To think this might be the worst packed lunch ever?

I told DS he had pasta salad for lunch. This evening he asked why we’d given him “funny mashed potato” instead.

Turns out the pasta salad was still in the fridge and he’d been eating a tub full of fat I’d saved for the birds ShockBlush

Has anyone sent their child to school with anything worse or our we officially the worst parents on Mumsnet?

That's funny though ! I was expecting to see you'd given your child jam sandwiches on white bread and a chocolate bar !!

BlowDryRat · 14/01/2022 20:27

Ugh, yes, you win! I'd be interested to know how much he ate.

ArbleMarchTFruitbat · 14/01/2022 20:27

@Brainwashed

We sent our son to school with a tub of margarine once
For some reason that made me laugh out loud.
Beamur · 14/01/2022 20:29

You win!
What if he's eaten it up... would that make it a successful lunch? Yum.

AttackCat · 14/01/2022 20:30

DH is to blame - he put the pasta in a tub yesterday night and pulled out what he thought was the same tub from the fridge this morning.

Now the thing was this tub was clearly labelled “Fat For Birds” - DH didn’t think to check that it was exactly what it said it was.

He removed the label because he thought it would be embarrassing to send DS to school with pasta salad labelled “Fat for Birds” Hmm

I once got sent to school with the Tupperware full of sweetcorn rather than the one with my sandwich. I was at primary and didn't tell anyone just went hungry Blush I'm 45 now and only recently told my mum.

Beamur · 14/01/2022 20:36

😂

silverbubbles · 14/01/2022 20:41

This reminds me of years ago when a school friends granddad ate the dog food out of the fridge thinking it was his lunch...

AudTheDeepAndCrispAndEven · 14/01/2022 20:41

DS2 once took tub of cold rice pudding in instead of the tub of grapes I'd put in the fridge the night before for snack time. He ate it with his fingers. Teachers must have been bemused at that one.

5foot5 · 14/01/2022 20:42

You do know this will be one of those things your DS will remind you of for ever!

Not quite a packed lunch story but my sister once took her young DC to a cafe. She was having a salad but one of the DC only wanted ice cream. They were all playing up a bit and she was getting stressed so when DC complained his ice cream tasted funny she insisted he ate up and stop whinging. Eventually she realised he was eating the dish of salad cream intended to go with her salad Shock

MollyQueenOfSocks · 14/01/2022 20:43

Hahaha this reminds me of the thread where the DH ate the fat balls the OP had made for the birds and put in the fridge Grin

I hope your poor DS wasn't too hungry OP!

Jsgdud · 14/01/2022 20:43

My sister went to swimming club after school one day when she was young and picked up a carrier bag she presumed was her swimming stuff by the back door. When she got to the pool she realised it was a bag of potatoes 😄

truthwarrior17 · 14/01/2022 20:43

hahahahaha! Thanks op,I really needed a laugh today Grin

Buytoomuchonebay · 14/01/2022 20:44

Years ago my dd loved cornish pasties so I'd buy in bulk, freeze them then take them out for lunches
This worked well for months until I packed her one that looked fine, until she picked it up
The bottom was green with Mould!
They gave her a cooked lunch and she's not eaten one since

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2022 20:46

The fat ball thread is the funniest thread ever. This one is coming close!

magicstars · 14/01/2022 20:46

Thank you OP, this has made me LOL!! Your DS will have a brilliant memory of this in years to come.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 14/01/2022 20:46

Cheep lunch.

Grin
Imabitbusyatthemoment · 14/01/2022 20:47

🤣 That’s hilarious!

And a fabulous reminder of the wonderful fat balls thread. I can still hear the incredulity in the OPs voice ‘he ate the fat balls!

Rodders92 · 14/01/2022 20:48

My son used to have 2 different lunchboxes and I managed to send him in with the day before’s lunchbox containing an apple core and a sandwich crust

Olliphant · 14/01/2022 20:48

@Jsgdud haha that's so funny..

gothsnotmoths · 14/01/2022 20:50

When I was at school, someone I know opened the tinfoil expecting to find a sandwich and it turned out to be a block of cheese Grin

Tangletester · 14/01/2022 20:50

Yep, you win. That is the worst packed lunch I have ever heard of GrinGrin. How much did he eat??

houselikeashed · 14/01/2022 20:52

I once set DD to school with raw bacon, thinking it was a slice of parma ham Confused

CaptainNelson · 14/01/2022 20:52

GrinGrinGrin That's the best I've read on MN in ages! Especially the update!!! Thanks OP!
