to think if I buy Dr Martens boots they should come in their original box?

Bought DD some docs for her birthday from Schuh, had them delivered today in a plain brown box thats ripped.
Contacted Schuh who told me that they send them out in plain boxes if the original box gets damaged in transit to them.
AIBU to think that for the price I paid they should be supplied in their original box?

@MedusasBadHairDay

Just curious, for those who are saying they'd exist the original box, is the box was damaged enough to be falling apart would you still want it? If not what would you expect them to do about it, given they aren't going to have spare DM branded boxes?
I would expect them to have spare branded boxes. DM should send spares if they're regularly damaged.
OMGItsEarly · 17/02/2022 16:42

@UserWithNoUserName

I wouldn't care, the box goes in the recycling anyway in my house.
I wouldn’t care either.

DS on the other hand -ASD- & it would ruin the product for him if it didn’t come in the right box or if the box was a little bit ripped.

KirstenBlest · 17/02/2022 16:54

When I was a teenager, the packaging was important and I'd have felt cheated

Bellex · 17/02/2022 17:01

Bought some last year off Asos and they came in the original box and it was Undamaged.

Don’t understand why they couldn’t send them in the original or why they’d be damaged in transit considering majority of shoes come in a branded box

Polly2345 · 17/02/2022 17:30

The original boxes are lovely. I keep them and store things in them. I would return for a refund and say why.

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 17/02/2022 18:14

I would want the original box too, I store my shoes in the boxes and the OP says the brown box they came in was also ripped.

Would you have been okay with a damaged box?

duvetdayforeveryone · 17/02/2022 18:20

YANBU. One day your DD may want to sell them, and they will sell better with the matching box.

Ipadflowers · 17/02/2022 18:26

Very surprised by these responses, irs a very plain brown cardboard box,

KrisAkabusi · 17/02/2022 18:39

The only thing I would consider about the box is how easily it unfolds to put in the recycling. I wouldn't even notice whether the box it arrived in was branded or not.

Gowithme · 17/02/2022 18:42

If you were buying them in the shop you wouldn't buy them without the box so I would feel like they'd fobbed them off on you because they were bought online. I'd send them back and buy them elsewhere.

Arabellla · 17/02/2022 18:44

Maybe someone at Schuh is purloining some of the nice boxes for their own shoes and bunging customer orders into old brown boxes.

Gowithme · 17/02/2022 18:44

If Schuh is receiving such badly damaged boxes then they need to contact DM's about that and get them to resolve the issue or get them to send spare boxes. No one wants to give a band new present in a second hand looking box (and I say that as someone who happily buys a lot of second hand things).

Blossomtoes · 17/02/2022 18:47

It’s a bit of cardboard. I can’t believe people are so hung up on a bloody box.

buddylicious · 17/02/2022 18:52

Send them back for a refund and tell them you want another pair in an original box!

Norgie · 17/02/2022 18:57

@Blossomtoes Because some of us like to store them in their boxes when not in use.
Plus if you're buying them as a gift then yes, to be presented in the original box is better.
To you it might be a bit of bloody cardboard, to others it's a bit more.
Each to their own.

BlanketsBanned · 17/02/2022 19:01

you can buy empty DrM boxes on Ebay for £10 - quite a nice little earner there!

SarahBellam · 17/02/2022 19:03

There are loads of fake docs flooding on from China at the moment. They’re about £30 and they don’t come with a box. If I received them as a present without the box I’d assume they were fake. This isn’t a ‘aren’t to a snob, get over yourself’ issue. This is an authenticity issue so I would return them and ask for a pair with a box, unless they had been really really heavily discounted because they were ex display or something and therefore had no box. Docs are about £150 a pair so if I was giving them as a present I’d definitely want the giftee to enjoy the full experience. It’s part of the joy of new docs.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/02/2022 19:27

If I received them as a present without the box I’d assume they were fake

So would I
In fact, with the number of fakes around, I'd have my doubts about what OP has been sent

AlwaysLatte · 17/02/2022 19:30

It wouldn't bother me if the boots were pristine. You'd just throw the box away anyway, presumably.

Calist · 17/02/2022 19:34

Yes they should come with the box. It’s part of the product, and this is especially obvious if you’re buying as a gift.

Dr Martens could just package them all in a plain plastic bag but they don’t, because the packaging is part of the brand.

Roselilly36 · 17/02/2022 19:37

I don’t think YABU, especially when they are a gift.

girlmom21 · 17/02/2022 19:45

Would you feel the same if your engagement ring didn't have a box?
ivfbabymomma1 · 17/02/2022 20:00

If they were just for me I wouldn't care but a gift is different!

ImInStealthMode · 17/02/2022 20:02

@girlmom21 But the shoes in this scenario DO have a box, just not the branded box.

FWIW I wouldn't have given a toss if the box my engagement ring came in didn't have the name of the brand / jewellers on it; in fact I've no idea whether it did or not. It was discarded shortly after I was given it, same as a shoe box. It's the contents that are the important bit, not the box.
