Horrified at 7month old in pizza express with screen

MadeinSW3 · 22/01/2022 15:00

I went for lunch today at pizza express, there was a couple giving their ?7month old a bottle with a screen propped up with something Disney to watch. They then plopped baby into high chair and put something else on during whole time at the stable. How can people be so stupid! The baby was looking around elsewhere for something more interesting.

What was horrifying? Was there a pervy Prince there?

ItsAlwaysThere · 22/01/2022 16:29

I detest this type of post. My child was very small and acted younger, people used to think she was too young to be eating snacks when we were out and I could sense them judging me.

ghostmouse · 22/01/2022 16:30

I’d have LOVED using a screen of some sort when ds (now 22) was small. He was a fucking nightmare when he was a baby/toddler/small child/teen and it might just have saved my mental health.

He was later diagnosed with adhd/asd later on in childhood but at the age of 1 and 2 we simply couldn’t cope.

Was he the Baby Jesus, OP?

@MadeinSW3

I’ve never seen a child so young with a screen, just shake a toy! The baby looked calm and was smiling when looking away from screen !
Maybe they didn't want to shake a toy. Maybe they wanted to eat their own food.

😂
Chikapu · 22/01/2022 16:33

How do you know the baby was 7 months old? Why were you in a stable?

WonderfulYou · 22/01/2022 16:33

I’ve never seen a child so young with a screen

I can guarantee many 7 month olds have seen a TV before. This is no different.

The poor mum literally just wants to eat her dinner without constantly entertaining her baby for a few minutes what’s the harm in that?

Giraffesandbottoms · 22/01/2022 16:33

@justlonelystars

I’m not horrified - I don’t care. Do whatever you like. If I saw you out for dinner with a screen for your child I would judge you; but that’s human nature and judging by this thread lots of people would but lots of people woudn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

HonestwithHope1 · 22/01/2022 16:34

@justgettingbye

Then they have 70-100+ years of it. 2 years not having it then 10 years or so limiting the use, won't be depriving them or ruin their lives.

Tech addiction, speech and motor function delays could for a short time have awful effects, or may even have serious impacts lasting into adulthood

Goldbar · 22/01/2022 16:35

@Chuechebache

I sometimes wonder,why people decide to have a child.why bother,if you cant be bothered to give a little time to a small human being.
Because sometimes it's nice to eat as well. Just because you have a baby doesn't magically mean that you don't need to eat, sleep, shower, have a few minutes of peace.

If being a parent only involved giving a 'little time' to a small human being, why do we all pay for childcare even if we can work from home?

Andouillette · 22/01/2022 16:36

Have we reached peak catbum face yet?

Giraffesandbottoms · 22/01/2022 16:37

@EarringsandLipstick

I don’t agree with the “all parents parent differently so we have to look the other way”attitude. It’s normal to judge. It’s also important to judge snd sometimes it’s based on what society things is fine for children or not, based on their wellbeing. That’s why smacking is now frowned upon. I wouldn’t see a parent smacking their child and say “oh well that’s how they parent 🤷🏻‍♀️“. Of course screen time isn’t as bad but I personally believe it’s detrimental to set this precedent for the reasons said by a few people/teachers re speech and development.

Of course there are parents who use it sparingly or as a one off etc but there are plenty of parents who abuse screen time and it’s bad for children.

Tinacollada · 22/01/2022 16:37

OP - why didn't you call the police ?

fortheloveofcheesecake · 22/01/2022 16:38

Are you one of those people OP that would also come on here to bitch if the same child was making a noise while you ate? I would guess so. Keep your judgements to yourself....none of your business!

stingofthebutterfly · 22/01/2022 16:38

Horrified by someone trying to keep their baby quiet whilst they're having something to eat? Get a grip.

wakeuphw · 22/01/2022 16:39

Where has the OP gone? They've started a controversial post and disappeared...

TolkiensFallow · 22/01/2022 16:39

I understand your initial judgemental reaction as I once would have been the same, but you don’t know their circumstances. They had 45 minutes to have a hot meal in peace and maybe they really really needed it.

Never judge anyone unless you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.

Morgan12 · 22/01/2022 16:40

@Giraffesandbottoms

Absolutely hate people using screens in restaurants, barring children having special needs. So lazy and sad - talk to your fucking children.
😂😂😂😂😂 like me talking will stop my 8 year old from being a wee dick.
TillyTopper · 22/01/2022 16:40

Perhaps they wanted a nice lunch together as a couple and took a screen to entertain baby whilst they had it. Surely no harm unless it happens all the time. Why be so quick to judge.

Squashfordinner · 22/01/2022 16:43

Wow what's it to you how people parent?!

BABAHOTEL · 22/01/2022 16:43

Because OPs the perfect parent obs!
Momicrone · 22/01/2022 16:44

I agree its a wee bit young to start the addiction

Sodullincomparison · 22/01/2022 16:44

I remember sitting in a restaurant with our 15 month old saying to my husband how sad it was that so many children had screen. 🤣🤣

So naive and ridiculous.

We haven’t taken a screen out to a restaurant mostly because we are not organised enough to remember how HORRIFIC it is to waste £150 in a restaurant on a meal filled with stress and pressure due to entertaining a child in an adult space.

Might trial it tomorrow... thanks for the reminder OP.

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 22/01/2022 16:45

How ever did we manage before screens?

Oh yes, we interacted with our babies, including in Pizza Express.
