Horrified at 7month old in pizza express with screen

I went for lunch today at pizza express, there was a couple giving their ?7month old a bottle with a screen propped up with something Disney to watch. They then plopped baby into high chair and put something else on during whole time at the stable. How can people be so stupid! The baby was looking around elsewhere for something more interesting.

You're a horrible, judgemental person.

Justgettingbye · 22/01/2022 16:48

@FOTTFSOFTFOASM

How ever did we manage before screens?

Oh yes, we interacted with our babies, including in Pizza Express.

Good for you. You can feel superior now Grin
Yumperwumpee · 22/01/2022 16:51

I think it's disgusting OP. My child never saw a screen until they were 6 years of age and even then it was only to watch 5 minutes at a time of Latin for Beginners. Hmm

(Seriously though, if you've had such a sheltered life that this "horrifies" you, then I envy you).

Latin for beginners at 6, surely they were intermediate!

Nice try Prince Andrew. There's only one thing Pizza express is known for and it ain't bored MNetters who are too busy people watching.

ButtockUp · 22/01/2022 16:52

Not surprised the OP seems to have disappeared.
Some really bewildering attitudes on here. Quite a few are quite shocking too.

Babies should not be given a screen to shut them up!

🏅 no one can parent as well as those that didn't have the option of screens!

Mine are also too old to have had screens then, but I'm not so fucking sanctimonious! I'm sure at times I would've welcomed a screen.

That was my fault; I was slack. When he was a baby he momentarily caught a glimpse of Peppa Pig through someone else's window as we walked by, so that obviously harmed his cerebral development irreparably.

I hope you weren't eating at the same time. It's bad manners to talk with your mouth open.

OP said the baby wasn't looking at the screen, so it didn't shut them up?

Although it would be good if it meant the rest of the party could eat in peace. What's better a screaming baby or 45 mins of peace to enjoy a meal?

😂😂😂😂 I love this thread!

LonglegsMumtheBlacksmith · 22/01/2022 16:58

This might have been a one off measure so that they could have an important conversation. It might be a weekly event for a couple that has no family support and just wants some time together.
Either way it is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS
You've obviously made a judgement about this family based on more than just the screen use - your language shows exactly how you feel. You've only had a glimpse of their life. The baby was fine, everyone was fine. Keep your nose out.

My DM said the same thing Grin. She loves her grandchild and interacts with him constantly, but I remember joining them both in a cafe when she'd been babysitting for me when DC was around 18 months and her saying to me, 'I'm really sorry but I've put Peppa on my phone for DC. I've been up and down the stairs ten times with him but I really need to sit down now'.

NoRaceInThisHorse · 22/01/2022 17:00

YANBU to not do with your own baby.
YABU to judge them.

godmum56 · 22/01/2022 17:00

@FourTeaFallOut

Horrified? HmmGrin Is there any need to be so dramatic? I was waiting for the bit when they finished their meal and chucked the baby in the pizza oven.
I thought that the OP was going to say they fed him pizza and red bull

I have three children, the waiter asked how old and we heard. I personally don’t like iPads at the table but if people need them for children then fine. There is no excuse for a 7 MONTH old looking at a screen!

Hospedia · 22/01/2022 17:06

Was it your 7 month old? No? Then mind your own business. Going out in public is far more pleasant if you concentrate on you and yours rather than focusing on what absolute strange are doing.

Tilltheend99 · 22/01/2022 17:07

UABU they don’t have stables at Pizza Express as Prince Andrew will confirm.

Momicrone · 22/01/2022 17:07

Mumsnet wouldn't exist without people commenting on stuff that is not our business, why the outrage? Op is commenting on an anonymous forum

Say what you like - sticking a baby in front of a phone is crap parenting.

Why do you say 7 MONTH OLD in upper case? More drama? We can read it in lower case and understand. You're not a fan of iPads? What about kindles, other tablets?
