How do you get out of the bath?

Aibu to ask how you get out of the bath (if you are healthy with no disabilities)?

I’m not a weird bath perv. I let the water run out yesterday and couldn’t get out! I had to re-fill the bath. I can only get out by sitting sideways, getting onto my knees and climbing out from there.

I need to know if that’s normal or if it’s because I’m enormous at the moment. I can’t remember my slimmer days. They weren’t even that long ago!

Thank you. Sorry for odd aibu.

I just stand up and get out.

We don't have a radiator in the bathroom though, so I've been known to refill with hot water, while I'm putting off getting out during Winter Grin

Chasingsquirrels · 14/01/2022 19:56

I just pull the plug and stand up - might hold a bath handle for a bit of leverage.
I'd hate sitting there with the water draining away, it would be cold.

Why couldn't you do your sideways thing when the bath had emptied without refilling it?

HelloDulling · 14/01/2022 19:57

Push up to standing using my hands on the sides, then step out.

CounsellorTroi · 14/01/2022 19:57

I have dodgy knees since a bout of inflammatory arthritis three or four years ago. Can’t bend my knees sufficiently to lower myself into the bath so have to turn sideways to sit down. Likewise getting out. I have a p shaped bath so I get into the wider part, turn round, get on knees and stand up and get out.

I don't think I ever have a bath where I don't have a substantial hot water top up at least once, usually twice and sometimes three or four!
flossletsfloss · 14/01/2022 20:00

I just stand up and get out.

Fallible · 14/01/2022 20:01

I just put my hands on the sides and stand straight up I think. I've never really thought about it until now! I definitely don't turn on my side.

44PumpLane · 14/01/2022 20:02

I really dislike baths so very rarely have them but when I do I just sit up and then stand up and get out. I'm quite fat at the minute and have a standard bath which weirdly doesn't have handles but it's fine.

I do like to sit in my shower though, and managed to get stuck while pregnant one time Grin I was too large to get up or to get onto my knees so had to scoot out the shower on my bum in order to be able to stand up!! One of my finest hours!!

PinkSyCo · 14/01/2022 20:03

Hold onto the sides and push myself up. Don’t unplug until I’m stood up.

ArbleMarchTFruitbat · 14/01/2022 20:04

I get into a crouching position to pull the plug out and stand from there.

BestIsWest · 14/01/2022 20:05

I also have dodgy knees which don’t bend enough to let me stand up. I hoik one leg over the side of the bath and use my arms to push myself up and out.

Ragwort · 14/01/2022 20:07

I've realised it's getting a lot harder now that I have put so much weight on Blush ... I used to love a bath every night but now I am tending to shower ! I fell the other day, climbing out of the bath, horrendous bruises but more so was the embarrassment about thinking if I couldn't get myself out and someone had to haul me out Shock.

BurntO · 14/01/2022 20:09

My bathroom had a massive hand rail when we moved in so I’ve used that for years. We’ve recently pulled it out and I either turn onto my front and get up or just stand up but I am overweight so the latter isn’t easy. It’s a weight thing.

gogohm · 14/01/2022 20:10

I push up on the sides but to be honest I avoid baths because I find it hard stepping out. I have a walk in shower.

KewMummy87 · 14/01/2022 20:12

Oh right. Bloody hell. It was physically impossible for me to stand up in an empty bath and get up. It was also physically impossible to turn on my side in an empty bath. I think I usually rely on the buoyancy of the water. Crap.

I have a fused ankle and from that now a wonky knee and I cannot do squats or sit on the floor and stand up without great difficulty.I have to heave myself with my upper body or roll over while the bath is still full.Im only 56 and still in ok shape so this has really freaked me out about getting old.I do love a hot bath though but know that somewhere along the way I will not be able to get out of the bath.Sad.

KewMummy87 · 14/01/2022 20:13

So “ability to get out of the bath without rolling about like a hippo” needs to go on my list of goals. Bloody hell.

I have no physical problems and am (very) early 40’s. But apparently also very fat and unfit.

I just stand up and step out.

isthismylifenow · 14/01/2022 20:15

I have push plug, so as I'm leaning forward to crouch position, I push the plug and then half stand, step one foot on the side, dry it. And then then dry foot onto mat, then other foot and dry it. So I get out in stages. I've never thought about it before. I do tend to stay in crouched position due to low blood pressure. I get dizzy if a get out too quick.

Notimeforaname · 14/01/2022 20:15

But I havn't had a bath in about 3 years Sad 😭

KewMummy87 · 14/01/2022 20:16

I’m sure I can remember just standing up. It’s really quite shocking how I now can’t.

CrowFriend · 14/01/2022 20:16

If the bath is empty or water level very low it is much harder. So get out whilst there is still plenty of water in the bath!

KewMummy87 · 14/01/2022 20:17

So (sorry to be boring), people put their hands either side on the bath, push and stand up? What the heck else can’t I do that I used to be able to do?! (Handstands but not since I was 10!)

isthismylifenow · 14/01/2022 20:17

Why do you let the water out first though?
