What do you love and hate about your bathroom

What would you change

OP posts:
Longingforatikihut · 17/02/2022 22:53

I hate all of it.

The tiles are dated, but not enough to make them funky and vintage. All the wall holders are damaged. The shower screen doesn't keep the water in as the water pressure sprays beyond it. The shower comes directly off the combi so im always juggling between too hot or not hot enough. The floor tiles have 0 purchase. The size of the bath means the toilet is a tight squeeze. Mixer taps, I just hate mixer taps. The previous occupants must have smoked in the shower or something as there's little melty spots where they look to have dropped fag ends. There's no extractor fan. The light is just a normal one so not sure it's actually safe for such a wet environment.

Thank eff I'm only in there for quick shower and pooping.

Swonderful · 17/02/2022 23:08

Hate the grey tiles. It's so depressing!

AnotherMansCause · 17/02/2022 23:08

I also hate the toilet. When it flushes, the water barely touches the back wall of the bowl, so any "residue" just sort of... remains there. It's really badly designed, it's totally obvious that whoever sourced the items for our house just got whatever was cheapest (probably because they had rubbish reviews & couldn't sell them at full price).

I love my bathroom. I have a free standing bath, a walk-in wet room style shower, two sinks and a dressing table set up area with stool and five mirror fronted built in cupboards.

This is one room where I wouldn't change a thing.

fairlygoodmother · 18/02/2022 03:39

I have a lovely deep bath and a separate shower cubicle, and it’s a good size.

Downside is dark grey tiles on the floor, white tiles, huge mirrors everywhere. It’s like a bathroom in an extremely soulless but quite expensive hotel. And it has underfloor heating but dh always turns it off because too expensive to run.

Maybe I should change it actually.

LaWench · 18/02/2022 04:31

Just moved in so it's quite dated so lots of hates at the moment;

  • Bathroom door doesn't shut or lock, just opens when you're sat on the loo.
  • Shower is a cold mist and absolutely pointless, we've had to take daily baths with a jug for hair washing.
  • No storage, it looks a mess with bottles everywhere.

On the plus side, it's pretty large so we can plan a decent bathroom that works for us.
It has large windows which is fab for natural light.
It has the heating pipes running under the floor so it's warm and like underfloor heating.

Whyamiwastingtime · 18/02/2022 04:45

I have a Japanese bath room. It is basically a wet room shower next to a bath. Japanese style is you shower and then jump in the bath and have a final shower rinse at the end . The bath has a lid so retains temperature and the water can be used by the next person if you want . The bath self fills to which ever level and temperature you have set it to. It will continue to keep the bath at your pre set temperature setting. It also has an air drying function in the room so you can hang clothes up in there and dry them if you want. It will also tell you how much your shower cost if you pre set it.

Avarua · 18/02/2022 06:45

I don't like the chiselled subway tiles; they've dated and I wish I'd gone for something very pared-back

I love the paint colour. Sea glass it's called.

Avarua · 18/02/2022 06:46

I want the japanese bathroom ShockShock

LittleEsme · 18/02/2022 07:47

Me too!

Whyamiwastingtime · 18/02/2022 10:46

Shall i tell you the other thing ? Japanese people have the washing machine in the wash room next to the ‘bathroom’ so… clothes straight in the washing machine. Is pretty ? Nah not really. but I have built a set of shelves above the washing machine e for towels so meh. Does it same time ? Hell yeah.

Whyamiwastingtime · 18/02/2022 11:01

Oh one more thing the bath calls you and says’ I am getting ready ‘and ‘am ready now ‘ so will never just keep running water if you I forget .

VelvetChairGirl · 18/02/2022 11:07

I would get the cracked bathtaps fixed so it no longer needs a rag tied round it to stop it fountaining all over the floor but I cant be arsed calling the landlord about it.

Savvysix1984 · 18/02/2022 11:11

It's massive which is a real luxury. It was previous a double bedroom but previous owners turned it into a bathroom. It has a large bath and separate shower, a large sink with built in vanity and a built in toilet with wall to ceiling storage. It also has a bidet- which we never use!

Woobeedoo · 18/02/2022 11:29

Love that this new house has an en-suite. Dislike (hate is too strong a word) that both the en-suite and the family bathroom have radiators in such silly locations it means wall fitted towel rails of any description aren’t possible - and believe me I’ve spent AGES online checking all shapes and styles - as when fitted they’d either be stupidly high and hang over the radiator and block it or are too deep and would prevent the door from opening to full width. Small problems I know.

Zazdar · 18/02/2022 11:46

The only positive things about mine are it’s generous size and that there is no loo in it.

Otherwise, it is in urgent need of a refit.

notanothertakeaway · 18/02/2022 12:42

OP, I assume you are fitting a new bathroom?

My top tip is stainless steel radiator, not chrome. Not a lot more expensive, and they don't go rusty

Rimless toilet more hygienic / easier to clean

IBelieveInAThingCalledScience · 18/02/2022 13:20

I loathe our enormous bath with massage jets.

It sounds lovely, but trust me it is not.

We're average height and it's annoying not to be able to reach the end with your feet, so you just sort of dangle there, perched. I suppose it's good as core work for your abs.

The jets are super high maintenance and I hate the idea of bacteria and dirt breeding inside, so am forced to clean it more than I'd like.

I love that there it's very minimal, restful and easy to clean.

We're changing the bath to a short/deep bath. That's true luxury, I think.

junecat · 18/02/2022 14:19

Love my roll top bath, the underfloor heating, toothbrush charger in the vanity and the rimless toilet

JustJam4Tea · 19/02/2022 06:17

We’ve got a cabinet with demisting mirrors, toothbrush charger and a little night at light that means you don’t have to put main light on for the late night loo trips.

Hairyfriend · 20/02/2022 13:01

We are renovating, so living in a tiny static van. The bathroom is 4ft by 5ft. I don't know about modern towel rails, but this one physically burns with the slightest touch- which is a daily occurrence as the room is SO tiny.

The main house had a seperate toilet, then a bidet in the main bathroom- with no toilet in there Confused

New bathrooms will have rimless, wall hung, comfort height toilets. DH 6ft 3 and with my dodgy knee, the added height is much easier to sit down on.

Drawers under the sinks

Mirror demisters, shower nook ad acrylic walls sound fantastic

LadyEloise1 · 20/02/2022 16:12

@IBelieveInAThingCalledScience
Like you I loathe our bath with massage jets. Well it's a jacuzzi bath in the main bathroom I had put in.
I was so excited getting it - I had visions of soaking in it but it takes yonks to fill - we run out of hot water.
I think I tried it once.
DH and the dcs have never bothered.
What a waste of money 🙄
I now think if we used it one might get Legionaries disease or something as it has sat so long unused. 😩

Missey85 · 21/02/2022 20:34

Love the size hate the shower it doesn't have a proper screen or floor because its made for a disabled person 😞
