Is this a dogs name ?

My son was born and we have named him "Frank" , I don't expect all the people to like it but I felt quite sad when few of the mums on mums group where I belong, were commenting about their dogs name and they were laughing and saying that Frank is a dogs name knowing very well that this is my son's name.
The comments weren't directed to me (they both have had conversation between each other but I found it a bit rude...
Is this really a Dogs name ?
Have I made a mistake ?

I'm sure there are dogs called Frank but that doesn't make it a dogs' name. I know so many dogs called Max, Lucy, Poppy etc. but that doesn't make those dogs' names either.

There are lots of dogs called Frank. Lots of dogs have human names, doesn't make the names any less of a human name

They are rude. I know one man (60s) called Frank, and two dogs. However I know way more dogs called Alfie and Archie, which are very popular baby names.

I’ve never met a dog called Frank. And even if I had I’d just laugh at the dog with a human name.

Frank is cute for a baby. Buy the kid a flat cap!

One of my sons is named after my Aunties dog. Lots of kid names and dogs names are interchangeable

Frank is a nice boy's name. Short for Francis. Frank Iero isn't old (ex My Chemical Romance). Those school mum's were rude. And stupid.

Frank is a perfectly good human name.

My ds has the same name as a dsis dog once had, couldn't care less. It is still a human name and a nice one.

Loads of pets have "people" names, I really would take no notice.

I've had pets called (in no particular order) xena, bella, daisy and sarah. Friend has a pet called bruce.

No, it’s a normal name. Lots of dogs near me called Ruby and also lots of little kids. Sounds like they were being quite rude to do that while aware it’s your son’s name.

I had a lovely uncle called Frank (short for Francis). It's a great name. I know dogs called Patrick, Dave, Molly, Peter etc. Stolen from humansGrinGrin Those mums don't sound very nice at all.

It's not a name I like at all, but I've only ever heard it on people, not dogs.

That's ridiculous: Frank can be a dog's name, but isn't categorically 'a dog's name'.

We know a couple who called their DS Rex, but even that isn't at all exclusively for dogs.

Fido, Butch or Towser might be pushing it a bit for a human baby, mind.... Grin

I have a dog called Frank, named after Frank Zappa.
It is a perfectly wonderful human and baby name and I would t even bay an eyelash at a baby named Frank or Frankie because I know several, from baby to 7+ years old.

It’s not a dogs name, it’s a human name that people have adopted to name their pets.

Of course it's not a dog's name! A woman I work with has just had new grandson arrive, and while his name is actually Franklin he is known as Frank. I had a great-uncle Frank, pretty sure he wasn't a dog. I have a cat called Peter - does this mean it can't be used for a person? Ignore the rude ignorant mums OP, and enjoy your little boy.

All my children have names that are popular as pet names . In fact one is named after a dog I met !!!! Ignore rude people frank is a great little boys name

I have a cat called Peter

Yay! I had a childhood cat called Peter, and he was my favourite cat EVER! He was a black and white long haired, the most beautiful feline you have ever seen, but unfortunately he was also very very stupid!
He used to sit and stare out the window into the pitch darkness for hours. We always wondered what he was looking at, then we realised it was his reflection 😂
