I used to love Etsy for lovely handmade or bespoke items but there’s more overpriced shite on there these days than anything else.

I give you:
Pink sequinned raving trousers for men www.etsy.com/uk/listing/905823261/mens-rave-pants-pink-sequin-trousers?utm_term=Apparel+%26+Accessories&utm_medium=display_product&utm_source=Facebook&utm_campaign=uk_pros_daba_olfv2rev&utm_content=domestic_toppower_combined_listing&utm_custom2=23845226411560123&fbclid=IwAR0xzbXWzNNS6poxyjpNL-ex0LtvLE2OeN5PmXeO6tl2pg4C9rebboy9EnM_aem_AULU0iqg9MgPpZWDj0RdPAC_8K54-o1TvZ7S6uGxOvk4XSRDelnnsQENLK_gTEuNyPuWp5jRqJamJVbhCtPvSWxjdIZti9j00RY3JY3MLb4v5i6QMl2M3rZtdXfTt_693DM

Baubles hanging off a tie rack for £75 www.etsy.com/uk/listing/256931750/drag-racing-startline-christmas-tree?utm_term=Home+%26+Garden&utm_medium=display_product&utm_source=Facebook&utm_campaign=uk_pros_daba_olfv2rev&utm_content=domestic_toppower_combined_listing&utm_custom2=23845226411560123&fbclid=IwAR2wcR7fWknc2vca0obU_JQZjkcxsVJZBt79TF5lDKmZRkDpklUDuygWqpQ_aem_AULU0iqg9MgPpZWDj0RdPAC_8K54-o1TvZ7S6uGxOvk4XSRDelnnsQENLK_gTEuNyPuWp5jRqJamJVbhCtPvSWxjdIZti9j00RY3JY3MLb4v5i6QMl2M3rZtdXfTt_693DM

A magic wand with Googly eyes for £50. Pretty sure my kids have made very similar on rainy days from the crap at the bottom of their craft box www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1074692986/green-googly-eye-stiletto-handmade-magic?utm_term=Apparel+%26+Accessories&utm_medium=display_product&utm_source=Facebook&utm_campaign=uk_pros_daba_olfv2rev&utm_content=domestic_toppower_combined_listing&utm_custom2=23845226411560123&fbclid=IwAR21cgswfLgl3AhpuhfeAg7WnhrOiZnj-P7SWYMqwbPiCwVWC3BeOQk1dMc_aem_AULU0iqg9MgPpZWDj0RdPAC_8K54-o1TvZ7S6uGxOvk4XSRDelnnsQENLK_gTEuNyPuWp5jRqJamJVbhCtPvSWxjdIZti9j00RY3JY3MLb4v5i6QMl2M3rZtdXfTt_693DM

And last but not least for £20 you can purchase, straight from the multipack aisles of Poundland and Iceland, a ‘bouquet’ of crisps worth about £1.20 www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1017488141/crisp-chocolate-bouquet?ref=sim_items_grid-9&frs=1

If I had the chutzpah (and the money) I would wear those trousers.

loloballlolo · 22/01/2022 23:40

the trousers I quite like in a weird way! everything else = junk (sorry!)

MioneAnna · 22/01/2022 23:42

As a festival goer most of my mates would have those trousers in their festival wardrobe (I have sparklier ones!). Everything else, noooo....

RobertaFirmino · 22/01/2022 23:44

The man in the pink sequinned trousers looks fantastic! I bet he would go down a storm in a gay club!

Good grief, it’s like something I dream about after I’ve had a late night cheese toastie

This is so frustrating, I've had a shop on Etsy for 6 years and unfortunately Etsy have allowed more and more mass produced stuff on over the last few years. Those authentic Etsy sellers that are hand making everything and trying really hard to give something a bit unique are still out there though I promise!

MioneAnna · 22/01/2022 23:45

Also think he looks pretty ace
AsYouWishButtercup · 22/01/2022 23:47

@raffys I shopped with Etsy from the start and have bought some amazing things over the years, that people always comment on when coming to the house. I have noticed in the last few months that it’s slowly turning into a more Amazon/Facebook Marketplace hybrid though with any old tat being flogged.

I knew that googly eye weird plastic asparagus 'wand' would be involved when I saw the thread title!

raffys · 22/01/2022 23:50

I know it's such a bloody shame!

SirSamuelVimes · 22/01/2022 23:50

Oh my god, that wand! Genuine 100% crap.

SpacePotato · 23/01/2022 00:01

The sequined pants can stay.

The wands are ridiculous. They have just bought and painted cheap Harry Potter wands and stuck glitter on them.

I've noticed so many listings are now the mass produced tat from China that is sold on ebay and amazon too.

There are still some amazing crafters and sellers on etsy. Proper handmade one offs. Everything I've bought has been beautifully made and unique.

LuckyMeISeeGhosts · 23/01/2022 00:08

What's wrong with the trousers?

RoseRedRoseBlue · 23/01/2022 00:14

We have someone similar on our local FB group trying to flog chocolate and sweet bouquets for grossly inflated prices.

Cigfree · 23/01/2022 00:30

‘Baubles hanging off a tie rack’ Grin

There’s some absolute shite on Etsy now, it never used to be that bad. I don’t even bother looking at it for presents nowadays as it’s overpriced.

And the bouquet of crisps/sweets thing really irritates me - just buy someone 3 multipacks from the supermarket!

DoTheMerengue · 23/01/2022 00:33

The mark up on that crisp bouquet must be amazing.

gelert5619 · 23/01/2022 00:54

I haven't bought anything else on Etsy other than greeting cards from chopskeenan. I always go back and buy more as there's something for everyone, beautifully made and speedy delivery. So many cards these days just aren't right and you won't get something like these anywhere else.

Twofurrycats · 23/01/2022 01:00

The trousers I don't mind. Not for me but as an etsy item. The rest looks like fb marketplace tat.
Etsy should stick to the handmade/vintage/craft items. I've had lovely jewellery and a rag rug from there.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 23/01/2022 01:09

The wand came up on my Facebook feed a couple of days ago and I spent ages working out if they were a sex toy or genuinely being sold as a kids wand.

TedMullins · 23/01/2022 01:18

Wtf the wand looks like a sex toy! The trousers are fine for festivals or events that lend themselves to sequin trousers, I don’t think they deserve to be included amongst this gross tat.

It's not just the last few months, I noticed at the start of the pandemic when people were buying neck gator mask things majority of what I saw on etsy were identical to listings on wish or sold by China based sellers on Amazon and ebay.

Was looking for a nice large capacity pencil case for dd last year and had the same issues £30 for the exact same product with the exact same product images as listings on wish.

I still buy custom order type products but even those are getting harder to find in there because you have to scroll through tons of the mass produced stuff.

NuffSaidSam · 23/01/2022 01:57

The wand is insane! Looks like they've painted a stick they found in the park.

Weirdly, I don't actually mind the crisp bouquet.

KloppsTeeth · 23/01/2022 02:05

Those trousers have a time and place. The rest is shite. I agree that Etsy is being ruined. Similar to Not On The High Street. When it was new/ish they had loads of things that really were unusual but they allowed shops to stick the same mass produced crap. There are gems on both sites but you have to ware through and I don’t know if I could be arsed.
