To think this might be the worst packed lunch ever?

I told DS he had pasta salad for lunch. This evening he asked why we’d given him “funny mashed potato” instead.

Turns out the pasta salad was still in the fridge and he’d been eating a tub full of fat I’d saved for the birds ShockBlush

Has anyone sent their child to school with anything worse or our we officially the worst parents on Mumsnet?

@naughty40me

I used to work as a Lunchtime Supervisor.

One little boy said to me with the most bewildered look on his face...

"Miss, there's no ham in this sandwich!"

His little face, he was perplexed opening the bread and butter again and again. Lol.

I went to the kitchen and asked the cook for something.

He ended up with some cheese to put in it.

He came to tell me the next day that his mummy felt really silly.

So funny.

This has made me giggle, no idea why it's so funny tho!

I once got a call from school to say DS had his lunch box but it was empty. Turns out he's taken the spare one rather than the one from the fridge I had lovingly filled.

In no way does that compare to a tub of fat, that is truly amazing!

Barrawarra · 14/01/2022 22:19

@AttackCat

DH is to blame - he put the pasta in a tub yesterday night and pulled out what he thought was the same tub from the fridge this morning.

Now the thing was this tub was clearly labelled “Fat For Birds” - DH didn’t think to check that it was exactly what it said it was.

Aww. I love how you weren’t instantly slagging DH off, if this were us my OP would make perfectly plain it was ALL HIS FAULT. You are nice and I may have a problem Blush

Fat ball thread as everyone said

I've been here too long

AttackCat · 14/01/2022 22:31

I’m glad this has tickled so many people!

I had an initial moment of panic as we’ve not had mashed potato in ages and I feared he’d consumed some months-old toxic leftovers.

Once I realised it was ‘just’ fat from a roast I laughed so hard my 4 year old thought I was ill and made me sit down and have a glass of wine.

@AttackCat I like the sound of your 4 year old 😂😂

AttackCat · 14/01/2022 22:32

Love all the other disaster ours lunches too - I think eating rice pudding with fingers is my favourite!

I felt bad coz I sent dd in with raisin flakes (which she hates ) instead of yoghurt flakes (which she loves) for a snack yesterday - now I feel a lot better thanks OP.

Funny/sad story - when my Dad had dementia, bless his heart, I found him eating a bowl of bird seed, grabbed it from him and said 'Dad you're eating Swoop', he looked at me bemused and said 'give me back my muesli'. - so he maybe gets prize for worst breakfast Grin
I think your DS wins the packed lunch OP Grin

Aw xxx
WorraLiberty · 14/01/2022 22:47

@AttackCat

I’ve not checked to see how much he’s eaten yet - he’s a fussy eater who often comes home with one bite taken from a sandwich, so I don’t think he saw anything particularly unusual about the whole incident. Just another lunch he wasn’t keen on!
Surely you'd want to check straight away how much he's eaten?

How old is he btw?

Lovelydovey · 14/01/2022 22:48

I sent a flask of hot water once and left the meal in the microwave! Got a phone call from school and they gave him a school dinner.

springbaker · 14/01/2022 22:56

Can we have a picture of what remains in the lunch box, this is so funny

MissFranKubelik · 14/01/2022 22:57

I sent my daughter with a box of cheese. (It was in the same shape box as her sandwiches).

Before I had a car we used to the weekly shop as a family, carrying our rucksacks. Youngest (he was 6 at the time) went to school and thankfully I also worked at the school as I happened upon him just about to open a packet of sage and onion stuffing. He'd opened the box and took out the packet it was in, not even looking at what it was. 🤦‍♀️

It had obviously been left in his bag from when we went shopping and he'd decided it was part of his lunch. Mmmm crunchy. Grin

thaegumathteth · 14/01/2022 23:05

Well I can sort of beat it. Maybe?

Ds when he was about 6 took in his packed lunch as usual - chicken sandwich, crisps, grapes. Same every day. When he came out of school he said 'oh when I was eating my lunch today I had my crisps and then I wondered why you'd given me a weird sandwich so I didn't eat it and then I was going to have the grapes but they were slimy'

Turned out he had somehow found the packed lunch he'd lost about 4 weeks earlier and was going to eat that. 4 week old chicken 🤢 I was very glad he hadn't.

The other packed lunch box never did show up with his actual packed lunch in .... yet.

Stillfunny · 14/01/2022 23:07

I was at a friend's house on a sunny summer day. Gave my 2 year DD what I thought was Ribena which I diluted with water . She reluctantly drank it and I then realised that I had actually used Red Wine Vinegar . Poor child .
(She is 25 now , so I guess no longer term effects., )

MadeOfStarStuff · 14/01/2022 23:21

I once took a block of feta cheese in my packed lunch instead of my sandwich thins (both were the same size and wrapped in foil in my fridge). Unfortunately it was to an event where I couldn’t go and buy any other food. The people I was with found it hilarious as I sadly nibbled my cheese.

HelloFrostyMorning · 14/01/2022 23:25

Next time throw a few mealworms in it. Very nutritious! Yum! Grin

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/01/2022 23:29

Oh gosh. This is funny but also makes me feel a bit sick! Were there any other elements to the lunch or just the fat?

Maybe there wasn’t actually much difference!

cariaaad · 14/01/2022 23:40

My mum packed a picnic in an tupperware box to take to an outdoor music event. When they got there they opened it to find my first aid kit from guides, triangular bandage and all! They must have been packed in similar boxes and she happened to pick up the wrong one.
