How do you get out of the bath?

Aibu to ask how you get out of the bath (if you are healthy with no disabilities)?

I’m not a weird bath perv. I let the water run out yesterday and couldn’t get out! I had to re-fill the bath. I can only get out by sitting sideways, getting onto my knees and climbing out from there.

I need to know if that’s normal or if it’s because I’m enormous at the moment. I can’t remember my slimmer days. They weren’t even that long ago!

Thank you. Sorry for odd aibu.

I push up using the sides, and then get out with one hand always on the side.

Three points to the rock

@eat 9!!! NINE!!!!!

I stopped having a bath for this reason.

@EatYourVegetables

There’s a very similar test of fitness - can you go from standing upright to sitting on the floor, and back to standing upright, without using your hands for support on the floor or on your legs, and without using your knees. Every time your knee or hand touches the floor and every time your hand touches your leg you lose a point. The lower your score, the fitter you are.

I’m 40 and normal weight (towards to top of the normal range). My score used to be 0 when I was a bit lighter, is now 1, and was much higher when I was heavily pregnant. I think it really does depend on weight, a lot.

I couldn't do this test when I was slim and fit! When you sit cross legged?

Now I'm four stone overweight and debating getting in the bath because I've never clocked how do I that.

KewMummy87 · 14/01/2022 20:46

This is all madness! How the heck has this happened to me?!? I need to change. Starting right now.

I have to get on my knees too @KewMummy87. I can never remember getting out any other way.

hauxwell · 14/01/2022 20:48

I'm 45, lazy and dead fat but I can just put my hands on either side of the bath and stand straight up.

EmmaH2022 · 14/01/2022 20:51

Okay, I just got in and out of the tub. I turned over on to my knees as well. 😳

OP I was freaked out the other day because after my weight gain, I struggled to keep up walking a very short distance with my sister. I used to think she walked really slowly. This is another thing. Eek.

I think it's more to do with joint flexibility. I can do this easily and I'm not very fit at all (I just tested it when I went to sit on the floor by the back door to smoke a cigarette, to give you an idea of my fitness levels). I have extremely flexible joints, though. I'm a healthy weight at the moment but when I was four stone overweight, I was still able to put my big toe in my mouth (drunken party trick strictly for close friends).
Rubyflint · 14/01/2022 20:53

I swim to the tap end, climb up the plug chain and carefully step over the taps to the edge. Then leap off onto the floor.

Lucinda7 · 14/01/2022 20:54

I'm 69 and fat with dodgy knees. I have to get over onto my knees as well OP. I do like a bath so I carry on with it. I always let the water out first so may stop doing that.

Jeez. I used to be able to do it from cross legged but I can't now. I can do a sort of movement where I put my feet either side of my hips and rest my chest on my knees, it's that allowed?

I too have to kneel and stand. I have zero upper body strength!

KewMummy87 · 14/01/2022 21:00

@CurtainTroubles no shit Sherlock. (Not meant unkindly)

From the floor I roll knot my knees and push up. But normally I use furniture etc to help.

OP you may want to consider a bath board.

KewMummy87 · 14/01/2022 21:02

@BlankTimes I think I may need to consider eating less…

I remember I really struggled to get out of the bath at 9 month pregnant. I didn't put on that much weight, it was the weight distribution that made the task almost impossible. It was like my body formed a "seal" against the narrow sides of the bath, so the suction prevented me to get up! (unless, like you, I rolled on my side)

When not pregnant, I can just sit up then stand up. Just to say, no one is that far away from getting stuck in the bath, in term of weight gain.

I have to do that, as I have a knee replacement, and don't have the strength to get straight up.
Kshhuxnxk · 14/01/2022 21:07

It's the suction OP..Try getting out with water still in and you'll find a big difference

RB68 · 14/01/2022 21:12

we have a double bath and it is deep, I have a back injury and froxen shoulder and its a bit of a mare but def easier with water in as it takes some of my weight - I push up with arms on side and pull one leg toward me putting weight through it and then bringing the other one up then stand. When my back was really bad I did the turn over onto all 4s and stand from there

educatingrati · 14/01/2022 21:12

When I was heavily pregnant with DS, and made a blue whale look small, I had to roll onto my front and go from kneeling to standing. Once Ds was born it was back to hands on the sides and push up to standing. Then I fractured my wrist and shoulder (2 years ago) and so for the last two years it's been back to rolling onto knees and then out! Our bath is very, very narrow and very deep, more like a drinking trough than a bath really....at least that's my excuse for the wholly ungraceful ascent from bathing to standingBlush

Spectre8 · 14/01/2022 21:13

In movies you always see them getting out with water still in it and they always look graceful doing it...so do what they do in movies Grin

ufucoffee · 14/01/2022 21:13

We have a very deep bath. I cannot push myself out by putting my hands up on the sides. This wasn't a problem in our previous bath which was a more usual depth. I have to get on to my knees then stand up. It's very awkward. Im no spring chicken so can only see it getting more difficult as the years go on. I totally understand OP.

StarsAreWishes · 14/01/2022 21:14

I was thinking I quite fancied having a bath this evening, and now I am too scared too, because I can’t remember how I normally get out, and I don’t want to get stuck through overthinking it Grin
