A flat white is a small latte

momiamarichman · 01/02/2022 20:20

Because it's primarily milk.. just two shots espresso and milk- no water I believe.

Honeyroar · 01/02/2022 20:21

That’s the whole point of a flat white - less milk than a latte or cappuccino, same amount of coffee. It should be served in a smaller cup.

CharliesMummy75 · 01/02/2022 20:21

It's supposed to be a short and strong coffee

thisplaceisweird · 01/02/2022 20:23

The amount of actual coffee is the same it's just a shorter drink with less milk.
Why order one if you don't like the size? That's the only real differentiator. Get a latte.

enjoyingscience · 01/02/2022 20:26

Get a latte then, maybe with an extra shot or two if you like it strong (unlike the costa coffee bucket-o-milk you get…)

MorganSeventh · 01/02/2022 20:28

It's a double shot of espresso. Cappuccino and lattes are usually single shots. You're probably better off getting a latte with an extra shot if you want a longer drink. Four shots of espresso in one go is quite a lot, and I like strong coffee...

Tiramysu · 01/02/2022 20:31

That's the whole point

givemepiece · 01/02/2022 20:33

Get an extra shot latte.
I had this same problem because I really like the ratio of coffee to milk in a flat white (also a cortado)
My barista buddy told me to order a latte with an extra shot instead

Choosealane · 01/02/2022 20:33

A flat white is actually a double with a bit more water than a latte/Capp shot. Then add in 6oz of milk; a latte is a stronger shot and 8oz of milk. Latte's are for people that don't really like coffee.

BrioLover · 01/02/2022 20:34

This is the whole point of a flat white. It's a shorter coffee. Decent coffee shops only sell their flat whites in a smaller cup as they are a specific size. If you'd like a longer coffee try a latte, or a cappuccino if you want it frothy.

Porridgeislife · 01/02/2022 20:34

In Australia, a flat white isn’t a short strong coffee, that’s a weird UK thing. They come in 200mL mugs (same as lattes). The difference between them is in how the milk is prepared.

BuickMcKane · 01/02/2022 20:37

Flat white from the coffee shop I go to is the same size as the rest of the coffees.

trunktoes · 01/02/2022 21:20

Latte is too milky - but will try with an extra shot

OP posts:
Mozzie123 · 01/02/2022 21:42

I ought to report you for that! As an Australian, a flat white is most certainty NOT a small latte.

whydiditalkaboutbruno · 01/02/2022 21:44

That’s why I love a flat white, caffeine hit and hot drink without lots of liquid

Sexnotgender · 01/02/2022 21:46

Exactly. I can’t abide the massive buckets of milky shite you get in Starbucks etc. give me a decent flat white any day.
SuckIt · 01/02/2022 21:47

Can’t you have a white americano? Is that not a bigger version?

(Not a fucking clue but my DH has white Americanos)

bumblingbovine49 · 01/02/2022 21:51

@MyComputerGetsSadWithoutMe

A flat white is a small latte
It absolutely is not a small latte . It is stronger than a latte . Strong with less milk. I don't need a bucket of milk in order to drink the same amount of coffee and in fact don't want what is effectively a large hot milk with a coffee flavour. I want a strong coffee with a small amount of hot milk added . That is why I always.have a cappuccino and not a latte . A flat white is effectively a cappuccino with less froth
endingintiers · 01/02/2022 21:51

Try ordering a latte with an extra shot. Problem solved :)

NoJaffaCakesAreKeptInThisVan · 01/02/2022 21:51

Agree OP it’s ridiculous!

And why does a cappuccino come with so much milk in this country? It’s basically hot milk with a tiny bit of coffee - yuk! A flat-white is basically what a cappuccino should actually be 🤷🏻‍♀️

bumblingbovine49 · 01/02/2022 21:53

White Americanos are usually a bucket of less strong coffee with cold milk added . Fine in its place and I drink those too but they are not at all the same as a cappuccino or a flat white

What rubbish! That’s not true and common sense will tell you so. A flat white is indeed a 7oz/210ml coffee, but that is way smaller than your standard latte. What do you mean by a 200ml ‘mug’, just look at your own coffee mugs - 250ml at a bare minimum for a comically undersized mug from the 70s. Today most are way more than that, just fill any cup with water and see!
KittyWithStripes · 01/02/2022 22:00

… and I say that as a massive fan of the flat white. I don’t like an enormous vat of milky coffee. FW is the perfect size.

headintheproverbial · 01/02/2022 22:04

It's supposed to be short and stronger. Significantly less milk and water than a latte.
