To think this might be the worst packed lunch ever?

I told DS he had pasta salad for lunch. This evening he asked why we’d given him “funny mashed potato” instead.

Turns out the pasta salad was still in the fridge and he’d been eating a tub full of fat I’d saved for the birds ShockBlush

Has anyone sent their child to school with anything worse or our we officially the worst parents on Mumsnet?

@Maddiemoosmum0203

This thread is so funny my DD once took the square Tim foiled packet from the fridge thinking it was bee sandwich but it was Infact raw sausages she cried and the school gave her a hot dinner

Properly made me laugh!!!! Brilliant!!

FeloniusGru · 15/01/2022 19:29

I only have myself to blame as I am an adult and should make my own lunch, however DH usually does it for me.
2 of his best offerings were the time I opened my lunchbox to reveal just a tub of mouldy strawberries and the time I was expecting some lovely Moroccan chicken soup in my food flask and opened it to find just a flask of hot water. I spent those afternoons very hungry and grumpy but my colleagues thought it was hilarious Grin

My daughters school have free school dinners for all children up to age 7, so if I ever don’t have time to make a packed lunch in the morning, I don’t feel guilty because she will be fed…
One morning I went to work particularly early so unknown to me, my enterprising 5 year old daughter made herself a packed lunch whilst daddy slept in…
Daddy thought nothing of her taking a packed lunch to school and happily dropped her off. At dinner time as she was recounting her day she gleefully told me what she had done - packed a load of raw veggies/crackers and who knows what! (we don’t have packeted lunchbox items, so slim pickings!)

@KloppsTeeth

Quick! Get him to have some string for dessert and he’ll be producing his own artisan candles out his rear end very soon Grin
I’m crying with laughter 😂😂😂

I felt like a bad Mum the time my DD opened her lunch box to find a thawed out Mini Milk ice lolly. I had mistakenly grabbed it instead of a Frube yogurt tube which I keep frozen to keep cool longer and double up as an ice pack in lunch box.

I once sent dd to school with a slim fast and an apple. The school gave her a cooked dinner. On the plus side, I really enjoyed my ham sandwiches! 😃

When my daughter was going through an exceptionally fussy phase, and I'd lost all of my fight, I got a call from the school. One of the other kids had accused my daughter of stealing and eating her sandwich. I burst out laughing when they told me it was avocado, parma ham and cherry tomatoes- We were on month two of crisp sandwiches at that point. The stolen sandwich was found in the other child's car where it had been dropped on the way in. Grin

I really shouldn't have started reading this thread whilst at work.....funniest thread I've read for ages Grin

My ds friend once opened his lunch box to find his dad's roll up cigarettes that he had prepared for the day in with his sandwiches. This Dad had form for not JUST smoking tobacco so it may well have been one of his 5 a day!

I once sent my dd to school with a tub of cold baked beans instead of her tub of strawberries.
I’ve never put them in the same type of tub since! 🤦🏼‍♀️

RockinHorseShit · 15/01/2022 21:04

😂😂😂😂

If it makes you feel slightly better, I once put a red onion in smaller DDs packed lunch instead of an apple. She tried to eat it too Blush

My DS absolutely hates salad and tuna - he would have probably preferred the fat 🤣

I used to work at a primary school so saw some interesting packed lunches. One child had a large, square lunch box. Mum had found a pack of four doughnuts the exact same size as the lunch box, put the pack in the lunchbox and the four doughnuts were going to be his lunch that day. He got a school dinner that day and we had to explain to her why it wasn't an appropriate lunch.
At least your DS's lunch was a mistake. This mother who sent her son to school with doughnuts for lunch did it on purpose.

I added the link a few posts back but if you go into classics it's towards the top of the list :)

For those who missed it:
He has eaten a fat ball http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/2017083-He-has-eaten-a-fat-ball
'Old pecker head' etc, etc....
How can this be seven years ago? I was convinced it was five or less.... Grin

Zatapec · 19/01/2022 08:05

I once sent my son to school with a bottle (looked like water) but was full of gin! I asked him if he drank any, he said yes he was thirsty!! 🙄🥺

LonglegsMumtheBlacksmith · 19/01/2022 08:14

@AttackCat

He removed the label because he thought it would be embarrassing to send DS to school with pasta salad labelled “Fat for Birds” Hmm
This is hilarious! How embarrassing for DS to be eating fat for birds from a tub labelled as "fat for birds" 😂
lastqueenofscotland · 19/01/2022 08:19

A friend once grated some very cold lard on pasta. And thought it just it was just a bit weird as it was very cheap cheese 😂
