people,
Like the wall niche built into shower. Means the space is good and we don’t catch ourselves on an annoying metal rack or other bottles holding device.

Don’t like the loo. It doesn’t have much water in bottom of it (eco) and the internal shape of it means, that despite feeling like it flushes hard, skids are frequent - annoying,

Don’t love the bath. It’s an extra wide one and standard length, but the long slope where you lay down, means the base of it is short and you can’t fully lay down. Yes, it’s comfy as it doesn’t have a steeply raked end, but the cost is loss of length - means my bum is about a 3rd from end, and so my knees must bend a bit. A shame as out previous bath allowed to lie down fully.

Like the extra long and decent heated towel rail. Can easily dry a couple of big towels and bath mat. Disappointed we didn’t go for one which you can use in summer when heating is off. Love a warm and fully dry towel. Summer means sometimes very lightly damp.

This is a huge bathroom…was originally a big double bedroom in period house. So realise the space has allowed us to have large versions of things and we still have loads of floor space. Perhaps I will get the bastard loo which leaves skid marks replaced…

freshcarnation · 17/02/2022 20:38

Hate the freestanding bath. It gets filthy underneath and is impossible to clean behind properly. Hate the stupid shower that we have never used because we are bath people.

Natsku · 17/02/2022 20:40

I love that its a wet room (shower room rather than a bathroom I suppose. We don't have a bath). I hate that it has no heating any more, its rather chilly in the winter.

FlossMoss · 17/02/2022 20:41

Love
Drawers under the sink
Walk in shower-screen but no door
Hooks on both sides of door

Hate
Tiles too dark
Free standing bath - waste of space.

Watto1 · 17/02/2022 20:41

Love the laminate boards instead of tiles - 3 years old and still look brand new. Love the taps on the side of the bath rather than in the end. Hate the D-shaped loo - tricky to clean in the corners of the ‘D’. Hate the the push plug. The mechanism is already knackered and I have to get the plug out with a knife.

FastFood · 17/02/2022 20:43

Its tiny. Its ugly but I'm planning on having it redone entirely so I absolutely don't mind at the moment.
I love that it has a window. I find it pretty rare in flats, weirdly.

MrsTophamHat · 17/02/2022 20:44

Hate everything except the shower which is really good pressure and waterfall style. I miss it when we're away.

New bathroom incoming next month. Can't wait for wall hung vanity with deep drawers, marble tiles and new, non-rusty lighting.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 17/02/2022 20:44

I hate the towel rail, it doesn't give out enough heat for the size of the room and whilst I thought putting the end of the bath into an alcove to create a shower cubicle was a great idea, it is an absolute pain in the arse to lean in and clean the shower area.

But I still love the mosaic tiles.

youdialwetile · 17/02/2022 20:49

We put in a bath with shower over it because "everyone expects a bathtub". Wish we had just gone for a large walk in shower. I have had a bath in the tub one time in 4 years.

SwelegantParty · 17/02/2022 20:51

In my shower room, I love my huge ikea wall cupboard above the sink with mirrored doors and the matching Hemnes two drawer unit under the very wide sink, which has loads of room at the sides to put things down.

I love the shaver point I had put inside the cupboard, so my electric toothbrush is permanently on charge but out of sight.

I love the fact that the shower controls are by the opening of the cubicle, so I don't get my arm wet when I turn it on (the builder was grumpy about that, as it made it much harder to fit, but I won).

I love the wall niches in the shower, so useful for shampoo etc.

I love the 12" high shelf at the side of the shower to put my foot on whilst I shave my legs or wash my feet.

I love the mosaic tiles in the niches and for the sink splashback.

I love the glitter I mixed into the paint for the walls - it's very subtle but it makes me smile.

I hate the waterfall tap in the main bathroom - it looks amazing, over a countertop oval sink, but it's a pain to use.

I hate the bath in the main bathroom as it's too short for me - if my boobs are underwater, my knees aren't, and vice versa.

Anonymous48 · 17/02/2022 20:53

We are incredibly lucky and I love our ensuite bathroom, so I feel a little ridiculous complaining about anything about it! However, if there were things I could do to improve it, that would be a rainfall shower head, and the bath being an actual jacuzzi. (It's a Jacuzzi brand but doesn't have any jets.) I love having a separate walk in shower, and having the toilet behind a door that can be closed. If I was to redo it I would probably choose different tile and get rid of the glass block, just because it's a bit outdated now.

Anonymous48 · 17/02/2022 20:54

Oh, also, I wish there was a shelf/footrest in our walk in shower for when I shave my legs. That would actually be really useful.

workpredicament · 17/02/2022 20:54

The really shit finish - get good tradespeople

Ffsmakeitstop · 17/02/2022 20:56

Love my fully tiled walls
Hate the shape of the toilet, the underneath is weirdly grooved and no one apart from me realises that bit needs cleaning it's a bastard.

Envoitrevisage · 17/02/2022 21:00

Love fully tiled walls and I love the radiators- two, one electric and on 365 days a year. I can’t cope with cold bathrooms and damp towels. The other is a a normal radiator on when the heating is on.
Also love the blind; it’s one specifically for bathrooms and is mould and damp resistant.

I love: the size (2x3m), the view (over countryside) and the fact the loo is in a separate room.

GenialHarryGr0ut · 17/02/2022 21:11

Love the bamboo flooring
Love the fact that we have a great boiler so have unlimited really hot water (previous house managed lukewarm most days)

Hate the beige tiles
Would like to fit a heated towel rail
