To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall?

I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?
@Hawkins001 What evidence do you have that suggests corruption ?

lmgtfy.app/?q=boris+corruption

It's not really 'evidence' but feel free to read all 12+ million pages to establish your own opinion.
I think I prefer, the briefs from the files of dept 5/6 much more reliable and more concrete intelligence, rather than various opinions and hypothetical and inferred analysis and narratives.

Notonthestairs · 20/01/2022 21:59

Fast Track friends and family VIP lanes for PPE contracts (and the rest) and the Cabinet habit of inconveniently losing their phones during inquiries or Johnson forgetting that he asked for wallpaper cash direct from the donor rather hints at corruption to me.

Notonthestairs · 20/01/2022 22:00

You could always start by looking through Good Law Orohrct and reports from Carole Cadwalladr.

Notonthestairs · 20/01/2022 22:00

Good Law Project - no idea what that spelling was.

much apprenticed , ill do some reading and see what perspectives and conclusions that the information suggests.
FatFredsFriedEgg · 20/01/2022 22:14

Sorry, 'files of dept 5/6' means nothing to me, nor to Google (unless it's 'The Official Site For Christmas Villages'??).

This isn't a court of law by the way, it's a court of public opinion. If you've got overwhelming evidence that the proven liar Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson (whether in his own name or in the name of his comedy character 'Boris') has never been guilty of corruption, then please present it in the face of the 12+ MILLION references on Google.

Blossomtoes · 20/01/2022 22:19

Public opinion is the only thing that matters in politics. It’s the basis of democracy.

OhWhyNot · 20/01/2022 22:30

Public opinion matters when it comes to election time. That we are a few years away is helpful to Johnson

And the public can be very forgiving/forgetful once it comes to an election as we saw in the last election

merrymouse · 20/01/2022 22:38

Yes, but do you really think he can go another 2 years without some other self inflicted error? 2 months even?

OhWhyNot · 20/01/2022 22:52

It’s nothing new he has always lied we all know this we have always known he is the most ruthless of politicians

It will all depend on who is lined up to take his place I don’t think they can make up their minds who it should be (senior party members)

If the report is very clear he has lied (not what we all know) then he will have to be forced out but right now I think he may just hang on

Twillow · 20/01/2022 22:57

Surprisingly, as I saw him as a detestable buffon from day one, I am not enjoying it. It feels like just another step along the path turning Britain into a laughing stock. It should never have come to this.

Nat6999 · 20/01/2022 23:01

I used to hate Dominic Cummings but I'm loving the fact that he is heaping shit on Boris. I am really enjoying watching Boris squirm & can't wait to hear his exit speech if he can be bothered to give one.

ClaudineClare · 20/01/2022 23:19

What are "files of dept 5/6'" @Hawkins001?

Nat6999 · 20/01/2022 23:19

It matters that BJ dragged his feet putting us in to lockdown, had he done it 2 weeks earlier there would have been lives saved, the underfunding of the NHS, lack of PPE & ventilators, the millions spent on unsuitable PPE, sending people back to carehomes with Covid, the 150k+ deaths, that's just covid. Then there is the economy, inflation rising, wages in effect falling, energy prices rising, food costs rising, welfare benefits not keeping with inflation, the triple lock being removed from state pensions, lack of funding for schools.

People used to believe back in the day, the earth was the centre of the universe, just because the majority is their and believe x, does not automatically mean they are correct, on the flip side, they may have some revelent points and evidence.
FatFredsFriedEgg · 20/01/2022 23:21

It's next to Area 51. Shhh.

Unfortunately, I typed, before i thought, and as such, I cannot explain further on that matter.
FatFredsFriedEgg · 20/01/2022 23:25

@Hawkins001 Do you have evidence that anyone's ever believed the Earth was the centre of the Universe?

All the evidence that I've ever seen points to the fact that well-informed and intelligent people have never believed that.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 20/01/2022 23:27

As I thought. It's secret evidence.

Proper X-Files stuff then.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 20/01/2022 23:52

Is that an Aldous Huxley reference? I've not read BNW for over 40 years. Is 'Dept 5/6' a reference I should know like 'Room 101'?

I hated, never got, and can't really remember Brave New World (apart from mescal(?), sweaty sex(?) and anachronistic helicopters). I understood 1984 and LOTF though.

He'll never squirm. The man has an impenetrable hide. He won't go unless someone frog marches him out. Which I hope happens asap.

BashStreetKid · 21/01/2022 00:00

@JaniieJones

'A social gathering, with booze and food was against the law at the time, to check this you could watch the Downing Street briefing given by Oliver Dowden on 20th May 2020. Would you like me to share a clip with you?'

They were work colleagues at work, how many times do you need telling?!!

They may have broken rules or they may not. We don't get to decide.

They weren't at work when dossing around the garden with booze they'd brought along themselves and refreshments all laid out for them.

The rules were pretty clear and we're not hamstrung from making a decision about their meaning without waiting for the civil servant Johnson has chosen to appoint to tell us what they say.

BashStreetKid · 21/01/2022 00:01

@Fairylightsongs

They were work colleagues at work

Agree, a lot of people were and still are confused on this, work meetings were absolutely permitted where required, even hotels let you book them, and there was no rules about what you were permitted to eat or drink during them.

Given the phrasing of the email inviting everyone, clearly this wasn't a required work meeting.
BashStreetKid · 21/01/2022 00:09

The No.10 garden is accepted by all as part of the No.10 workplace. Many would argue that keeping staff happy in return for the extra work they had put in is an essential part of running a good working environment

Those who would argue that would have got precisely nowhere in the event of a prosecution at the relevant time. You can keep staff happy without arranging a social event after hours. Frankly, at that time most staff were just pleased to have a job.
