Is this a dogs name ?

LAURAMINIMAQ88 · 08/01/2022 01:17

My son was born and we have named him "Frank" , I don't expect all the people to like it but I felt quite sad when few of the mums on mums group where I belong, were commenting about their dogs name and they were laughing and saying that Frank is a dogs name knowing very well that this is my son's name.
The comments weren't directed to me (they both have had conversation between each other but I found it a bit rude...
Is this really a Dogs name ?
Have I made a mistake ?

Oh, and I meant to add that I've known two dogs, and one parrot with my own name. Grin
(Real name, not Nigella.)

I had a wonderful Grandad called Frank.. I would have called my own DS Frank except my cousin got there first.

I have two DS (lets call them John and Jim)..Met someone on the beach with 2 dogs called John and Jim!
And my DDs name is a very popular Collie name.

Congratulations on the birth of Baby Frank..

piggie88 · 08/01/2022 09:25

I'm due next week and if it's a boy I want to call him Frank!

Never met a dog called Frank.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 08/01/2022 09:27

Two of my colleagues (in their 30s-early 40s) are Franks. Never met a dog called Frank, and I am a dog owner so know lots of dogs

WeDontTalkAboutBruno · 08/01/2022 09:28

Dd has a sausage dog called frank. frank furter.
It’s a lovely name for both people and pets.

LadyCatStark · 08/01/2022 09:28

I mean it is a very popular name for dogs, but it’s not a dog name. Most dogs have human names nowadays. Mine is called Billy but that doesn’t mean that no one I know could ever call their child Billy!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 08/01/2022 09:29

Frank is a human name.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 08/01/2022 09:30

@OGenkiDesuKa

I have a dog name. I’ve only ever met dogs with my name, no other humans.
Wuffles?
Pascha · 08/01/2022 09:31

I know two children called Frank. One is 12 and the other is 10. Totally unrelated to each other.

I think it's a cool name.

Rubyupbeat · 08/01/2022 09:32

I love the name 'Frank' congratulations.
My friend has 2 rescues called John and Adam, no such thing as a dogs name, those women sound like bitches themselves!

PinkSyCo · 08/01/2022 09:36

It’s very fashionable to give dogs a human name now, but it doesn’t take away the fact that Frank is actually a human name. Ignore them.

NoWigNoWit · 08/01/2022 09:39

I have a dog called Frank!

We chose the name after my uncle Frank, who was the best human being I’ve ever known Smile

VestaTilley · 08/01/2022 09:39

It’s not a dogs name, it’s short for Francis. It’s a great name!

Those other Mum’s sound horrible - I wouldn’t mix with them anymore if I were you!

NoWigNoWit · 08/01/2022 09:41

@VestaTilley We call him Francis if he’s been particularly mischievous! 🤣

Rotherweird · 08/01/2022 09:44

Frank is a cool name. Your “friends” are rude and insensitive.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 08/01/2022 09:44

Frank was my granddad - he was absolutely lovely Smile

My dog is Archie - I don't think it matters that some dogs have human names.

Porcupineintherough · 08/01/2022 09:46

Some names are found more commonly on pets than children apparently. My son has one of them, a friend's son has another. Theyve both survived and not suffered because they share their name with golden retrievers, meerkats etc

Nc123 · 08/01/2022 09:50

I wouldn’t choose Frank but it’s certainly no more a dog’s name than Luna or Alfie.

I’m sure your son will suit his name. Ignore the rude people - after giving birth to DS3 we were on a ward with a baby named Frank and he was gorgeous.

PatriotCanes · 08/01/2022 09:51

I know a couple of child Franks- it's a name to grow into, if you see what I mean. Baby Stanley, Baby Frank, Baby Vincent - it's a bit tough for a baby to carry off but once they hit toddler age it seems to click perfectly.

Cornettoninja · 08/01/2022 09:51

Your friends are ridiculous, don’t give them that power to make you second guess yourself. Frank was on my shortlist before we knew dd was a dd! It’s a great name - it’s not like you called him Rover or Bouncer!

I’d only ever known dogs named Toby until recently and it’s popped up a few times in my wider circle. Another great name on either species imho.

CounsellorTroi · 08/01/2022 10:02

Frank/Francis is lovely.

Elodeastar · 08/01/2022 10:04

Frank is a perfectly normal name for a person, absolutely!
That said, I have noticed a trend recently for folk to call their dogs more 'human' names instead of traditional dog names, so it's not unreasonable some folk have heard of the odd dog called Frank. I still think it's a dog with a human name, not a human with a dog name though! Smile

Buytoomuchonebay · 08/01/2022 10:26

I have 3 brothers
Last two are twins-ones named after a sheepdog and the other a cat
The animals where around long before they where and it’s done them no harm at all
Ignore the rude mums-how bloody rude

KittenKong · 08/01/2022 10:29

We once had a dog (it was a dog and he had a girls name) with a people name, which ended up being my sisters girlfriends name. So we had ‘Dog X’ and ‘People X’.

FindingMeno · 08/01/2022 10:31

It's a lovely name.
Ignore the stupid talk and steer clear of those women.
