To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall?

I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

I do not support Johnson, but I am keen to see the person who ran these parties - the one who ordered the cheese board and sent out the invitations, punished. I really do not see why a number of people here are so deluded that they think it would be a good thing to blame and punish the wrong person.

Why would he be the wrong person? He may not be the only wrong person, but even he admits he was wrong not to put a stop to the event.

derxa · 21/01/2022 06:28

Johnson should never have been prime minister. I voted Tory in 2019 after a great deal of mental gymnastics. We had BJ, Jeremy Corbyn and Jo Swinson. Hmm These 'parties' are BJ's Al Capone moment. He needs to go asap and get someone sensible in.

If it was a vital work meeting, why did seventy percent of the invitees not turn up? 🤔

I think this is a really interesting point.

My work meetings aren't optional. I could only swerve a requested meeting if I was already booked. (Maybe there was more than 1 party Grin).

@Blossomtoes

It really depends on whether the unfortunate PPS is prepared to fall on their sword and say that they received an email like that and did fuck all about it. Given that they can't save Johnson anyway, why destroy their career?

No it doesn’t. If the paper trail includes that email he can’t deny receiving it. He might have a go at saying he didn’t read it although anyone with any sense would put a read notification on it. Reynolds’ career is already over. He has absolutely nothing to gain by not taking Johnson down with him.

There's no knowing what sort of sweetener he might have been offered. There are plenty of lucrative sinecures that are in the gift of the government.
jgw1 · 21/01/2022 07:10

What evidence do you have that suggests corruption ?

I have seen no evidence of corruption. (This is because I have not read or heard anything about Big Dog ever or anything his government have done.)
Also no one has told me that what Boris is doing is corrupt. (Because I do not read any of those tiresome emails or red boxes that Martin keeps giving me).

Yours lovingly Boris "the Big Dog" Johnson

P.S. Msg me if you want a party in exchange for wallpaper.

Crayfishforyou · 21/01/2022 07:18

The No.10 garden is accepted by all as part of the No.10 workplace. Many would argue that keeping staff happy in return for the extra work they had put in is an essential part of running a good working environment

Where were the parties to keep ICU and covid ward staff happy?????
Oh right. They didn’t get parties. They got claps.
Maybe we should all slow clap the tories to cheer them up.

Fairylightsongs · 21/01/2022 07:19

Curious that not only has no evidence of corruption been shown, none of blackmail either, they are frothing at the mouth to the press, showing everything they have but seem to be withholding their evidence for sone reason,,curious that.

The fact that he is having to deal with this kind of rebellion in his own party, not because of policy disagreement but because of completely unforced errors, should tell you everything you need to know about Johnson.
Notonthestairs · 21/01/2022 07:36

Yes this is the line Conor Burns has taken. The same Conor Burns who was sanctioned for abusing parliamentary privilege by threatening one of his fathers creditors.

Blackmail doesn't tend to come in the form of handy email trails. But we will have to see what comes out won't we. Given that fabricant has already said it's very common I suppose there might be something.

Corruption- well it would be handy if ministers didn't keep losing, breaking or updating their phones (Sue Gray special there Wink) but we should start with VIP fast contracts.

longwayoff · 21/01/2022 08:34

No evidence of corruption to those with eyes and ears firmly squeezed shut. Meanwhile the nation looks hard at No 10 with eyes wide-open. So much dodginess it's hard to choose the most obvious and insulting.

I agree it’s difficult to choose, but I still think wallpaper is up there.

You think the evidence of all the MPs who have complained of being blackmailed isn't evidence?
Florianus · 21/01/2022 08:45

Just saying that something happened is not evidence !!!

the80sweregreat · 21/01/2022 08:46

Seems that ' big dog ' had big teeth.
When will these bullied MPs unleash these recordings of them being threatened?

Somebody had better tell the courts this!

So if I say that I have just been to the moon and back, it must be true because I say it happened?

Any more crazy ideas to waste our time?

Somebody had better tell the courts this!

Do you seriously think that if I go to court and say that a MN user under the alias "Notonthestairs" has defrauded me of £10,000, without providing any evidence, the judge will grant an order against you for the sum involved?

Some people will believe anything, as we have seen in this long thread.

NiceShrubbery · 21/01/2022 09:14

This thread is like a spammed-up email box. Shall we start a new one? Why feed bots and craziness?

Notonthestairs · 21/01/2022 09:15

Crazy to suggest that Conservative whips threaten MP's. So crazy that Fabricant has already said it goes on all the time. Right oh.

merrymouse · 21/01/2022 09:16

No, it literally is evidence. People are questioned and give evidence of what they have seen or heard. You seem unfamiliar with the concept of witnesses.

The courts regularly have to make decisions about which of two witnesses are telling the truth with no supporting evidence. If, for instance, you are seen shoplifting you can be convicted on the evidence of someone who saw you doing it, even if you don't handily leave a note saying what you've done.
