Meant to quote the telly tots thread Blush

lollipoprainbow · 07/02/2022 07:36

I often wonder about JF. He's in his 50's & single

And??

lollipoprainbow · 07/02/2022 07:40

JF if you’re reading this, I’m sorry if you think I’ve created a thread so people can imply you’re some kind of pervert or womaniser.

That's exactly why you've done it OP.

Lockdownbear · 07/02/2022 07:49

@Allthekittycats

surely the producers can find other people / presenters too.

I’m sure they could too. I doubt whether they would be as good at their job as Justin. He is involved in so many kids shows, in so many capacities. As I said before if he was woman no one would give him a second thought!

Thats my point he is in so many shows, Ceebeeies is like the JF channel every time I put it on, it was him.

Could they not spread the workload around a bit give other presenters and shows a chance.

I always think kids shows work better with a couple of presenters and I've no doubt Something Special would be nicer to watch if they balanced it a bit with someone else. Instead it's all me me me. It maybe the self centered approach I don't like but as well as talking down to the kids there is something else about him / that show I cannot stand.

AngryApple · 07/02/2022 07:49

Oh god I had forgotten about Mr. Bloom. Filthy dirty flirty Mr Bloom.

AngryApple · 07/02/2022 07:53

Prrrrrrrrr…

to think Mr Tumble is creepy AF?
londonrach · 07/02/2022 07:59

I disagree op. I think jf is a nice man who very talented at entertaining children. Never meet him but appreciate his skills. I also like the fact he is vvv quiet re his private life and wish other people on TV would learn the same. My DD has now outgrown him but will watch him if on.

lollipoprainbow · 07/02/2022 08:00

@HailAdrian like Mr Bloom ?!

lollipoprainbow · 07/02/2022 08:01

The bit where the ‘sea faring’ character walks onto the lawn to sing the end song is harrowing.

Harrowing ?? I think you should get out more.

@Luckingfovely

People are allowed to have different opinions!

Personally I find him creepy as fuck. I can't help it, and I have no reason to dislike him, but he makes my skin crawl. (I can still be delighted for all the children he's helped, btw).

What's worse is that I live very close to him so see him around, sat at the next table to him one night in a restaurant, and I couldn't eat because the heebie-jeebies were so bad.

And yes, he definitely was courting attention. Maybe he doesn't do in front of many friends, but he was all faux nonchalance while making sure all eyes were on him. Grim.

What was he supposed to do other than sit at a table and 'nonchalantly eat his dinner' to not court attention? Sit with a box on his head? Eat in the car park? Demand a table away from everyone else's eyeline? I think all of those things would draw far more attention. Poor bloke can't really win here. I don't love Mr T and his associates but I do think this accusation seems a bit unfair unless there is more to the story.
OrlandointheWilderness · 07/02/2022 08:42

I've been on MN so long that not only do i remember the original thread, I was one of the original tumble tarts 😂
Still think he is fab and he has brought so much to so many children.

No I stand by that, it’s really creepy.

I really like JF and the way his shows (along with wider CBeebies) promote real diversity and show children with disabilities as the equals they are. He deserves a major honour, as does the woman who developed Makaton.

I saw him once at the CBeebies circus roadshow in Liverpool. When he was coming down the central aisle as Mr Tumble there was a scraping of chairs as people turned to see what was going on, followed behind and sort of both under and over by this massive roar, a bit like the sound of the sea, as everyone realised who was walking past them and began to cheer. It raised goosebumps and no mistake.

LovelyBitOfSquirrelInTheWirral · 07/02/2022 08:58

I like Mr Tumble and so does DD. I don’t find him at all creepy.
The one I’m totally fed up of is Andy, he is on CBeebies much more than Mr T I reckon. All throughout the day in various shows. Is he the son of a producer or something?!

DaisyStPatience · 07/02/2022 09:12

I love Mr T. He comes across as a nice, funny, talented man who enjoys performing. Some of it is a bit camp or twee but they are children's programmes, they shouldn't be sophisticated by adult standards.

Not sure how people are getting any patronising vibe from Something Special, I think it's great that there's now a programme on a major children's channel which is centered around disabled children in a very low key way. I don't remember seeing disabled people on TV much when I was a child.

SartresSoul · 07/02/2022 09:14

I disagree, think Justin is great in general and something special is one of my favourite CBeebies shows. Not such a fan of Justin’s House, think it’s the fact the town is also Justin Town and it’s just a bit egotistical.

risefromyourgrave · 07/02/2022 09:14

The ultimate in creepy CBeebies fare was the bit in the Teletubbies when a male puppet in a tamo’shanter would wander about a house turning the lights on and off. God I hated that.

Luckingfovely · 07/02/2022 09:27

@22Giraffes it's not nasty, it's true. There is something about him that turns my stomach. You may like him, I don't, and I don't like being in the same room as him.

@JolkienRolkienRolkienTolkien I said 'faux nonchalance', if you read my post properly.

Loving all the attention from the waiters, waving his arms about in a very animated way pretending to be natural. He was not sitting quietly like a normal diner, you could not miss him or the attention he was deliberately courting, while clearly pretending to be oh-so-natural.

He may have done a lot of good through his work and I'm delighted for everyone that he has helped, but having been around him on multiple occasions, something about him feels really odd. I stand by the fact that he's creepy AF in real life.

lollipoprainbow · 07/02/2022 09:27

@Cheekypeach ok you find him creepy not harrowing.

Leighcloon · 07/02/2022 09:29

@kierenthecommunity

Its all YouTubers smashing the place up and shouting ‘Oh My Gosh’ much more weird and annoying than poor Mr Tumble

Ugh. The yelling. And my nine year old never started calling all and sundry ‘bro’ aged three watching any JF shows 😩

This is true. Grin

DS is older now, so it’s been about eight years since I watched any CBeebies, but I genuinely thought JF’s Gail Force was well-observed and funny, though I regarded most of his other manifestations with horror.

Then again, I hated virtually everything on CBeebies, apart from Sarah and Duck, because of Roger Allam’s voiceover. In the Night Garden kind of killed Derek Jacobi for me — I saw his King Lear and kept thinking ‘Quiet, please, Tombliboos!’

Luckingfovely · 07/02/2022 09:31

I should have said,

I stand by my opinion that he's creepy AF in real life.

It's clearly not fact, but it is the truth that that's how he makes me feel.

JolkienRolkienRolkienTolkien · 07/02/2022 09:58

@Luckingfovely Fair enough, that does sound annoying! I was imagining him trying to eat his dinner with everyone else glaring at him Grin

No way is he in his 50's!?

I'll tell my single 50 year old friend that she's creepy too, shall I? Confused
