Bought DD some docs for her birthday from Schuh, had them delivered today in a plain brown box thats ripped.
Contacted Schuh who told me that they send them out in plain boxes if the original box gets damaged in transit to them.
AIBU to think that for the price I paid they should be supplied in their original box?

I always buy direct from DM (either the shop, or online) if for no other reason than their returns policy for faulty goods can be really really good.
I'd want the original box for either resale purposes or because they are really good boxes and useful for all sorts of things

@Brefugee

So true
Docs boxes are so handy
Never chuck a Docs box!

Fairislefandango · 18/02/2022 08:10

YABU. It's a cardboard box either way. Who on earth keeps the boxes from all their shoes in case they ever want to resell them? Your house would be full of boxes! Mine go straight in the recycling, whatever brand or price they are!

Brefugee · 18/02/2022 08:26

I'm guessing the "it's only a box" brigade don't care, which is fine, or have never seen the wonder that is a Docs box? They are very sturdy cardboard boxes, with bootprint decorations on them. They are really good for storage because they have a hinged lid - either for your boots or other things.

My take out from this thread is: if you want a the correct box you're not BU to want the box, and if you don't care that's fine too.

ApolloandDaphne · 18/02/2022 08:30

@NashvilleQueen

If I bought them in person I'd leave the box behind so I didnt have to take it to recycle. So I couldn't be bothered contracting them about this.
Me too.
GizmosEveningBath · 18/02/2022 08:31

I resold a pair of docs in the original box and got more than inboxed pairs that had recently sold.

You definately need the original box for a gift otherwise they might look like knock offs.

CharacterForming · 18/02/2022 08:36

Docs boxes are distinctive because of the hinged lid so yes I'd be pissed off it was for a present. Did they come wrapped in the branded paper?

Brefugee · 18/02/2022 08:37

the only boots that i don't have the box for are the ones i bought over 20 years ago. And that's only because i left it for my mum (I was staying with her at the time). She's still using it for art supplies.
Our garage looks like a Dr Marten's shop - there are 4 of us who wear little else and we keep the boxes for all sorts of things

dancingthroughthedark · 18/02/2022 08:46

My ds uses the boxes from branded boots to store things on his bedroom shelves. I always buy a particular brand of boots and use the boxes for storage. I think a lot of people do. Try asking on your local sites and see if anyone has one, if I saw that on a local page for a brand I had I would happily give one away.

I used to work for this company and can assure you nothing counterfeit leaves the warehouse.

This shouldn’t have happened, I wouldn’t be happy either receiving this if I bought it for a gift. If you can, take them back to the shop with your receipt and they should be able to give you an original box for your boots.

VelvetChairGirl · 18/02/2022 09:16

if your that bothered about a box, buy her some decent boots in the first place, rather then over priced fashion boots with no shank made from cheap asian leather with a none repairable sole.

I don't understand how that makes any difference about the box...
Blossomtoes · 18/02/2022 09:44

It doesn’t. It was just an opportunity to have a snarky pop.

By someone who likes velvet chairs... amusing Grin
KylieCharlene · 18/02/2022 09:51

If they didn't come with the original box I'd send them back.

LolaSmiles · 18/02/2022 10:00

Im in the 'it's just a box' camp.
If I buy a pair of shoes it's because I want the shoes for my feet, not because I want a branded cardboard box.

To be honest, I'd rather the shoes were cheaper and less money went towards branding packaging packaging largely goes in the bin or gets damaged in transit.

VelvetChairGirl · 18/02/2022 10:12

Well I am assuming they must feel its a very expensive purchase thus they want all the trimmings to be special.

in which case buy some decent boots that will last in the first place, they wont cost much different.

Dr Martens are the longest lasting shoes I've ever known.

They are absolute garbage since the mid 90s, with the exception of the made in Britain range and the vegan leather range (which is the same as the made in Britain range only with vegan leather).

but you can buy other boots that are better or on a pair with those for less.

I am saving up for some indigo solovairs I will never buy DM's again they are overpriced tosh.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/02/2022 10:32

I wouldn't be happy with that. They cost a fortune as it is.

Walesrecommendations · 18/02/2022 10:34

Schuh send out some absolutely appalling branded boxes, so you probably got off lightly-I got one once that was ripped in several places and inexplicably had a few hearts drawn on in felt pen!

VelvetChairGirl · 18/02/2022 10:37

goto a shoe shop and ask if they have any spare boxes, tonnes of people buy shoes and dont want the box (like me its a pain in the arse carrying a big box home to go in the bin).

Brefugee · 18/02/2022 12:19

not my experience at all. one DC had an issue with a pair once, and since we'd bought them from Dr M online i mailed them about it and we received a brand new pair as a replacement.

There are very very few companies who will do that without quibbling and asking you to send the original pair back (we have both pairs now)
