Bought DD some docs for her birthday from Schuh, had them delivered today in a plain brown box thats ripped.
Contacted Schuh who told me that they send them out in plain boxes if the original box gets damaged in transit to them.
AIBU to think that for the price I paid they should be supplied in their original box?

I couldn't get worked up about this to be honest. What were you planning to do with the box?

jytdtysrht · 17/02/2022 16:13

Yanbu
It was a bday gift!

BlanketsBanned · 17/02/2022 16:13

It seems a bit daft for them to send them to you in a ripped box, I would contact customer services and ask if you can get an original box, is there a branch near you. Or maybe contact Doc Martens head office or their London branch. It might seem a small thing but its important.

Cas112 · 17/02/2022 16:14

I probably wouldn't even think about the box...

KirstenBlest · 17/02/2022 16:14

I'd expect them to be in the original box

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/02/2022 16:15

Actually, you know what, I would expect an original box. Lack of box may affect their resale value too, if she ever wants to sell them on.

I guess the problem comes if that’s the only ones they’ve got left.

givemeallthecheese · 17/02/2022 16:15

As it's a bday gift I would send them back and re order, maybe direct from DM? Or another retailer

woodpecker2 · 17/02/2022 16:15

YANBU if they are not in their original packaging to they should be selling them as open box or seconds.

ThanksItHasPockets · 17/02/2022 16:16

DMs are expensive. I'd expect a proper box.

MedusasBadHairDay · 17/02/2022 16:16

I couldn't get worked up about it, shoe boxes are easily damaged so this isn't an unusual policy.

GeneLovesJezebel · 17/02/2022 16:17

Yep, send them back and reorder. I’d expect the original box.

Hellocatshome · 17/02/2022 16:17

Actually having thought about it as its a present I can see where you are coming from and would be annoyed.

Ozanj · 17/02/2022 16:18

I would yes. You could contact DM directly and ask them for the box - their customer service is good, so they may send one to you

ImInStealthMode · 17/02/2022 16:21

I absolutely couldn't be bothered to send them back and re-order for the sake of a cardboard box, what a waste of everyone's time.

I used to work in a shoe shop and often the boxes would have been damaged before they even got to us. We also had unbranded spares available.

Norgie · 17/02/2022 16:21

I would return and re-order. All my doc marts have always come in their original box, whether bought in store or online.
I store them in their boxes, as I do all my shoes.

UserWithNoUserName · 17/02/2022 16:25

I wouldn't care, the box goes in the recycling anyway in my house.

Aprilx · 17/02/2022 16:28

I think they should come in a proper box, but as I would be throwing the box out anyway, I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.

FitAt50 · 17/02/2022 16:29

Would you rather they came in the damaged box?

girlmom21 · 17/02/2022 16:29

I'd expect them in their original box, especially as a gift. The recipient might question their authenticity otherwise; same as if you resold them.

Busygoingblah · 17/02/2022 16:31

Dm boxes are just brown boxes except DM branded. They don’t really come in fancy packaging even though they are expensive so you may still be disappointed if you swap them

tiredanddangerous · 17/02/2022 16:31

I would be annoyed especially if they were a gift

HopefulProcrastinator · 17/02/2022 16:32

Exactly this. DMs are a distinctive brand who exploit it's image at every turn, including the box - I'd be highly dubious about ones not arriving in the proper box given the amount of counterfeit goods on the market these days.
NashvilleQueen · 17/02/2022 16:34

If I bought them in person I'd leave the box behind so I didnt have to take it to recycle. So I couldn't be bothered contracting them about this.

MedusasBadHairDay · 17/02/2022 16:34

Just curious, for those who are saying they'd exist the original box, is the box was damaged enough to be falling apart would you still want it? If not what would you expect them to do about it, given they aren't going to have spare DM branded boxes?

Bagelsandbrie · 17/02/2022 16:35

I’d be annoyed if they were a gift. I’d send back and re order.
