Sorry that this is a daily mail article, but such events are common, but rarely reported on.

Antisemitism has increased at a worrying rate recently, and there seems to be little concern about this.

An example of antisemitism being tolerated, is that when footage of the above crime was posted to a local group on social media, some were saying that these men may have deserved the assault, and unpleasant comments made about Jews.

I'm concerned. I'm Jewish and I've experienced antisemitic abuse. It's definitely getting worse It's the last acceptable form of racism.

Even things like the photo of Marcus Rushford proudly posing with his arm round Wiley last week. The same Wiley who has been banned from multiple social media sites for his antisemitic rants. If this had been someone who had been banned for any other form of racism or bigotry there would have been an outcry.

hibbledibble · 27/01/2022 16:28

Sorry to hear that twenty. I totally agree with you regarding it being seen as an acceptable form of racism.

The lack of care is very worrying. Why don't people carr about antisemitism, when other forms of racism are, quite rightly, not tolerated?

My last MP was Rebecca Long-Bailey.

'Nuff said. The rot starts at the top.

gobbledygoook · 27/01/2022 16:33

It's really really shocking.

And totally commonplace which is more worrying. I used to live in Manchester, and it was widely happening in the area, targeting schools / delis / shops etc. Whenever it was brought up it felt like it was dismissed as well, which was concerning imo.

If Wiley had been being openly racist instead it would have been treated very differently.

Especially on a day like today these issues need highlighting.

I agree. As far as I can see there are two types of racism which are acceptable in the UK.

One is antisemitism, and the other is against the travelling community.

It's disgraceful.

EishetChayil · 27/01/2022 16:48

I'm Jewish too, and feel that anti-Semitism is on the rise. It's terrifying.

Mrstamborineman · 27/01/2022 16:49

This is awful.
Please safely put a candle in your window if you can for holocaust remembrance tonight.
Travellers, Gypsies and Roma have long been considered to suffer the last acceptable form of racism too. It’s a difficult thing to come to terms with. Especially today.

Twentypast · 27/01/2022 16:55

I am sure you won't get many responses either and this will disappear down the pages very quickly as most people don't care.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 27/01/2022 16:59

Yanbu.

People, especially in the Labour part and on the “left”, are in denial that it’s on the rise.

LaPufalina · 27/01/2022 17:00

I will light a candle tonight. I'm part-Jewish (paternal grandfather) and thought I was reasonably switched on about antisemitism but then read David Baddiel's book "Jews don't count" and was shocked about some of the issues.
I intervened in a man dishing out anti-Semitic abuse on a London bus a few years ago to a lone female passenger whilst everyone else sat there trying to not get involved, it was quite busy. I managed to stall him long enough for the bus driver to flag down the police and he was arrested but it was still upsetting how no one helped.

ISaySteadyOn · 27/01/2022 17:00

YANBU at all.

RunningInTheWind · 27/01/2022 17:02

Stand by for the “I’m not anti Semitic- I just hate Israel” ad nauseum.

I’m Jewish too and agree, it’s the last form of acceptable racism. “Because Israel”. Hmm

Maireas · 27/01/2022 17:02

It's of great concern.
That incident with the bus on Oxford Street just before Christmas was vile - young Jewish people on a bus, going to celebrate Chanukah, targeted like that. Then the stories that they had been saying racist things on the bus, shared by the Guardian and the BBC, which turned out to be unfounded.
I wrote to my MP about some antisemitic attacks in my area. It took her months to reply because she was "busy with covid". She's Labour.

AuntMasha · 27/01/2022 17:03

Seeing the footage of that attack on the two elders by a young thug I was absolutely sickened to the pit of my stomach. How can this be happening?

I agree with pp that hatred and bigotry directed at our Jewish and Traveller communities is rife and seen in some quarters as acceptable.

JustDanceAddict · 27/01/2022 17:03

I’m Jewish too and it’s very worrying. And people still don’t understand why most Jews hate Corbyn/Long-Bailey etc.
I didn’t know that re Rashford, totally agree w the PP’s comment above.
It’s Holocaust Memorial Day today so please, Never Forget.

Justcallmebebes · 27/01/2022 17:03

I'm not Jewish but do care very much and will certainly be lighting a candle for my window tonite

DrSbaitso · 27/01/2022 17:03

I was once out in the pub and a Jewish friend mentioned she was Jewish...can't remember exactly how it came up but it was relevant to the conversation, I didn't have any feeling of "why are you mentioning that". Immediately some twat asked her why Jewish people always have to make such a big deal about being Jewish. I was too stunned to say anything, but she looked dead at him and said, "Because we're still getting comments like that."

Stopped him dead, ruined the atmosphere but he deserved it. Good for her. Mazal tov.

OnlyAFleshWound · 27/01/2022 17:04

Yanbu

I'm Jewish and have never known a time like this. The 2019 election was terrifying (I live in a key Jewish constituency). I'm scared

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 27/01/2022 17:05

I agree. People seem to just casually accept it as well.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 27/01/2022 17:05

I avoid telling people I'm Jewish if at all possible. It's scary. My candle is lit. Never Forget.

JustDanceAddict · 27/01/2022 17:06

Can’t wait for that… As if Jewish people in the UK control Israel’s government & army.
dorkfink · 27/01/2022 17:06

I think it's abhorrent & am very confused as to why it's acceptable & victim blaming is the default.

Maireas · 27/01/2022 17:06

I will light a candle, I'm not Jewish.
I am, however, it History teacher and have been teaching the Holocaust.
Two students have claimed that it's made up, there's no such thing.
This is what we're up against.

Distant01 · 27/01/2022 17:07

I'm sorry for anyone experiencing this. It's totally unacceptable.
Today we remember Holocaust Day and all the people who perished ❤️
I will light a candle tonight in remembrance.

Twilightstarbright · 27/01/2022 17:07

I’m concerned too, and it doesn’t feel like it’s taken seriously enough.
